My car broke down on the 5 fwy headed home to LA. I had my BMW towed here after calling ahead. They able to fix my car before the day ended on a Friday afternoon. And charged me a very reasonable amount. The staff and owner were so nice and friendly. Also theres a great Taco place to eat at and wait really close by. Mr. Clamato!!

I wish I could leave negative stars on these guys. Absolutely the worst decision Ive made was bringing my car here. After they worked on it 900 dollars later and the ECM they stole from me the cars engine seized up on the way home. DO NOT COME HERE! I REPEAT DO NOT COME HERE EVER! And they had the worst attitude.

Don’t waste your time & find a better shop. The owner is dishonest & disrespectful. I won’t go into specifics on what they did but he tried to get over on me for almost $4,000. He spends more time selling you a report on your car rather than fixing your car. Don’t waste your time.

My mom went to this place and they ripped her off. She took her car in to get the engine light checked and to have the problem fixed. They tell her it will be $2800. She pays that, they fix the car and then she picks it up, gets in the car and the engine light comes on as soon as she drives off the lot. She takes it back and they say that its another problem--convenient one that will be another $800. Waste of time, waste of money, dont trust them, do not recommend.

I will NEVER go back to German Dreams. After dealing with German Dreams I finally decided it was cheaper to tow my bug all the way to LA.German dreams quoted me $4,500 to $6,000 to get my bug running again. They told me I needed a rebuilt engine and much more. As it turns out the place in LA determined I didn’t need a new engine after all! They even told me my engine seemed to be in pretty good shape and after doing a major tune-up and a couple of other things, they had my bug running around for $2,200 and even got me a new horn, replaced one light and installed my new tires all for that price! They’ve been there for over 50 years. Definitely worth the drive! I will NEVER go back to German Dreams.I filed a complaint with the Automotive Repair Bureau.

Top notch knowledge and work for your VW product. This shop has done incredible work on my wifes CC vehicle. Replacing the A/C compressor & clean/recharge system, to ft end work w/ struts and steering alignment. Engine oil leak repaired & oil/filter change. This is the ONLY SHOP for our German vehicle. They do work on domestic vehicles also. Quality work and reasonable prices! Highly recommended. 5 Stars!

This place is over priced i got mar car fixed here wich was suppose to be roughly 500 or less and turned put to be more than a $2,000 fix it ruined thanksgiving and christmas for my family. I took my car to audi to get a quote on the repairs and they quoted me at $756 with parts and labor. Please dont come here the owner is rude and he never answers the phone you have to actually go in person to get told the same story that they got behind! If you own a Volkswagon or Audi take it straight to dealer it will be less expensive and better warranty. Thanks german dreams for the worst end of the year for my family!

Had 2 different Clutchmaster clutches/flywheels installed here. Both started slipping less than 2 years. The first install they didnt even hook up the starter correctly, and I had to get it towed back to them to get it fixed. I moved to Sacramento, and my FX250 started slipping after only 1.5 years. I went to a Subaru specialty performance shop, and found out Clutchmaster clutches are one of the worst clutches in the aftermarket industry. They told me whoever installed the clutch and flywheel did a horrible job installing the Outer Shaft seals on both sides, and one was missing. Even the front lower ball joint wasnt installed correctly. Wasted $5K at this shop, and they have terrible communication with their clients. I requested several times to the owner, George, to send me paperwork on the installs, and ZERO responses. Dont go here. Major ripoff.

I love this place. I drive a 2003 VW golf and have taken it to German Dreams a few times. Always super helpful and they can thoroughly answer all the questions you have. And you cant beat the price for the work they do! They changed my alternator for me and got me back on the road the same day, was totally not expecting that! No doubt best service I have ever gotten. Thank you guys!

I dont normally review places but felt like German Dreams deserved it. I took in a 2003 VW GTI 1.8T that was a bit past due for quite a bit of maintenance work. I had been shopping quotes all throughout Bakersfield and was given some outrageous numbers.German Dreams was the only place that seemed to give a fair price compared to the other numbers I was seeing while also specializing in German imports. When I went to pick up my car there were no surprises as far as billing goes and as soon as I drove off the car was all around better.Work done:Full timing belt servicing (including water pump and thermostat)Vacuum line replacementPCV hose replacementGasket SealsQuite a bit more but a bit much to list. Will be going back when car has other issues.

Fantastic air-cooled VW spot! Traveling west in my 69 Beetle from ABQ to San Francisco I started to have some mysterious sputtering engine issues somewhere West of Kingman, AZ, but managed to get to Mojave, CA for an overnight stay at the also fantastic Mojave Desert Inn (see a separate review elsewhere/somewhere!). Initially I thought I got ahold of some bad gas back in Kingman, but after fueling up with 91 octane 20 miles down the road in Tehachapi, the problem was persisting and worsening. By the time I hit stop and go traffic in Bakersfield it was obvious I was going to need some help. So I Googled air cooled vw on my phone and German Dreams became my dream come true. I hobbled up and was warmly greeted by George and asked what was up. Explaining that I was long distance traveling and in a bit of a pickle, I explained my issues, noting that I had done a mini-tune on the motor that very morning in Mojave (I typically do all of my own basic maintenance on the car but once in awhile I come across a problem that I just cant seem to nail down). I knew I had an intake/vacuum leak somewhere but was unable to figure out where exactly. George listened intently, wrote up a quick work order, and assured me theyd get to it ASAP and get me back on the road THAT DAY. Granted, one cant expect to just pull up and be tended to immediately, and after all, Id just landed right at lunchtime. But George and the others were gracious hosts and we traded VW & dog stories for the odd hour or so that it took to take care of the business ahead of me and for reinforcements to return from lunch. Once George pulled the car in he *immediately* honed in on the offending part -> a loose electronic idle cut-off jet on the carburetor. I thought, duh! why didnt I think to check that?!?! (VW nerds will know what I mean). And beyond that -> he gladly tutored me on the basics of tuning my particular carburetor (the relatively obscure, single model year/US only Solex 30 PICT-3, for which I have found NO decent reference material online - and aside from simple, one-screw idle adjustments I have done zero work on that carb for 20 odd years). So not only did I receive same-day, timely service - I also got a great lesson in some basic maintenance that was heretofore missing from my mechanical vocabulary. Furthermore, I was not handed a laundry list of parts that I didnt need - just a carb/intake manifold gasket). I was back on the road and eating In N Out for lunch within 2 hours and only 50 odd dollars poorer for the experience. The car ran GREAT and with GUSTO all the way back to San Francisco. So here is my shout of praise far and wide for all to hear that German Dreams is THE place to go if you own a VW. I will most definitely return even if only to say hello if Im passing through (a Westfalia Vanagon w/ Subaru conversion is in the works as we speak.) FOREVER thankful that a VW/Porsche centric shop of this caliber and kindness exists in the world!!! THANK YOU!
