I dont think its really fair for a drop-in center smaller than the average house to need such a gatekeeper of an automated phone directory. I have been receiving mail here for years and only recently had to start showing ID. They knew me when they didnt and dont know me now that they do. Makes me sad.

BFHP is an incredible organization. The staff is hardworking, thoughtful, caring, progressive, and well informed. They have a nearly impossible spread of tasks in front of them, and are continually pushing the envelope of what an organization should be able to offer those in need. They are ambitious, and I have been so impressed with their ability to connect with the local community to gain partners and support those in need. As we all know, all across our country the need is outweighing the funding by a large margin. BFHP is doing a commendable job trying to make an impact with as many folks in our local community as possible. If you want more, or if you want better- help fundraise! Donate! These people know how to make every dollar count.

A rare opportunity to directly feed needy people regularly with no prior experience and a foot in the door for those who really want to make a difference. A way for one to realize that a huge part of our community needs our help and that we are all the same people. It takes no time, no brains, not even one penny, just to spend a little time and show for these wonderful people and the rewards from getting to know them on a more personal level are great.

BF&H is running much more efficiently and is doing a good job at getting resources and housing for people. I have met several helpful staff who go the extra mile for their clients. Thank you for the much improved services for the community !

Ive been staying at their mens shelter and this place seems like the common non profit joke. The staff at the mens shelter are unintelligent and immediately give an attitude before looking to see what is going on. For example on my first day I was told to show up at 5 pm. When I got here there were two staff members who no idea who I was or that anyone was supposed to come as new arrival. There was a short man whos name I think is Cliff who yelled at me for walking into the building and there was a short white women who would ask me questions and cut me off before I got a chance to give her any information. Eventually they told me they had no clue I was coming because THEY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO ACCESS THE E-MAIL.A week later I came in from work at 2:30 a.m. and they told me it looks like I come and go when I want and that they dont think I have a job. I E-mailed one of the staff here my work schedule and somehow nobody knew I worked that night. Also, I checked in with the afternoon staff letting them know I work from 9-2pm.They care nothing about the people they house. The mens shelter looks like a county jail on the inside and serves as a place for wealthy white Christians to provide a variety of pork dishes, a little bit of Christianity, and a heap of Americana. This place is a jail simulation and Im worried Ive trapped myself in the industrial homeless complex.

Was hired for a position for housing navigator for Emeryville/Albany. Once hired, the position was nothing like the description I applied for. Management argued amongst each other and they were very disorganized and unprofessional; focused on my attire the whole time. I was not there even 3 weeks before HR let me know that I was not a good fit, and whats worst, my supervisor or her supervisor did not come into work that day to let me know in person. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemies if I had any. This is by far the worst place that I have ever worked for.

So far not one agency in Berkeley has done anything to help the homeless situation.I am a homeless mother with a five year old. We have been homeless since 2015. We have many issues including domestic violence and serious health issues. All of these issues keep us out of shelters. If there were any shelters available. There arent any.Aside from the shelter problem, the lack of even one real dollar going to homes from homeless is the real problem. If all of the money that is being wasted on data counts and researching or discussing homelessness; was instead spent on paying for a homeless persons rent, then all the homeless would be housed. As high as rents are in Berkeley these wasted budgets could still cover rent for all of us.For myself personally, I dont want freebies and my bills paid. I want my child and I to be home, safe from abuse, warm, secure and able to heal from our nightmares. If we had a home, we could get better faster. We wouldnt be so stressed that we couldnt function. I wouldnt have to fight rats from coming and biting my baby.So to HUD, EVERYONE HOME, BERKELEY, THE HOMELESS HUB, BFHP, ALAMEDA COUNTY SOCIAL SERVICES AND ALAMEDA COUNTY; Please stop wasting money and lying to everyone. Spend money on rents for us. Not on projects designed to fail. None of you have provided a single service to my child and I for 3 years. Not once.If my child dies of pneumonia out here... Or gets kidnapped by one of the many sex offenders not at the registered locations...Or forced to suffer more abuse because his father comes back...If my child has to continue living in a dirt strip, with no friends and no real happiness...Then all of you failed. I am fighting for all of our lives. Why arent you?

Berkeley Food and Housing1901 Fairview StreetBerkeley, CA 94703In attempting to resolve ongoing harrassment from Supervisory and other Navigators within BFHP. I have experienced the following acts of Personal/Psychological Harassment▪The spread of Malicious Rumors.▪Unjustified Ageism Criticizing▪Retailating Against for Reporting▪Comments and jokes about Age.▪Humiliate and Undermining StaffProblems with a Power-System based on Street Credibilty were behaviors I observed on an ongoing basis continued throughout my brief 6-mo period resulted in me unnecessary job-related stress so strenuous that I have been forced to file an Unlawful Termination Suit.In attempt to resolve these issues between employees and supervisory staff, I followed HR instructions and documented each instance of harrassment. Unfortunately Iwas the only staff HR accused of creating a hostile work environment and subsequently terminated in retaliation for bringing my complaints to HRs attention. I hope in posting this review, Alameda County of whom BFHP is contracted by will start dealing with BFHP Employee issue quickly and amicably.

Likely fine intent but poor performance in execution. Staff individuals seem hobbled by circumstance and/or management. At least one supervisor there can get WAY outa line. All of which is likely why the HUB contract was lost and will be awarded to BACS, instead.

Like all multi-system agencies they have what seems to be an overwhelming task in front of them. I really appreciate their efforts, yet almost 6-month experience has been lack of communication over and over again, i.e. ambiguity. We want you housed permanently but we send you to substandard housing: drugged out hoods, wiring open and exposed, closed in buildings with rancid smells with rents beyond my 2 - 3 times my income. Plus I get more income with a temp contractor and suddenly I do not qualify for rapid rehousing. My issue was PTSD now managed by anow agency under the umbrella of the HUB. I thank them for all the support and help getting me to this point of wellness. The next step standard permanent housing may have to be handled in my own. I have a long term job offer people ding background checks. Yeah!!!

Ive been living on the streets of west Berkeley in my RV for nearly two years now. Like many LGBT refugees I moved the bay area with my partner to escape the homophobic violence we faced daily in my home state.Recently both increasing police harassment and homophobia here on the streets has left us looking for a place to park. (Everytime I go to work, I have to worry about the BPD impounding my home)I called looking for information about a safe place to park my RV (as there are safe parking programs in many places in California), but I was told no such program existed and that the only traditional housing available was in Stockton and that I would not be able to bring either my partner or my cat with me. It sounded like a step backwards from my current situation, to be perfectly honest. There are easily nearly 200 people living in RVs in west Berkeley alone, so why hasnt the city of Berkeley done more to address this need? They should turn some city-owned lots into homeless RV and van parking, itd be a lot cheaper than breaking up families and renting units from greedy private developers miles away in Stockton. There used to be an RV park both in Berkeley and Albany, but they shut both of those down to build luxury developments that actually house even fewer people than the RV parks did, leaving many more RVers on the streets. My advice to those on the streets: avoid this place, its not about helping us, its about dehumanizing us and giving rich people in Berkeley peace of mind.
