We have rented equipment from this company twice and were always happy with the service and the quality of the equipment. Also very affordable! Will definitely come back
Company forces you to enter all info online and don’t offer a phone number until this happens. I mix shows all over the country and I have never been straight up ignored, even after entering all my personal information, including references (what?). This is not a system for professionals; clearly they’re more concerned with liability than relationship. We ended up flying gear in from Los Angeles and New York. A shame, because part of bringing work to a city is supporting the local economy.
What a disappointment. The staff is rude and unprofessional via email. In order to rent equipment, they require a TON of personal information - 3 personal references, including closest family member, photo of drivers license, past two home addresses, location of work, whether I own or rent my home, they even asked what church I go to... (What are you going to do with the name and phone number of my three closest friends and family members? Harass them if I steal the equipment? Thats illegal.) Good grief, Im trying to rent a drum kit, not an airplane. And even after giving all of the information requested they required a 100% cost-to-replace deposit, a 5% nonrefundable fee (on the deposit - so sizeable) before the rental rate. What an absolute waste of time.Looking through the other reviews here, there is a trend - service needs work. Everyone is dealing with the pandemic, guys. Its not an excuse.
I have been renting gear here for over 25 yrs and not one time have I had a problem. Getting more gear from them this weekend for a 50th anniversary party I have to DJ. All the staff is truly professional and never rude, lately Rene always helps me out and I encounter NO PROBLEMS at all, Thx Rock n Roll for always coming through like Always! -DJ Bird
Good selection of stuff, but the rental application process is *insanely* invasive. Its vastly easier to rent a car than it is to rent a $100 guitar pedal from these people.
These guys came in clutch for me! Able to customize a rental package, pickup process was smooth, and they even were able to easily extend the rental after having booked a last minute gig. I definitely reccomend them to anyone looking to rent music gear in Austin, TX.
These guys always take care of me for my rentals. Great prices and now that they have the reservation system setup its much more seamless. If its your first time renting, be prepared to spend 15 minutes or so filling out paper work and providing lots of personal info.
Great karaoke gear! Easy setup and rental process. Made our weekend!
Possibly the worst gear rental place you could ever go to. The way they spoke to my team was uncalled for, and extremely unprofessional. When asking simple questions for service, we had members of the team hang up on us or totally disregard our requests and eventually we had a higher up hit us up, he said “maybe we should just call it and go somewhere else”. I’ve never heard of such amateur behavior from a “professional” back line company. Honestly it’s the kind of Austin mentality that gives the city a bad name. The owner and employees should be ashamed of themeselves. Don’t trust this company
We rented the karaoke package. Its an incredible deal, easy to set up, and so fun!
New Covid restrictions make it to where you have to order online now and wait a day or two. Still the best place in town for music equipment rental! Nice guys too.
Best place in town to rent equipment. Fair prices and great service. Theyre doing an excellent job at going above and beyond to the pandemic, the process they have in place is fantastic and to be applauded. Ive been using them for 20 years and will do so proudly for another 20.
Extremely friendly prices, and a great selection of instruments to choose from. The only complaint I have is that their rental application process/requirements was more intensive than my recent application to buy a car.
