Ive recently moved to Equinox from Golds and so far it has not been disappointing. I really have been pleasantly surprised with how engaging everyone has been that works there- it really has been very nice. One of the managers overheard me saying it was a first visit when I was at a location outside of Austin and he immediately stepped in and offered to give me a tour which was very nice. There is just a nicer calmer vibe there compared to Golds. I feel like I have more space and I have tried out equipment that I have not tried in the past because there are not a crush of people around. The equipment is higher end than Ive had in the past- some of the Golds equipment Ive used is not available but Ive been able to find equipment that is similar or better. Everyone is serious about their workout which is motivating in itself. I do love the amazing locker rooms- they are super clean and there are always staff around to make sure they stay clean. The steam room is amazing and relative to others Ive been in at other gyms it is very clean. I have to say I love all of the Kiehls products in the shower (body soap/ face soap/ shampoo/ conditioner) and at the sinks (face moisturizer/ body moisturizer) as well as towel service. Working on trying a class soon- I have seen a couple going on as I was working out and the instructors are pretty amazing. The price point is not for everyone but so far it is you get what you pay for.
Overall, a really great place to work out. The young lady at the front desk, I think her name’s Alexa, does a fantastic job of making each member feel welcomed when we’re walking in. Also, the cotton swabs in the locker/restrooms are a lovely amenity.
The front desk is rude. Management is not bothered if you go to them with the concerns. I’m visiting but it feels like you are working out at LA fitness gym if people in LA know what kind of standard I’m talking about!!The front desk people are not even courteous enough to show around the facility if they see you are visiting for the first time.Equinox brand is way more than this location for sure in terms of management, cleanliness, staff training, and attitude.
I joined Equinox about a month ago, and have not been disappointed. The variety of classes and cleanliness was what sold me. The instructors are all absolutely fabulous. Every staff member is welcoming, friendly, and engaging. I really can’t say enough good things. Additionally, the floor equipment is great as well. There are plenty of free weights, machines, and there is always a squat platform available.
Love Equinox! Variety of top notch classes and friendly instructors. Staff is friendly. Very clean. Definitely wouldnt pay the premium for personal training or other services, but I appreciate the value out of a monthly membership. Highly recommend!
Worth it. Variety of group classes for whatever youre into (yoga, spin, running, barre, just to name a few) and things youre not into but turn out to be great anyway (cardio kickboxing?). Tons of gym equipment for when you want to do your own thing. Space is always clean and amenities are great. Friendly and accommodating staff - let us put our account on hold for the entire year during the pandemic until we were comfortable coming back with no questions asked, which is way more than I can say for any other gym Ive been a member of.
I joined less than 2 weeks ago and am ready to cancel. I’m not sure what’s going on at the Austin location, but there are some serious quality, cleanliness and strength equipment selection issues. A friend reported that a new staff member relocating from LA told him this location was the ‘dirtiest gym in their global network’, and I don’t doubt it unfortunately. Yesterday for example - the locker room stank, the waste baskets and towel returns were all over flowing and the steam room was broken (without notice except on its door). After speaking to my membership consultant, I was told they were in the process of getting a new maintenance manager, and were ‘bringing in a new asst manager from Dallas’. I”m glad they showed recognition there were issues, but the things I’m seeing are highly unlikely to be remedied by replacing a couple of staff members. I still have my membership at LIFE TIME and it seems crazy to switch to Equinox when it’s effectively the same price for me, but LIFE TIME has none of the issues provided above. Staffing issues due to the pandemic doesn’t work as an excuse. It’s quite odd.
Check out the responses to the comments below and compare to this:They just changed their mask policy to optional even though city of Austin still requires them. Cleanliness is average, which when youre paying top dollar should be above average.I was told by a sales manager that policies would be applied nationally, following the NY Clubs lead, which was at worst an outright lie, or at best an uninformed comment just to get a sale.Flip flopping policies like the wind is a huge turn off for a high quality gym. Lets be honest, nobody wants to wear a mask, but requiring them for a while longer (like every other business in Austin) is just the right thing to do.Just so that im not totally negative, the bikes and treadmills connect to your phones and Apple watch which is cool, and the sales people in the clothing store downstairs are very nice and informative.
Love this gym and the staff! Classes are great, and the locker rooms are awesome.
The best people, best environment and great classes all in the great SoCo Zone!
Equinox is probably the nicest full platform gym in Austin, Texas. The $200 monthly fee isn’t the cheapest rate out there, but all the other (cheaper) gym chains have inferior equipment and services. If you’re someone who actually uses a gym membership at least 10 days per month, Equinox is totally worth it.
I recently joined Equinox and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. All of the teachers are very knowledgeable and easy to approach with questions. The facilities are clean and all of the equipment is very well-maintained. The manager Penelope Glifort creates a welcoming atmosphere and teaches a great yoga class. I feel very comfortable in and welcomed by the culture here.
New to Austin for work, I reached out to arrange a club tour and was very impressed. Most notable Penelope Glifort who went above and beyond any ordinary club tour. Penelope led a 5 star yoga class after our tour and we most will be back again very soon! Thank you Penelope and the new Austin Equinox team for the warm club welcome!
The classes are everything. Very clean and love the trainers. Very knowledgeable :)
Couldn’t be more grateful! Love the classes I get to attend and love the amenities. But mostly, I’m thankful for the EQ crew that makes it all happen.
Wow, where should I start? My friend invited me as her guess and the atmosphere was great. Its real vibe here. The staff was great!I had a difficult time searching for the gym, but the greeter navigated me to the location.Amazing!
