My biggest frustration with this car rental place is they NEVER answer the phone on location. I have called customer service and reservations in regards to questions I had about my upcoming reservation. Neither customer service or reservations could answer my question and let me know I needed to call the rental car location directly. I have now done that 5 times and every time it rings and rings and then finally rolls back over to customer service. Customer service wont transfer you directly to the reservation location unless it is an emergency. Long story short my questions were never answered and my reservation is 8 days away so I am cancelling and going with another company.

We rented a car from Alamo at the Portland airport, excited about our Maine vacation. Unfortunately, in less than a week, the car gave a “malfunction” error and was completely dead from that point on. I called Alamo around 4 pm and they said no problem. I was transferred to their emergency roadside assistance, powered by Urgently. The man I reached was rude and would only talk about what was on the check list in front of him. He was of no help, and actually hung up on me. I called Alamo again and was told that Urgently had to be the one to help me. This time I got someone that was nicer who offered to send someone to jumpstart the car - not what I needed but I thought okay we will try that. Urgently could not find anyone to help us as it was after 5:00 pm and recommended we call the local authorities out to help us. What??? That is not their job. So the next morning, I called Alamos corporate office and was again transferred to Urgently. They started working on it and after lunch had found someone that would bring us a new car as I had convinced them jumpstarting the current car would not correct the problem. They sent Morneau Towing (great guys!) to a dealership that had NO cars to rent. When I called Alamo again (after all it was their responsibility) I asked for a supervisor since the young girl was again going down a checklist and not helping me. Her supervisor explained that Urgently had to be the one to help me and they would reassign my case to another towing company. As this supervisor was also useless in helping to solve my problem, I asked to speak to his supervisor. He told me he did not have one - interesting, since even the CEO has someone to report to. Again, back to Urgently who once again wanted to come out and jumpstart the car. I was really getting frustrated by this time and told him I needed a replacement car today. After speaking to his supervisor, he said he would reassign my case (3rd time), but it would take 4-6 hours for someone to bring another car. I said fine and immediately called Jamie of Morneau Towing to tell her what was happening and give her the new case number. In less than four hours, Morneau Towing was here with a replacement pickup truck. The truck was decent but definitely not what we paid for, but at this point we just wanted a vehicle so we could restart our vacation. Apparently, when Jamie and Matt got to the dealership, they were told there were no cars to be had. Jamie wasnt having any of it. She told them she was not leaving without a vehicle for us. Good for her, at least she knows what customer service is about. She and Matt tried to jumpstart the car in order to load it on their truck, but it would not start and once again gave a malfunction error message. All in all, thanks to Matt and Jamie of Morneau Towing. we finally got a replacement vehicle more than 24 hours after our original contact with Alamo. Although Alamo gave us some compensation, that doesnt give us our vacation time back or erase the anxiety or frustration we went through. Alamo and Urgently need to learn what customer service is - they could learn a lot from Morneau Towing.

Customer service was great. Car was not cleaned well. In the change slot there was a small bottle of used hand sanitizer and a pill in a cellophane wrapper. My concern was having 2 young children in the vehicle and there might have been more debris left elsewhere. I did check the car and the only other spot was the cup holder in the back seat, where the kids were, were sticky and filled with crumbs. Other than that, I really enjoyed the drive. Excellent choice of vehicle replacement since they did not have a van for me that I originally reserved.

Always have great and positive experience with Alamo. I have rented out several of the vehicles including the 2020 Lincoln Navigator, 2020 BMW 330i, and their 2020 Cadillac Escalade. They never disappoint. Awesome customer service, friendly and helpful staff. I will continue to keep my business with Alamo. Highly recommended.

Was in Bangor Maine. Took two days to get a rental causing me to be late for a contract and having to drive all night. The first day I took an Uber to the airport and as I was walking thru the door they were calling to tell me there were no cars and the computer shouldn’t have let me book on. They said the next day they’d have one. A waste of $13 plus tip to the airport and back so over $30. The next morning I was smart enough to call before coming and they were over booked and someone had not returned a car. Finally, the third day I was able to get a car to drive out of Bangor. Had I known what was going to happen I would have taken a flight somewhere and driven from there. I got an apology but that was it. Not clear if I will use this company again.

