We got a gas fireplace insert with masonry around it. Took the day off and they called in? Was quoted 10k got the bill for 12k. Older gentleman told us if we bought the tile (additional 20 tiles) the fireplace it would be $200 but he must have had some sort of medical emergency and the other man (Kyle) charged $500 for our tile that we bought that they put down? After the 12k. The day we were supposed to install the fireplace they didnt show up? (We took pto for this.) And apparently couldnt be bothered to call us to let us know that they werent showing up.. The actual work done was shoddy too. The stone steps that were done were very poorly done. Also. Covered the garage where they were cutting stone in dust. They whole garage just covered in white dust that was just left like that. Stopped by 3 times for a response (40 miles away) and they said they would respond or call back. Never responded. Been about a year and still no response...?

We visited Top Hat in Baraboo last fall where we were introduced to their closed gas fireplace inserts. They were very forthcoming about the length of time it would take to schedule the installation. The two young fellows that installed the unit were very polite and thorough. They definitely seemed to know their business. It took a day and a half to install just as we were told. The fireplace really warms our large living area and is very pleasant. Our old unit was nice to look but it did not warm with the efficiency this unit does. This is a very nice addition to our home.

Fireplace to a gas unit. Best decision Ive made EVER! Kimmer helped me select the unit that fit my needs. He was great to work with, low key, patient, and very knowledgeable. Drew and Devon installed the unit and fabricated the face frame, its beautiful. I have two other Jotul gas stoves and on occasion have had to call for questions. Gary has answered questions and dropped by on his way home to verify things are right. Rahne has been very helpful too! I cant say enough about the staff at Top Hat, you make my day!

My Avalon propane stove was “serviced” on 20 August. The unit was fully operational when the service was begun. I was told that two components needed to be replaced, and the stove was left non operational. I have on at least two occasions contacted your company with no return calls. I have no idea if the unit will ever operate again. I should also note the your charge for routine maintenance has been about $125 higher that local heating companies.

Colton performed an annual cleaning on our fireplace. He arrived early and did a thorough job cleaning everything. Also took the time to explain everything he did and would recommend for future maintenance.

Really poor customer service. We ordered a log rack that had a lead time of 2 weeks. After a month, we called to follow up and was told it wasn’t in yet and may be another week or two. After yet another month, I called to check status. I was told there was a box sitting in back my name on it. When I arrived to pick up the item, I discovered it had arrived a month prior — even before my follow up phone call! My name and phone number were clearly written on the box yet no one bothered to call to let me know the order had arrived. This was the first and last time for Top Hat. Disappointing service for a small local business.

Tyler and Jason did an awesome not just cleaning my chimney but also helping me to understand what work needed to be done on it. All the work they said needed to be down was right in line with what I had know about the building of the fireplace. They were both very polite. They cleaned inside and out and not a speck of ash in my house. Loved that they cleaned off the window!

Im a hvac tech myself but I dont do woodstoves and needed a woodstove installed by a licensed installer for my insurance to aproove. I explained im very fussy about how things look and was nervous about hiring another hvac company to do work that i would otherwise do myself. Ben and Quinton did a excellent job and even went the extra mile to make special fittings to make everything look nicer to meet my expectations. Im very satisfied and would recomend them to anyone. We had an issue with our furnace not working properly on a Saturday morning. I called the emergency/after-hours tech number and Chamuel, the tech on call, answered right away and said he could be out to us in about an hour. He serviced our furnace quickly and even went above and beyond to clean and check a few other key components of the furnace to assure me that after the fix, our 27 year old furnace was still running strong, giving me further peace of mind. I would highly recommend their services, especially if you find yourself in an emergency/after-hours situation.

Finally got a hold of another person, Kyle, who sent a quote of the items I needed and his price was over double what Dan had estimated it would be. Top Hat has been cleaning our wood stove chimney for a number of years. This year again another very nice job. The person, John, was here on time, very polite, and did a great job. Especially pleased with how clean he left the area around the wood stove.

