Hands down the place to go to rescue a pet. The facility is very clean and you can tell the staff cares a lot about the animals. I was very glad to see a large majority of the pets we looked at online had already been adopted. It seems the turn around for the animals is very quick. I highly recommend this facility but you can never go wrong with choosing to rescue. We were able to pick up our new fur child without any issues. The adoption fee and package we chose was only $75 total. They neutered him, gave him his recommended vaccines and chipped him. They gave us the medication he was currently using and provided instructions after he left. I will definitely get my next rescue from here.
My 6 month old rottweiler was taken and found across the other side of Baltimore. I go to Barcs to reclaim my purebred dog. When I arrive I identify that my dog is mine but am told I have to have him neutered without any explanation. They say the personnel upfront will explain but they dont. I am told to come back tomorrow to speak with animal control and when I return this person approaches me berated and disingenuous. None of my questions are answered and I am threatened by his words ofYour dog will leave neutered.I ask for supervisors for both Barcs personnel as well for the animal control staff but the staff rejected giving me answers or direction to why my $3,000 dog will be ruined. I was misled to believing my dog will be given away if I left so I paid for my dog to be given back to me. The sick individuals still ruined my dog by removing his testicles while I declined to have my dog desecrated. The Barcs staff as well as animal control were able to speak to my dogs vet whom they initially were hesitant of. The vet explained my 6th month dog is young but the staff are psychotic. They ruined my dog for whatever financial gain comes with neutering purebred dogs. I was never given reason to why or answers to get a hearing. The personnel lied and withheld information only to ruin my dog in spite. They lied to me for three days changing which staff I spoke to and never giving clarity. They blamed animal control and animal control blamed Barcs. This establishment needs to be shut down due to the lack of adequate staff and legitimate veterinary assistance. Any competent vet would recognize a pure bred rottweiler and know the high risks. Something will be done to recompensate for my puppy, my time, and the disrespect I shown while being patient with those said to be for the betterment of animals.
Best experience I have ever had. Friendly knowledgeable. Doesnt make you feel you are alone. They offer training for the life of your pet. I was so nervous they eased my fears. They not only walk the dogs regularly they have play time let all the dogs out together. I left Thursday told my daughter about my experience and she left yesterday with a dog of her own.( Bixby) mine is King. I only had to pay $10 application fee. Dogs over 5 free. Love this place. You will not be disappointed.
Its a nice thing that theyre doing having the event in Brooklyn at the 3rd St park.i had a good experience with the event,I took both of my dogs at different times and it was convenient and very stress free.my dogs bark at other dogs and people when they get to close, but when I take them to this event theyre more relaxed and dont have theyre guard up as they do when theyre indoors at the vets.i give them 5stars and whoever thought of the event a thumbs up ..
I am a big fan of rescuing animals especially when it comes to my rescue kitty Zoe!! Quarantine was so rough last April that I could not take it anymore and decided that I needed BARCS animal rescue shelter to step in... I continue to be impressed by the high level of Love attention and care that their team shows towards all of their rescue animals. My adorable little Zoe is the most perfect angel in the world! Thank you so much BARCS for saving two lives.
I don’t know where to start ... I am forever grateful for all the help love and support from Barcs .. I found myself in a unexpected situation where I had to abruptly separate from my pup which broke my heart .. I thought I would never see him again after dropping him off at Barcs, I was later contacted by staff member Tawnie asking if I wanted to place Gohan in their foster care program which I had no idea they had .. which for me was a blessing to know that I would be able to get my pup back ... long story short Barcs was amazing not only did they place Gohan in a safe healthy foster home, they kept me updated, they worked with me when I had to unexpectedly change the pickup date .. Gohan was microchipped neutered up to date on shots, house broken happy healthy pup I had dropped off to Barcs thank you so very much Kenny Tawnie Natalie Melanie Officer Howard and all the other Barcs staff and Gohan foster family .. Thank you for helping me get Gohan back and taking such great care of Gohan
Wonderful place! Excellent staff and lots of eager pets wanting to find their forever home! We found our Mitzi there and shes as happy as can be, so are we! Thank you Barcs!