I think this is the first time we rented from Alamo. We picked up our car in Bangor, Me. Experience was fine, no problems. We turned the car in at a Boston, ME location (not the airport). The address listed was 1 Congress St, Boston, MA. You can not find Alamo with this info! I called number listed. Of course it was not the direct line to this location. After calling several numbers and talking to numerous folks, we were finally directed. Anyone turning in this car by themselves could not have done this in Boston traffic. We will go with Enterprise in Boston from now on!

We asked for an economy car, but were delighted to be given a 019 Jeep Wrangler upgrade at no additional cost. This was especially appreciated as we had a long road trip in mind, over some hills, and were going to need a reliable vehicle. It served our purposes quite well. One question, though: As this Jeep had various options for 4-wheel and 2-wheel drive, we looked through the manual. The manufacturers manual does offer brief explanations, but since it can be detrimental to the car to use these inappropriately, we chose not to use them at all. A suggestion to Alamo: if you can create a simple guide to using the various options, you will help customers and perhaps save some wear and tear on the cars.

My wife and I rented a Dodge Charger from the Alamo at Bangor, ME airport. Front desk was friendly and efficient. After returning the car, I realized that I forgot my sunglasses. I had already boarded the plane so it was too late to go back. I called the rental counter and spoke with Sarah. She went out and found my sunglasses and shipped them to me. I dont normally write reviews but I received excellent customer service and felt that I needed to share. Thank you Sarah and Alamo for a great trip.

Check in was smooth after having made reservations online.I would have appreciated a more prominent indication that when the airport desk was closed that the car could be returned and the keys dropped off.I changed hotels in order to have a shuttle transport me back and forth to return the car a day early than I had planned.Lastly, I was not happy with Alamo charging an additional $9.99 per day for an additional driver. Other companies do not do that.

I had a very pleasant experience. My flight was arriving late at night and I was the last customer. In my booking, I specified my arrival information. The person in-charge was ready with all the paperwork and the check-in process took less than five minutes. He also upgraded my vehicle at no extra cost. The drop-off process was also as smooth.

We got sent to Bangor because if issue with the airlines cancellations . And a missed flight prior. We ended up getting to Bangor after enterprise closed because the airline was delayed and we had no way home which is 3 hours away. No one would rent to us with a credit card, we only had cash and debit. I think the mans name is alavao or similar I read his tag really quick . He helped us out with a rental to get home he was friendly nice and so helpful . We had been there for over two hours not knowing what we were going to do. This man was an angel. I cried good tears for the first time the past two day of trying to get home from Florida.

Friendly and courteous service both picking up and turning the car in. We had reserved a Cadillac and would have much preferred it over the (huge) Lincoln SUV we got, but the vehicle was good and reliable. It could have been cleaned up better on the inside when we picked it up, but that did not affect us badly. Just messy. All in all a good experience.

I arrived in Bangor, Maine on the morning of June 23rd, 2016, from St. Petersburg, Florida. I had my 4 year old granddaughter with me, and it had been a long morning traveling. I had done an on-line confirmation for my rental, as to speed up picking up my car, as it was very hectic for me, with luggage, and my granddaughter. When I arrived at the Alamo desk, I was greeted by Roxanne Carlson, who was very courteous, and helpful. I gave her my papers, and was told that there was a problem, that they had no vehicles available. I waited a short while, until they told me my vehicle was ready. Roxanne and the other lady working with her ( I cannot remember her name) were very apologetic, and helpful. I was also helped out to my car, and it was even brought to me curb side, which was a great help, with all the baggage and my granddaughter. Thank you ALAMO for making my vacation to Maine an enjoyable one. My vehicle was wonderful, and the stress that I thought I was going to have getting the rental, was a breeze. And, Roxanne deserves a raise!! She was amazing...

