Great people, we need more of this.

This place is a model for what I consider to be one of the most soulful and sustainable solutions for homelessness.It offers tiny homes for people who need gentle support to get back on their feet. People in this village are clean from drugs and alcohol and they go through a background check before admittance. Some are able to work and contribute monetary to the village. The model is that of self governance and there is a sense of vital community.There is a shower truck that costs minimum to create and operate, built from the heart and hands of Bellingham homeless advocate, Markis Dee.The whole model is extremely affordable to build and operate. There are amazing, passionate, kind volunteers who give their hearts and their time to help everyone around.This is a model that I support and want to see spreading because it is very effective for a certain group of people who are experiencing homelessness and it shows results.Approximately 40% of UV residents manage to move on to more permanent housing and some keep visiting the village as volunteers.It takes only about $1200/month to operate a 22 tiny homes village, serving residents who became a family and are contributing to the community around them through group clean ups and neighborhood watch.Housing first is a model that is known to work. Millions of dollars are invested in homeless solutions every year. I believe we should allocate money to solutions such as this that is proven to work.

This is a community of people that were living on the street due to unforeseen circumstances and are now safe in their own tiny home. I encourage people to visit and get to know the residents of Unity Village.