Attended volunteer Open House. My daughter and I are excited to help the homeless dogs and cats.VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!! They need all the help they can get to socialize the cats and walk the dogs.
Always amazing! I got my first personal dog here in 2017 and have continued to have relations through rescue volunteer work. They have some of the most dedicated workers and volunteers in rescue/shelter work these days! BARCS and BCAS are the best places for lost pets to find their previous and new owners.
Great staff they always listen and care about your concerns about your pet. If youre looking to adopting a pet this is the place to go. They take good care of the animals there and are responsative to your desire to adopt or surrendering a pet that you cannot take of due to sickness or financial difficulties. Love them 💕for their timeless devotion for caring...to the animals. They are heroes in my book...Amen.
Oh, they were the most helpful, pleasant, and most of all the most compassion people ever, love the way them treated me and my baby(dog). keep up the good work.
I always have a great experience working with the TNR program
They are operating a drive up system for the vaccinations. I was very pleased with the staff and the amazing patience and care they took with my fur babies! They can be rowdy but the staff are well trained and had no issues whatsoever. Provided water which I had forgotten (and it was hot that day!) I highly recommend for the vaccination clinic services and look forward to utilizing shelter services with BARCS in the future when ready to rescue another dog or cat!
Lady at the office was a bit mean and didnt show compassion but seems like she was going through something. Anyway other than that it was good, they took my animal that passed away. :( Thank you again
What great people doing great work. We did a day of service here for work, highly recommend it. We walked dogs, help fold & roll shirts, clean up, and anything they needed. These are great dogs and cats, who are well cared for, that need good homes. They get a new facility in Spring of 2020 in the Cherry Hill area. A great place to volunteer or find your new buddy.
Love the people and how much they care for the animals under their care. I have fostered for them and highly recommend others to do the same. Fostering is extremely rewarding and benefits everyone involved. I have also adopted two beautiful dogs, neither of mine needed it but they do offer training for free when you adopt from them which is amazing. BARCS has a constant flow of pets coming in of all breeds, shapes, sizes and ages. If you do not see what you are looking for they get new pets daily so please keep going back, they are an excellent organization and deserve to all of our support!
Very attentive. They took great care of us and our new furry family member.
Great care was given to my yorky during procedure. Definitely good people caring pets.
I adopted a cat from BARCS and had a really great experience. The cages and cat rooms were very clean and all the cats had little hiding spots in case they were feeling overwhelmed by visitors. I described what I was looking for and a very helpful worker showed me a few options that fit my description. Adoption fees were surprisingly low and even had an option to buy a carrier. They took the time to go over cat care, how to fix common behavior problems, and how to acclimate kitty to his new home. They also told me everything they knew about my new cats background including why he was surrendered and went over his health history with me. My cat had a minor skin irritation and they sent me home with medication to treat it.BARCS also gives you a voucher for a free wellness visit at VCA vet hospitals within 14 days. The coolest part is treatment for follow up care and common problems are FREE. So my cat gets a free checkup and free treatment for his skin if he needs it. Definitely give BARCS a visit if youre looking for a new furry friend
Very nice staff very helpful with everything very delightful you feel welcome when you walk in the room an awesome place to go if youre looking to adopt a dog
This place broke my heart yesterday. I found a cat and can not keep it bc my dogs wont allow it. Went to the old barcs location and found out about the new location ND was so excited until they told me they were at FULL CAPACITY FOR CATS. The old location never turned me away and this place is HUGE! Just heartbreaking to know when they got all that funding they stopped helping animals.