I searched under my American Legion discount and Alamo was the least expensive of the six major car rentals. In my case, they were $12 to $76 cheaper than the others. I pre-confirmed my rental and picking up the car was quick and easy. The full size Ford was a little small but a very nice vehicle with a sunroof and very easy on gas. One of the companies was an off airport site and was closed by the time we landed. It was just as easy to drop the car off and return the keys. Counter staff was very courteous. Very pleased!

Rented a small SUV in Bangor Maine and dropped off in Boston. everything was great except the return to the Alamo location in downtown Boston. With so many roads in Boston under construction, our GPS and we were totally confused and a 15 minute trip became an hour. This is not Alamos fault but recommend you pick up/return at the airport.

As noted by other reviewers, extra fees are tacked in addition to what you pay when you book thru Allegiant. We had reserved a compact car, they didnt have any when we got there so our only choices were a truck, a SUV or a minivan. We wanted a small car so we had to downgrade to a subcompact car, a Mitsubishi Mirage. No big deal but annoying. When we picked up the car it only had a half tank of gas which was not noted on the paperwork (I called them to document it). In addition, it had some minor cosmetic damage which was also not documented. No inspection was made of the car when we picked it up. The front tires were nearly bald while the back tires were fine. The instrument panel was fogged up and difficult to read. The car ran OK so the overall experience was OK. When we returned the car no one was there to do an inspection. In the future we will try to stick with Enterprise who we normally use on our trips.

Rented a car in Bangor Maine on September 4th to Sept 14th through Allegiant Airlines .Bad mistake ...Allegiant had a hidden fees in their booking that did not openly fully disclose that it did not include taxes on the car . These came up to over another $100.+ and I had to put on a credit card at the pick up booth .Booked a full size car which showed an Impala or similar .. Ended up with a Malibu. which looked like it was rode hard and put out wet ...Over 35,000 miles on it and lots of dents and scrapes. I have the photosI have used this rental company before but never experienced anything like this .While on my way over to New Brunswick Canada I always check through the instruments to see how a vehicle operates and this car showed an overinflated tire at 42 pounds .The next day that same tire showed only 25 pounds .Odvesily a slow leak that had been overinflated to keep the car functional .I added a can of tire sealer and again noticed all the dust caps wera in palce on the other e tires but not this one .Well the tire lasted until my back to Bangor on the 13th when it went completely flat within about 30 seconds and at nite .Thats when the fun really began... Called the Alamo desk and all they could say was to Call the 800 # as they could not do anything . After calling the 800 # it was even worse as the reception where I was at was very poor . After explaining my problem all the lady could do was to tell me to call back when I had better reception(Da) or call 911 .After trying to get the tire off for aprox 1/2 hour a moterist stopped to help me out .The jack was fine and the nuts came off on the rim ok BUT the rim would not come of the axel. After beating it and rejacking several times it finally broke loose and we replaced it with the donut .I gave the guy $50.00 just for helping me out...Well worth it .I reported this to the clerk at the desk in Bangor the next day upon droping off the carand he did give me a credit for the $50.Not a good experience at all.I missed dinner with my wife and ended up going to bed early with a soar backRecommendationsIf you are booking cars through third parties like Allegiant make sure the taxes are included .When somebody books a car . make sure they get that car or have a valid reason notMake sure your cars are well roadworthy and not been gerry rigged to get them on the road

Car wouldn’t start one evening and a engine power warning service immediately notification showed up. Called the emergency service number, it took 4 hours for someone to come out and was told couldn’t have a new car until the next day. They tried to send an Uber, didn’t work, tried to send a Lyft 3 times, had to call them 3 times to get a cab sent but then no one could do it. They brought the car to me about 20 hours after this all started. When returning the car l, I was charged $70 dollars for a jumpstart on a car I couldn’t use. I was told that I should have used my own roadside service so I wouldn’t have been charged… After not being able to use my rental car I was paying for an entire day, I was charged an extra $70.Edit: The issue has been resolved and the experience was vastly improved after speaking with customer service
