CrooksTook my old car here because my radiator had an issue—they way overcharged me based on estimates I got after the fact from other technicians and also tried me to get other work done I didn’t need. But wait there’s more!Somehow they broke my serpentine belt (I don’t know how on earth they would manage this) and replaced it for me and acted as if it was some kind gesture. Even after that,They somehow cracked my air intake, did not tell me, and fixed it with some temporary glue without even letting me know. It was only after my regular mechanic contacted me that I realized that this happened. I went back to the shop and explained the situation to them and the guy told me ‘this isn’t work our shop would do’ when they literally had just done it to my car. They paid to get the part shipped in but this STILL isn’t the end of the story.After leaving the shop, I got my normal repair shop to fix it and I had a check engine light on. I got a read for the code and it said that somehow FIVE out of 6 cylinders failed. I had my buddy who’s a mechanic take a look at it and he said that it seemed like nothing was wrong except a few wires were unplugged—he just plugged those wires back in and my engine ran fine. Why were these wires mysteriously unplugged??Moral of the story: do not go here—they are not trustworthy and overcharge.

I have been to Daves countless of times, Im a returning customer and bring all my cars here often, I have given them a lot of business. However, my last experience with them was really unpleasant and have me taking my business elsewhere now permanently.I brought my car here for three different dash lights on, I told them xx lights are on, they say it would be $129 to take a look and despite it being a really high price, I agreed. I leave my car here all day. They call me to say they checked one light and diagnose x issue, I said okay what about the other lights? They say it would be extra $129 for second and another $129 for third light. I was shocked. I told them Ill come pick my car up then because this is something you should have told me before. I paid $129 and took my car.I ended up taking it elsewhere where they checked all the lights for one diagnostic fee. I called up several places and no one charges separate diagnosis fees for every light. And guess what, it was all related to one thing.I would not have an issue if that is what their policy is, but I was ripped off $129 by not being told this when I took the car. No one is going to pay upwards of $400 for diagnosis. This is just wrong and manipulative to bring this up to customer after you already have worked on their car.Long story short, I wasted my day and $129 for no reason. Daves is good until they are not. I would not take my cars here again and recommend others not to do it either. There are many other shops in the area.Edit after seeing shops response:My complain to you is not that why are you charging three different diagnosis fees for different lights, it is that you did not tell me this when I brought my car. You told me this after you checked one light, why was I not communicated this before you took my car with $129 quote ? Didnt I told you three lights are on when I gave you my car ? How is this an honest business practice? If you had told me we will charge $129 per light check I would have taken the car elsewhere. I literally wasted my money with you.I dont know why trusted mechanic is in quotes. I didnt use that word. And yeah I took it to other mechanic to check the other lights that you were suppose to check, no reason to to bring sarcasm into this. Other businesses exist and people go to them.Also, you want $129 to check Tire pressure monitor light ? The sensor that would be out costs $60, the entire part is less than half of what you want to take a look at it. If this is not ripping people off than what is ?

The guys at Daves were very helpful, nice, and fast! When the first thing they tried didnt fix the problem, they got me back in right away and replaced my evap canister for about half the price that I was quoted by Midas. I will definitely be returning for future car repairs!

I appreciated the way that I was treated at Daves. While they were not able to help me they were very honest and forthright about what they would need to do to diagnose the symptoms in my car. They stated it would take 2 hours to diagnose and therefore I would have to pay for that time (about $250). It was not worth it to me so I told them not to worry about it and just picked my car up. I appreciated the honesty and them allowing me to make the choice that was right for me. I think the problem may be best handled by the dealership. I would recommend them based on their honesty and professionalism. I cannot speak to their knowledge base though as I did not use their service in the end.

Promptly served and the gentleman at the desk even told me my damage wasn’t severe enough to justify the price he’d have to charge. He was super helpful, kind, and I’d come here again if anything happened to my car. I went to Daves recently in order to replace my stolen Catalytic converter. Communication was easy and timely over the phone. They did a great job keeping me up to date on progress, especially since there was a shortage on the part I needed.In order to prevent future theft, they also recommended a potential solution. Since they couldnt take care of it in shop, they referred me to someone else that could take care of that portion.They definitely have integrity and communicate well. I would definitely recommend this place! They were professional, fast, and very helpful. I walked in needing a brake light bulb replaced because I could not remove the screws but had the bulb. They helped me get the screw off, showed me the trick, and didnt even charge me for their time. I will absolutely be coming back for any car repairs or other services needed!! I made a morning appointment to get my car diagnosed. When I dropped it off at 9am they told me it was gonna be $129 just for them to look at it; it seemed pricy to me but they said that was the standard price (which is a lie because there’s two car shops up the street that charge way less). I asked if they would be done before noon because I needed the car for work and they assured me they would. When I came back 3 hours later they hadn’t even looked at it. I do not recommend people bring their cars here.