Had to put my dog of 15 yrs down today. What great, loving, caring people. Thank you all❤❤❤
We got a lovely cat from here, he has the best personality. He gets along with his brother (doggie) and he loves playing with everyone including children then after a couple minutes of hard playtime he relax by watching tv, hes so sweet and adorable. He does not scratch up the furniture and he is very smart. Now hes part of our family and we love him so much. Friendly staff, Clean place and very knowledgeable. I also want to mention they explained to us how to introduce our new member of the family to our other pets and it was a breeze. We followed their instructions and everything went very well.
Staff is wonderful attentive and they are all animal lovers not just there to work
We adopted brothers (2). The had the most wonderful fostering they adapted to us and our home immediately. We are in kitten heaven!
Very helpful staff. Clean facility. Happy dogs.
Great animal shelter. The staff is very friendly. Great care of the animals.
Love the experience. Very helpful and friendly staff. I would recommend to anyone looking to adopt or volunteer
They helped me with everything I needed and referred me to a vet who was nice and very reasonable on prices! 😊😊😊😊
Barcs is completely amazing, staff 100% awesome, care is ❤thank you so much
The BARCS team are angels. They cared for an injured feral until she was back to good health. I appreciate the staff here so much!
Wonderful and life changing experience rescuing our puppy from here!
Everyone was friendly.. They mase me feel as though my cats were gonna be alright.. Very clean and handle with care
I am only giving this 2 stars because Olivia is amazing. The other people that work there are rude, ignorant, and inconsiderate. I will never adopt a pet there after the way my boyfriend was treated on Wednesday.
Conclusion: Thankful & BLESSED to have had BARCS as our resource for our furbaby, Sahara. Sahara, we rescued end of 2018, as she was on her way to be randomly dropped off on Baltimore City streets somewhere and I couldnt allow it so she became one with us. Well Sahara decided, Saturday the fireworks 🎇 were a little to much on her anxiety and she went a walkin through Curtis Bay and Animal Control picked her up starting my July 4th weekend dabocle. We were supposed to be moving 300 miles away and Sahara is no where, I reach out and within hour maybe 2 I had located my rogue and vagabond pup!Great, Right? Thats what we thought but nope Sahara had bigger plans and decided she needed a weekend away at the Doggie Den because we find out she has a Microchip with a disconnected number and the names Im being given were not matching the registration. No response to email sent to registered owner, disconnected number, after corresponding with Barcs Resources and Staff they did whatever they had to in order to get our baby girl back in our home and this time with a REGISTERED Micro in the case she tries trolling again.VERY APPRECIATIVE AND THANKFUL FOR AN amazing Group of Employees, from the staff at the front desk, the Volunteers, Vets/VetTechs & Administrators, You truly accommodated, adapted and worked with us IN EVERY ASPECT to get her home.... Thank You! Amazing RESOURCES!
I have worked with the shelter as an adopter and as a Foster and volunteer and they have always been more than accommodating with any questions or concerns that people have even while working by appointment only for the past year
Barcs, is wonderful if youre looking for a dog please dont shop adopt.
I took a dog that I adopted from a family that couldnt care for him anymore to be neutered. They did a great job on the surgery, but I didnt know that I would need to buy a protective cone on my own. Fortunately my sister had one from her dog that I was able to pick up on my way home. The dog is a toy poodle and he was pretty matted up when I got him so when they told me they needed to shave some of his fur I wasnt surprised. When I actually saw him I couldnt believe what they did, they shaved only his head and ears leaving the matted fur on his neck and by his collar, did a terrible job at shaving the parts they did and even cut the edge of his ear. He had scabs form all over the edge of his ear, and the man who did it had the nerve to slide me a business card and say I do grooming on the side.I have dealt with BARCS in the past and I appreciate what they do, and Ill continue to support their mission. Affordable shots and spay/neutering is important and I would still recommend them for those services. However if you can get your dog professionally groomed before going there, please do so. And make sure you buy a cone in advance. We had to wait for his stitches to heal and we have an appointment with our favorite groomer coming up soon. Im sure Yolanda will get him looking adorable again, but for now hes still a mess.
