Pretty good. Valued ahead and made sure we were able to walk in, which they were able to accommodate. Take cash or be prepared to pay in Venmo. If you barber make sure to get their name- most of them are great but one does a terrible job. We used him in a pinch once and it was awful. The cut was nothing like he asked for and in to of that, his hair wasnt cut well.

Best place in town for a man to pamper himself with an amazing haircut and beard trim. I reccomend the shop and my barber Joser. They book fast so an appointment is reccomended.

Heard very good things about BlackBoard. Went to see about walking in for a cut on Monday at 09:00 am, since thats when their FB page says they are open. However, they were not. Called them at 09:10 with no answer. I suggest they change their operating hours so others dont waste their time like I did.

Jimmy does a great haircut and beard trim for me. All of the other customers with the other barbers seem happy. The place has some great nostalgia from the famous, old Blackboard honkey tonk.

Scheduled an appointment for two haircuts, my husband got there on time and was even 5 min early. The barber was in the back and someone said they would tell him to come out and my husband waited over 20 min when he decided to leave because the barber didn’t come out and no one told him anything. Why have people make an appointment if they won’t be ready at the time or if they aren’t available? Very disappointed with their service.

Jimmy did a great job on both of my kids hair and he actually talks to them! They are very picky and it is hard to find a place that gives them what they want, but this was seriously the best. They are very happy, only place I will take them to from now on.

I went for an upcoming business trip to get cleaned up. Its a great location downtown and the inside is okay but the barbers make this place. Luke was not only precise and thorough but also easy to chat with the whole time. This might be one of the best experiences and haircuts Ive ever had. I will definitely be back from now on.

I went because a friend highly recommended them (one person in particular) but after going in and seeing very few people wearing masks I was a bit weary. But, hey, its a friend of a friend so I decided to stay and do him a favor. Unfortunately, when I found out he was one of the anti-maskers I became much more aprehensive.Heres how our introduction went:Hi! Im MYOB. Rome said you are a great barber and reasonably priced. How much for a simple male haircut?First, I wanna let you know that you dont have to wear that here. [He said this while staring at my mask] He then continues with, I know we are in Commiefornia, but they cant force us to do it!Then he started to tell me how much a haircut was but I just ignored him, turned around, and walked out of there.Not only was it unprofessional, I believe it is illegal, unethical, and frankly it reeks of a mentally ill conspiracy theorist going on a rant about 5G government mind control and chips in the fake vaccines.

I came in for my 2 oclock appointment the barbers barely acknowledge me as I walked in. I sat for an hour without so much as a word to me. People came in after I arrived were seen right away. This place is very unprofessional and I think it was very rude how I was treated. If youre not part of their clique you wont be prioritized at all! I would rate 0 stars if it was allowed!

Went inside as a walk in and was 100% immediately impressed with the shop itself, loved the chalk board, the decor hell the guitar playing dude!! The vibe was great! And it was the perfect barber shop banter felt right at home just like my home shop in virginia!! Now the hair cut itself dude spot on, I had a video of how I always get my hair cut at my shop in Virginia, and Jimmy replicated it almost spot on dude is a phenomenal barber, completely satisfied with this shop, and Jimmy. I absolutely recommend this shop and Jimmy as the stylist, I am sure the rest of the staff is just as good as well!!

This place is a good old fashioned Barber shop. All the guys are cool and for what the hair cut costs, you get your moneys worth. From lining you up with a straight razor to a quick shoulder massage. This will be my Barber shop from now on.

What a awesome place. Zach was our barber and he did such a excellent job on us. My sisters and I shaved our heads due to my sister has cancer and we dont want her doing this alone. Zach did the same hair cut on us but each one of us looked different. All sisters so happy with our cuts. I recommend this place very highly. Thank you to all the barbers there, they were so kind and very funny.