Chamuel did a great job inspecting my heat pump and furnace. He answered all my questions and even arrived slightly ahead of the scheduled time.

Today ws the day for the annual check up on our furnace, filters changed and furnace cleaned and prepped for next winter. Chamuel just did a cleaning and inspection of our air conditioner and furnace and recommended that they be replaced as they are showing signs of age. They are 23 years old. He recommended the proper units needed he gave us a quote. He is a very good asset to Top Hat he is knowledgeable and very personable. He did a great job. We are going to get the new equipment installed by Top Hat.

We had a warranty call back on a new LP gas fire place that was not working properly. The Technician, Dave T., who has been with the company for 21 years, was excellent. He thoroughly cleaned the unit, checked settings and ran tests to determine that the problem was in the thermostat. He replaced the thermostat with a new one and everything now works like a charm. When Roy first came out to look at the project you could tell he had many years of experience. The installers, Dewey and his son Derrick did a fantastic job from start to finish. Called them out for servicing my fireplace/chimneys after purchasing a new home. They were unsure on my masonry fireplaces, but contacted their office for guidance on the intricacies of the. Called to check on the order 3 weeks later and no one knows about it and will call me back after looking into it, I call Tophat back the end of the next day and nothing! So I call AGAIN and still no one knows anything! Not one time did they return my call and explain anything, just “I don’t know!”....BAD customer service!

We got a nice pellet stove at a decent price, but I wish we would’ve gone with a different company. Once they have your money, they don’t care about your experience. The communication was terrible and the follow up was mostly done by us, having to check in. The hearth pad that the stove sits on was too small for our area due to a measuring error on their part, but since I signed the proposal that’s what we were stuck with. I received a change order proposal for $500 for them to come and put in the correct size hearth pad (which should have been installed in the first place). When I spoke to the store manager about our issue, he offered 50% off labor which still would have cost us about $350. Laughable attempt at making things right. We ended up exchanging the hearth pad and installing ourselves. I expect more from a company when you spend $4,000 with them. Go elsewhere!

The service we received from Top Hat was absolutely terrible. On June 13th, their associate, Kyle, came out to our house to take measurements and pictures of the fireplace in our living room. We wanted to reface the fireplace and were looking for ideas and pricing. Kyle was very nice and seemed excited and said he would get back to us with some ideas and an estimate.About 3 weeks went by and we never heard anything so I called and left a message for Kyle to see where things were at, and Kyle apologized and let me know how busy they were, but that he would put some things together right away and send them over. Once again I received nothing so I called Top Hat a week later and left a message with a receptionist who said they would have Kyle call me, which he never did. So on July 25th, I sent a message to the help email listed on their website explaining the situation and asked when I could expect to hear something back.The next day I received an email from Kyle saying he had one meeting in the morning but that otherwise his day would be spent getting us information and design ideas that he had worked on for our fireplace. Yet again, he did not follow through. A couple of weeks went by again and I called and talked to the manager, who apologized and said she would have Kyle call me back, which unsurprisingly never happened.Finally on August 23rd I received an email from Paul at Top Hat who said he had been given photos of our fireplace and wanted to share some of the unique options they had come up with. So we set up an appointment with Paul to go to the Top Hat store this morning. When we got to the store no one greeted us, and we waited for about 10 minutes before Paul finally came over and talked to us. He showed us a couple of fireplaces they had in their showroom before I stopped him and asked if he had some design ideas for our fireplace and some pricing. He responded that he did not but that maybe Kyle did and that Kyle would be back on Wednesday.Its unbelievable how no matter who we have spoken with at the store, there is no follow through and the service is terrible. I feel like we were practically begging them to be their customer, and they continued to simply ignore us. The only saving grace is that we didnt actually hire them to do any work because if the service we received was any indication, the work that was done would have been terrible.