Absolutely love this club. It is very clean, I never have to wait for equipment, the trainers that walk the floor are helpful, and the variety of classes that come with the membership is incredible. The locker rooms (before covid) had everything a girl could ask for to get ready before work. Everyone is also very nice and going has become a favorite part of my day! I highly recommend Equinox if you want to be at the top athletic club in Austin.
Overall the gym is nice. Most of the trainers and staff running the classes and day to day are really nice. It’s much smaller than it should be and they could use more equipment. Right now it’s not too bad, but when things are normal it gets too busy.I’ve had an issue that I’ve been told management would get back to me about. It’s been over a month and they still have not. I’ve asked 3+ times and haven’t heard back from a manager. They also make changes to things without notifying the members. For as much I pay for the premium gym I’ve become pretty disappointed in it.
Appreciate the front-desk staff, Dylan is always a huge help. Quite a lot of ground to cover/upkeep regarding maintenance with three floors, but hear/understand previous reviews. Continue to enforce mask rule - and I’ll be happy!
Came for the guest visit. Club is really small, front desk girl could not care less, steam room is not hot enough
***Update Feb 2021: Came back after freezing my membership for a few months and pretty much everyone is wearing masks. Glad they’re taking it seriously.—I haven’t seen a single staff member enforcing mask rules since I started coming here in October 2020 — and yep, most of the guests go about their workouts without one on. You can imagine all the heavy breathing that happens while weight-training, let alone on a treadmill. This has to be violating some sort of city ordinance.I know it’s enforceable. Friends here tell me Gold’s and other local gyms are strict on masks. I’ve seen Equinox’s New York clubs do it effectively, too. Please do better.
The club itself is spectacular, and the staff is so so great, but this location really has 2 shining stars! Both Coach Cassandra and Penelope!Cass is absolutely phenomenal. It’s genuinely insane how great of a coach she is, and the dramatic impact she has already had on my life in such a short period of time. It’s really transparent how much she cares about her clients, and how your program is made specifically for you, and not someone else. I’ve made so many changes, and both members, as well as other trainers have told me how they all see a visible difference my appearance and attitude. Before working with Cass, I was traumatized and entirely opposed to going into a gym, especially by myself, but now not only am I excited to go in for a workout, she’s helped groom, and boost my confidence to go into and exercise outside of our sessions together. She really holds me accountable, pays attention to my nutrition, and is constantly touching base with me, and pushes me to be my best.Cass really is a shining light for me at Equinox, and even though the club is spectacular, as are the Eucalyptus towels, she truly makes my member worth it.Next we have Penelope! She is wonderful!!! I would not be a member if it wasnt because of the great first impression she gave me, as well as really showed me she cared about me and my journey the moment I walked in that door. If it wasnt for her I wouldnt have found Cass, and I wouldnt be as successful as I am now at Equinox.Penelope 100% is one of the most attentive people there. After you sign up, she doesnt just drop you, and try to find someone else to join the club, she checks in on you, she finds out about your progress and how comfortable you are. She is so easy to get in contact with, and makes sure you that youre a priority to her and equinox. Meeting with her really kick started my journey, because she made sure I knew that she believes in me, and knowing that someone believes in me was what I really reallyneeded. The staff is great. But these two? If you have the opportunity to come in contact with them, treasure that time, because they will care about you!
Gym is nice and clean. Lacks diversity of equipment and enough of the equipment it has. Things are fine now that there is only a small amount of gym goers, but it will become a big problem even if at 50-75% capacity. All this wouldnt be so much of an issue if the cost wasnt around $200/month. Also, need to hire more women. Too many gym bros walking around. Not really sure what they do or what the value add is.
Penelope! She was incredible ❤️ I told her my thoughts the minute we were introduced and I couldnt be happier with her guidance and the tour of the gym. Its been a dream of mine to visit and Equinox and now I am a proud member! Thanks for being so helpful and kind. See you around!✌️
Warning! I tried to cancel my membership but was told I could only cancel if I was moving to another city that didn’t have an equinox. So I had to lie and come up with a fake document saying I lived somewhere else. Only way to get out of membership is to die or move to another city
Equinox is a new fitness/health club. We are lucky to have this club in central Austin. Its spacious, modern, clean with great equipment and parking. I will be a forever member. weve desperately needed this upscale gym in Austin.
Excellent range of classes, instructors, & staff. Runs efficiently, is clean, and is working hard to satisfy members.
I trying to transfer my membership to this location since the manager was not in the club the staff members((Liz) were unable to assist. Unable to take classes on that day. Very poor customer service, if I have the option to gave them zero star I will do it . Do not spent your money at this location go to some other fitness club. Terrible experience....
Always awesome
Most of the people are great, but top management are corporate puppets that refuse to acknowledge the issues present. The paper towel dispenser has never worked. They are using products that are not meant for showers, so they will grow mold. The giant dust bunny? That was the first class in the main studio that evening, so between noon and 5 no cleaning had been done. The walkway from the parking garage floods, so you have to walk into oncoming traffic when its raining. Please keep in mind I voiced these issues as they came up since November, and not a single one has been addressed. Ive sent numerous emails, filled out feedback surveys, and spoken with the main puppet. Still nothing. Maybe this will get their attention!
Incompetent and emotionally reactive management team. Rude and careless front desk staff.
Unfortunate number of patrons (and staff...) not wearing masks
Good
Really clean gym, staff is awesome. I highly suggest Hannah as a personal trainer, and Chance is great in the spa for a sports massage.
Continues to charge cc during covid after i cancelled 3x.
The way the steam room is open
The gym itself is cool but the customer service is majorly lacking, for the price of the membership its super disappointing and made me not want to renew.
Doesn’t offer a day pass for non-members. You get 1 Star for lack of participation
Buyer’s remorse.