First time at Daves Ultimate Automotive and incredibly happy with the service received. I came here for my state inspection and 30k miles recommended maintenance. There was some work that did not need to be done, which they were honest about, called regularly with updates, gave me options on prices, and were very quick with the work conducted.

Outstanding service. I went to Daves on N. Lamar, thinking I needed a new car battery. Daves tested the battery for no charge, and did a check of the entire engine; turns out the battery was fine, but there are few other repairs my car needs. My service advisor was Chris Minckler; Chris was very helpful. The mechanic crew took photos of the few small repairs my car needs, and Chris showed me the photos and explained what each repair involves. I will definitely be going back to Daves from now on.

I had to use this place due to proximity to my apartment for flats/tire issues a few times, and every time I went in I get my car back with like 5 new indicator lights on. I ask them both times to fix whatever they did that caused this, and they said I’d need to pay them for a diagnostic and refused to fix the issue.

I needed to get my check engine light off, after 3 visits to Daves, each time paying for services & work, receiving documentation for only one of the 3 visits (1st a diagnostic & replacing the check egine sensor- light came back on after, 2nd diagnostic said it was a gas leak so replaced a faulty gas cap- light came back on after, 3rd time still a gas leak so they said there was a hole they patched, guess what the light came back on. So not about to go in for a 4th visit on the same problem, I took my vehicle to D&H auto, brought my own diagnostic showing the gas leak & told them whats up, and guess what.. the paid for replaced gas cap I got from Daves was completely wrong & the problem. & it didnt take 4 visits to figure out & fix, an unthinkable notion ik..... save yourself the trouble

I was very impressed with Daves from start to finish. I actually called them from the parking lot of the Toyota dealership, because I had just received a list of major maintenance items that I needed totaling more than $1,500. I spoke with Greg, and he suggested I come by to take a look. I ended up dropping my car off a couple days later, and within a few hours, they had taken care of all the necessary maintenance, ruled out the unnecessary items that Toyota suggested, and even knocked out my state inspection which was due. All was about 25% of what Toyota would have charged. I think I found my new service shop!

I needed to get my brake light bulb changed. Some of the screws were stripped so it was harder for me to do. They were so welcoming when I walked in! I stopped in recently to have my air pressure checked when my light came on. I was on my way out of town and wanted to make sure it wasnt anything serious. I spoke with Greg. He was extremely helpful with my concerns. Made sure there were no issues and was very patient with me. He was helping several other customers & answering the phones as well. There was another guy there but I he seemed more interested in his personal phone call than to help me or anyone else for that matter. I will definitely go back and will ONLY see Greg from now on!

Went here for an oil change off of a friends recommendation. Due to COVID I had to drop my car off but they were able to take care of my oil change within 2 hours, which isnt too bad when youre dropping your car off. They dont over charge for service like other places will and were really friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend them!

Either dishonest or incompetent.They told me my tire sensors need to be replaced and it would cost ~ $150 per sensor. I looked at my car manual and it says after a tire change I should do a recalibration. I recalibrated it using the car settings menu and everything was working perfectly. I called the dealership and they confirmed that the only thing that has to be done is recalibrate the sensors after a tire change and it is an EXTREMELY STANDARD thing to do.If I were charitable, I would say these guys know little to nothing about newer cars (i.e cars made after the 20th century?). The only other thing that could explain this is dishonestly.

This was my first time at Daves and I couldnt be more pleased.The motor on my window had broken and would no longer stay up. I had been using duct tape to keep it up for a couple days while I found time to bring it into the shop.When I arrived, everything was clean and everyone I interacted with was friendly. They were able to fix everything the same day for a great value. They even cleaned off all the goop that the duct tape had left! I highly recommend them. They are definitely the ones Ill go to for future maintenance.

Use to be my favorite go to place for maintenance... until they try not to take accountability for over torquing my oil pan plug when knowingly they was last to do my oil change. Was going to charge me an extra 300 for a 65 dollar job. Last time Ill let them work on my vehicle.

The first time they fixed my ac (replaced 2 thermostats) The second time they replaced my O2 sensors. My car is running better than ever. It’s tough to find a shop that will do quality work on a 94 Corvette but these guys have pulled through both times. I’ve only lived in Austin for 6 months but this is definitely my shop. See you next time.edit-Been here 5-6 times now.Second to last visit i was quoted $550 to repair my horn.Last visit I was quoted $1,100 to repair my window.Took it elsewhere and had the window repaired for less than half the price and its working great. Cant understand how a shop in the same vicinity can do the same job for half the price. (This new car shop was recommended online and by another car shop,) Also not sure who would willingly pay $1,100 to make a window go up and down. When I advised that I would not be repairing my car with them (because of the price) they didnt seem to mind. Picked my car up and went straight to the other shop. Was done at less than half the price by next day.Last time I went to drop my car off at Daves, I honestly did not feel super welcomed although I have been taking my car here since I moved.