A Wonderful Haven!! There is an open door to those who need it. BARCS is a wonderful place for animals of every kind!! Since 2016 I have seen first-hand the warmth and caring the staff and volunteers show for one another and the animals they are here for. Everyone who is here work hard to ensure the safety, happiness, and general well-being of the animals and one another. For me, It was a a bit much to take in initially, but now I cannot imagine my life without it.Thank you-each of you-for what you do here every day. I know from personal experience it can be overwhelming and you do not always get the thanks you deserve. So I will say it in case you need to hear it: thank you, thank you, thank you
The staff there that I interacted with was awesome!
We absolutely loved it there! The entire staff was beyond amazing and very helpful. And we were able to give such a sweet, loving dog his forever home!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND BARCS
They were wonderful with my puppy and getting her fixed and shots. I dont like the fact that when you email them for contact you do not get a response. I have been waiting several days for information that i requested through the sites contact email..
I had heard about how amazing these people are but I wasnt prepared for exactly how awesome they really are. The staff are ALL friendly and helpful. They treat every person who comes in just the the future parents they are trying to be. The give you SO MUCH for the $75 you pay for your adoption fee that you almost feel guilty not donating more. So I did. Because they just made me feel like I was so prepared for my 1st day with my new girl. Thank you BARCS!
Awesome crew! Could really tell that they cared about the animals. Amazing facility as well.
Warm caring people. They take good care of the animals.
They were very kind and helpful when it came to our missing fur daughter. I also appreciate all the great advice in what to do to find her. However they dont tell you upfront if they had your pet the fees and protocols on getting your fur child back if you dont have the money considere your fur baby gone.
The staff was absolutely amazing, the dogs I saw were well taking care of, I was amazed on how many dog walkers were there, several of the care takers were walking and caring for the fur babies in the rain so they could get there exercise in.
We (I ) NEED dog in my life. They had free adoption March of. 2020. Drove from Hanover Pa.. Praying the whole way . . Eveyone was busy . Smiles. Greeting. Sweet honest people. Told them we needed a dog. Wanted all of them .Knew thatwe could afford one. Short story. Noyla jumped between us. She gained weight. SOOO SPOILED. Listens to most commands. We LOVE her . She is micrchipped. Has doggy health insurance. She goes by Darlin(Darlington raceway).Nolya
The best and im greek i should know!...🥰Pericles....love it.
Clean parking lot. At that time no customers allowed inside. The employees were polite and professional!
I took my baby boy champ in for a emergency visit not only did they take excellent care of my 2yr old champ. They also kept me informed of everything and also made me feel comfortable with him going with out me.DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS . 10 stars
It was wonderful we got our second pet from here
Very friendly, the dogs look well cared for.
They do so much hardwork and definitely try their best being an all admittance shelter. I volunteered at a shelter in southern maryland that also pulled animals from their shelter, especially pigs since there really arent proper living spaces for farm anillegals in Baltimore. Here are some of the animals we got from them, including my girl that I adopted who now has an instagram!
Every application I put in for a dog always comes back as max application received and never hear back whether my app is approved. I wanna give a shelter dog a furever home but I never get feed backs or let me know my app status.
They were very sweet to me. My 14 year old teacup Yorkie ;Jewels, had passed away on 4/16 and I brought her to barcs on 4/17. They were so kind and sympathetic to me. I will always remember that . The 2 ladies that helped me told me I could sit as long as I needed. Thank you barcs for being so supportive at a very hard time.. They stuck to covid protocols.
Great staff, Caring Volunteers and great selection of rescues waiting to be adopted. I have adopted 2 cats from them and always highly recommend them. Adoption fees are extremely affordable and include Spay/Neuter, Shots and Licenses. Active/Reserve/ Ex-military, Active/ Retired Police/Firefighters and EMTs can have adoption fees waived with proof.😎👍Binx (Black) and Archimedes rescued me there and living happy now.