I came in here after not having a haircut for 4 months and it was a mess of a pompadour/comeover. My desired haircut was a short textured haircut with a skin fade and lineup. I got Mikey to cut my hair and it took a good hour for the cut. When I looked in the mirror it was better than I could have ever imagined. Hands down the best fade, line up, and altogether haircut that Ive had. On top of it Mikey was knowledgeable of the hairstyle and even told me the best product to use and how to maintain and style it on my own. During the long cut I noticed all the people that were walking away with finished haircuts and they all had really clean edges and fades from the other men who looked just as knowledgeable with their own stylish hairstyles. Also a plus for the cool atmosphere and scenery among the walls. Ive been to many barbers and hairstylists in Bakersfield and this is without a doubt the best place to get a haircut. Also, the price at the moment is $20 which is the standard haircut price at this point.

Worst haircut I’ve ever gotten in my life. I literally had to give myself a buzz cut. I can’t speak on all the barbers but the one who cut my hair (Hispanic guy second seat in) gave a terrible haircut. I wish I would have had him style it so I would have known right there, but I wore a hat. Lesson learned.

I walked in to this barbershop months ago with a prerty bad haircut from another location I would rather not mention. Jimmy was the barber who fixed my hair and even saw the cut on my scalp from the other location. Ever since I will only get haircuts there and they have to be done by Jimmy. This place has a great vintage feel and their service is exceptional from the moment you walk in until you walk out through their front door.

Cant really complain about anything except it gets busy from time to time other than that excellent haircuts.

This place is honestly terrible. My son went here and asked for a low fade, and the fade goes above his temple. I feel bad for him as he will definitely be humiliated by this haircut at school.

All of my teenage life I tried all sorts of styles in regards to haircuts from fades to mushroom cuts to even sporting braids! In my senior year in high school I stopped caring and said to myself, “I wonder what I would look like with a bald head”. At the time my friends and family told me I looked weird, some said I looked crazy and resembled a gang banger…that part comes into play a lot in life but that is another story in itself.When I first moved to Bakersfield in 2008 I wanted to find someone who could shave my head with a straight blade razor, I know a lot of guys out there will say to do it myself but I don’t have that kind of patience so I ended up finding one at Golden Valley Barber. He was a co-owner with his son and I really enjoyed being his customer, he was old fashion and knew his way with a blade. As the years passed on he retired, his son took over full-time and all the young barbers starting popping up in the shop, none had the same skill set as my barber so I left and never looked back. I started going to Great Clips, easy and convenient but not the skin bald head I liked but I could not find someone who could do the same thing….until now.Just recently I tried looking on Yelp and searched for “Straight Razor Haircut”, low and behold there were a few that popped up. I explored the reviews and The Blackboard Shop caught my attention and they accept credit cards, which entices me more because I hate carrying cash. Their Yelp page states they welcome walk-ins but I know it’s all by chance that you catch them during a slow time of the day, today was my lucky day I guess.It is located downtown near Jin Sushi and Chef’s Choice Noodle Bar, both places I’ve eaten at and never noticed the Barbershop across the street. They don’t have a large store front so that could be why, but when you walk it you feel that old time barbershop feel but with a modern touch. They have knick knacks from the 50s and 60s, for walk-ins you have a blackboard to sign in. As I stated it was my lucky day, as I approach the board to sign in, Menio approached me and said he can take me now. All of the seats are old fashion, I haven’t seen some like these since the 90s when I lived in Delano so this was definitely nice to see.One thing about Barbershops at least for me is the small talk between the barber and his client, Menio was engaging unlike some others I’ve encountered at other shops, he had real character to him so you know it wasn’t just some type of courtesy or professionalism he was trying to portray. I asked for skin bald and he gave me options, using a machine or a straight razor, of course I opted for the razor. He took his time and paid attention to the details, my head shape is not the friendliest shape for a straight razor but with his skills and precision he cut it well. One factor that shows how much skill a barber has with a straight razor is how your scalp feels after, I’ve had it where it felt agitated and burned tremendously with just water, this was the complete opposite, even when applying the aftershave onto my scalp, and it didn’t really burn.Looking around I noticed all the barbers had the same style of fashion, Vans shoes, Dickie pants and a skater type shirt or flannel under their barber jacket. It was pretty awesome to hear their banter with one another as well but not too rambunctious that bothers a mother and child waiting for a chair to open. The guys in the shop are friendly and say hello and thank you for coming to everyone, which is something you don’t get from most barbershops now. I left feeling good about my haircut, felt good I found a place I can return for another one and that I can recommend them to friends and family.