Long-time very satisfied customers. Recently had a car we bought used towed in. Robert with Dave’s suspected car might have extended warranty with manufacturer. Confirmed with dealer and had it towed to them for repair. Dave’s could have made several thousand $’s off us but instead discovered warranty and saved us thousands. I made an appointment online, daughter dropped the car off and they called me later in the day and sent a report with findings. I felt comfortable with their assessment and price for repairs and do not feel like there were any unnecessary suggestions or any attempt to upsell or find more things wrong. They did call back and ask about the oil, which was way overdue, so I appreciated that suggestion. Bottom line, being out of town and too far to come get the car I was at the mercy of an Austin shop and I feel very good about Dave’s and will use them again. Tommy was super helpful!

My A/C wasn’t cold anymore. They checked everything, added Freon and leak detection. Also let me know if it started blowing warm, bring it back and they would recheck it at no charge! I would definitely bring my car back!

The experience at Daves was great. I had called ahead to inquire about their charges; they were very upfront with those and more importantly, did not tag on numerous additional charges. The only blot on my experience was that they took surprisingly long to complete the service.

I went for an alignment. The greeting was courteous and professional. I explained what I needed, the employee asked questions to get a better understanding of what is going on with car. I left my car and upon my return, I was informed about additional issue not known. That was a plus that I now have information regarding my car. My tires were aligned and steering wheel straightened. Had multiple TERRIBLE experiences with this place. The first time we took my partner’s car in, they charged us for a new engine ($$$). Less than a year later, the new engine wasn’t working properly, and instead of honoring their 2 year warranty policy, they charged us for ANOTHER engine. Tried to fight them on the cost, but they wouldn’t budge. Now, our car is still having issues, and Dave’s is trying to charge us thousands of dollars more. Honestly don’t even waste your time with this place, they are not skilled mechanics and have awful customer service.

I had a 2006 Corolla towed to Daves and was really happy with the service. All I had them do was do a diagnostic to see why it wasnt starting, but they went above and beyond and sent me a report with photos and details of everything they recommended I do. Ill be taking our other cars to them in the future for sure.

Once I found Daves Ultimate Automotive at 4926 N. Lamar Blvd and they started repairing my 10+-year-old Mazda 3, I have never paid any other auto repair business to fix my car. Major and minor repairs, and oil changes alike, they have done a fantastic job. Recently they researched a problem Ive been having with vibration and loose motor mounts, found an underlying problem with a related part, and fixed it. I am so glad! I am always pleased with the service and the way my car performs after their expert care.

There front desk was a bit hostile, they couldnt even find my reservation. It took 2 hours to do a simple oil change even though I went there with an appointment.

My experience with Daves wasnt that great. I wasnt given a clear explanation of what the mechanics thought was going with my car. Then when I reached out about a week later because I was still experiencing the same problems, I never heard back.

I had been dealing with codes p0451 and p0453 for the longest time and I exhausted EVERY avenue of trying to figure it out myself; changed out the fuel tank pressure sensor, the purge solenoid, the vent valve, even the gas cap to try and fix it. Those codes just were not going away. I took it to the mechanic that I usually deal with, but he’s a solo operation and doesn’t have much time to look into minute details like this problem was, so I took it to Dave’s. Only took them a day to figure out that I had installed the fuel tank pressure sensor on reversed (WHY the heck don’t they engineer that into the part’s design??). Anywho, they were very courteous and they email you their findings, which is nice so that you can have something to reference when they call you. I’ll be coming back here if I’m unable to fix any further issues with my car!

I just bought a used truck to tow a travel trailer and day after purchase the ac went out. I reached out to the crew at Dave’s for help. They were great. Tommy was courteous, helpful and communicative. My ac was quickly repaired and I was given an overall diagnostic of the truck for future reference. Although I didnt get my vehicle repaired I was very happy and grateful that the staff was very forthright and honest that the repairs to my vehicle wouldve far surpassed its worth. Not only that, but because of that they didnt charge the inspection fee! Its very refreshing how fair and honest they were! Ive been a victim in the past of mechanics beginning repairs knowing that more would incur, not giving me the opportunity to decide if I wanted to go through with all of them or not and basically forcing me to get them done or else my vehicle would be inoperable. And Ive also been charged an inspection fee for having a vehicle looked at for but a few minutes only to be told that the repairs couldnt be done or that they would exceed the vehicles worth. Not at Daves! It was extremely honorable for them not to charge me considering how handy the money for the inspection fee would come in for me to get back and forth to work. I highly recommend them on integrity and honor alone! Im sure the great reviews I read are a true testament to their work ethic and craftsmanship as well!

After registration (covid) waivers I needed both cars inspected for new stickers and both my wife and myself are in the high risk pool for multiple reasons. Daves accommodated the inspections around my schedule. The process was as clean and safe as can be. I always return to Daves.