Part of saving a life is answering the phone for the individuals trying to save a life. On your website it says to CALL or EMAIL to schedule an appointment so I called to schedule an appointment and I’ve been stuck in a vicious cycle of hanging up and calling back until I possibly select the right option that gets me an actual person!!! If you all are too busy to speak to the public then maybe you should set up an online scheduling service so we don’t have to bother you all. Six phone options and none of them lead to a soul....If you can’t answer a phone why would I believe sending an email to an abyss of darkness would be answered??? I pray the animals are getting the attention they deserve and I pray they find a nice home to go to instead of sitting around for months at Barcs because appointments are hard to come by. Hopefully, I’ll be able to find my ill mother a dog by her birthday so I don’t have to show up empty handed after promising her a pup. This is why so many people buy dogs instead of adopting because it’s hassle free..What a pity!
We love our poochie!
They were fast and friendly and I took our fur baby Wally home today. BTW were keeping the name.
Top-notch organization. Their application process moves relatively quickly, the staff are insanely friendly and helpful, and the facilities are great. We had a wonderful experience adopting our cat.
They didnt listen to me.. Hard to visit when everything over phone..
I got my best friend here, she was just a baby when we got her and now she turns 3 in December. She was the one cat no one wanted and she’s literally my everything.
Very impressed with their adoption correspondence, COVID protocols and absolutely lovely staff. Seeing the new facility and all the care going towards the animals made my heart squeal! 💗 The staff working adoption side 11/12/20 gets an extra 5 stars - they were running a tight ship and on their A game. I also encountered 3 volunteers walking dogs who were so caring and well educated on protocols and it was obvious safety for r the dogs were their main concerns. Keep up the great work guys - you are appreciated!!!!
I have nothing, nothing but love for BARC. No donation is too small. 🐾
Love the work they do. Free spay & neuter clinic for your kitties.
There are so many cute animals that need new homes and they are well taken care of. I wish I could have them all 😭
Please adopt.....many wonderful cats and dogs need homes.....
Ive been accepted to do some volunteer work, it was an awesome experience, I must say the animals are very well taken care of at this particular facility. Im proud to say that Im officially a volunteer worker at Barcs Rescue Animal Shelter
I love the new place. Plenty of space for the animals. I love it!!!
Devoted people doing the best they can to make the world a little better, one puppy, one kitten, or even one bunny at a time. They really want to send you home with a new friend, but they also want to know that you know what youre getting your self into so they talk to you, make suggestions and stuff. The only thing better than the staff are the kittens. Or possibly the puppies. Or maybe the slightly older ones, the teenagers theyre housebroken (mostly) or the Senior dogs & kitties. Mostly they need a soft bed & people to love.÷÷÷÷÷÷ King Arthur & Sir Merlin ÷÷÷÷÷÷After glorious battle, they share a waterbowl.
They found my dog, but almost gave her away. But I lucky came back three times. They had her the whole time just didnt know.
We adopted our girl, Mable, from BARCS two days before Christmas in 2017. Our experiences with BARCS have been nothing less than positive since then - in huge part because of trainers, Matt and Tina. They helped teach us how to train HER. We were completely overwhelmed when we brought her home because we learned that she had some anxious tendencies that we had no idea how to address. Matt & Tina empowered us which has helped Mable gain confidence and trust and bring out the best qualities about her. We have been working with Matt, Tina, and BARCS for about 6 months and because BARCS offers free training if you adopt from them, Mable is now trained off-leash in the following commands: sit, stay, heel, down, place, come (including a 50-yard place to come!). We are so impressed with their patience and talent to help Mable adjust to her forever home with us. We love our girl so much and are so thankful that we had their guidance to teach her the rules! Weve been able to give her the quality of life that she deserves.
BARCS. IS A GODSEND! They gave my stray rescue a flea treatment, shots, a spay, and micro chip.they are still providing services during COVID19.they were very polite however did not inform me my cat was pregnant until after the procedure was complete...I would have kept the kitten and performed the procedure at a later date had i known😢 4/5 for my lost baby