This review is especially for the staff closing on Wednesday 10/14:I apologize again! I mistakenly thought 7pm was the closing hour; however, Erik and all the guys who were still there were incredibly helpful with allowing me to return my rented equipment. All of them are super awesome!Furthermore, I’d like to add I’ve rented a lot of different gear from here over the years. They have almost everything you could think of! But yes, as mentioned, the staff here are what make this place so awesome! Very knowledgeable, and helpful. The guys on Wednesday night helped me out a lot— they’re champs! Also helped out tremendously on Tuesday 10/13 with filling a last second order on a busy day— amazing!Thank you! Love y’all!🤠👍🏻🙏🏻
Absolutely terrible customer experience. I never write reviews, but I was so disappointed by how I was treated by Rock N Roll rental that I had to do something.Their process for curbside pickup during the pandemic is TERRIBLE. Absolutely awful. You have to fill out ten million forms online, which isnt itself a problem—I get it im renting something and you need my info—but the online forms they have setup are TERRIBLE, make no sense, and make it EXTREMELY difficult to fill out all necessary information. You have to go back and forth over text, online forms, and email with their staff to get anywhere. Its legit so bad I actually couldnt believe it. Its like 10X worse than going to the DMV to get your car registered.Outside of this terrible flow for actually getting a rental, there staff was extremely rude to me. I understand that yall are very busy on Fridays and Saturdays, but they acted like they didnt care at all if I got the equipment I needed—which is realistic because I actually dont think they cared if I got what I needed. It was really frustrating.I really hope the ownership sees this review because you need to simplify this process. There are way way too many hoops to jump through, and the entire experience is so fragmented. PLEASE MAKE IT EASIER. Alternatively you could simply go back to how the store operated prior to the pandemic. Every other store in Austin is open. Simply require masks and sanitizer.Ive been a customer of R&R for 3 years ever since I moved to Austin. Unfortunately, Im done renting from them now.South Austin Music was such a better experience. Their staff is awesome, their store is open, and they are super helpful. Going to recommend all musicians in Austin to go there for music and gear needs.
Rock and Roll rentals is a rip off. They charge for gear and make you pay a deposit if they don’t trust you. ( not everyone has to submit a deposit).Even after jumping through their hoops, they then don’t provide good aftercare service.I was made to set an appointment and wait, however when I drove up to do an exchange, another gentleman was waiting there and he was allowed to get gear without a reservation. When I questioned the owner about his policy, he asked me what was my point? I am highly offended and won’t rent for them again. Poor owner attitude equals poor service.
This place is The Candy Store for musicians! Great gear at great rental prices.
Great service... easy process!
Great prices, great system! Will be using yall again!!
Great service! I especially love their pedal of the month subscription it’s a great way to explore. A great destination for your musical needs especially if you primarily work with 1/4 in sound inputs and want access to an amazing PA.
This the THE place to go to rent speakers and audio equipment! They even have a rental/purchase option too!
Its a hassle applying for a rental from their website, the process can take forever, I wasted a whole week of emailing back and forth without getting to a middle ground. If you offered a deposit since the equipment is not cheap they wont take it, instead, you have to rent a guitar of their choice, then they will see when they can give you the product you are asking for.
Rude staff, front door looks like your going through customs with all the signs. Ive had better experiences at the DMV. The process for renting equipment is basically the same for adopting a child fron a non NATO country with no embassy. Buying a house with bitcoin is easier. If it was my choice I would refuse to give these folks any business. Ive been here twice today had to wait in the parking on emails and text messages. Now Im leaving with no equipment. Ridiculous..
LOVE this place. Super easy to work with, knowledgeable staff, quick and covid-safe pickup and dropoff.
Awesome people and great service!
Super quick and easy, they were very helpful, all the gear I rented was in perfect condition, will definitely be coming back again
Great experience. Service was surprisingly fast, I love the idea of trying and experimenting with instruments in the comfort of my home rather than on a showroom floor. The guitar I got was well taken care of. I will absolutely be back for more!
Great experience renting from RocknRoll Rentals - the gear was top notch, service was excellent and great pricing. They staff was super friendly and helpful with great communication. I will be a regular now. Thanks to the team here.
Best place ever...a customer for over 40 years
The curbside service they were providing when I went was pretty good. Relatively efficient. The problem I have with Rock n Roll is the staff. They are not very friendly and are very slow. Ive been renting here for years because theyre really the only rental house in town with a wide inventory of equipment, but I hate going. The staff just dont know what customer service is. Many are very slow, unfriendly and unhelpful. This is true of both the Oltorf and Burnet locations.
This place is awesome. Any A/V gear you want to play with is available for dirt cheap. The initial application is kind of a pain, but understandable given how many times things must come back damaged or not at all.We rented two battery-powered PAs, stands, and an SM58 mic for a small wedding, and everything worked great.
I love this place. I have been renting here for years, its been nothing but great. You will get 1 on 1 assistance and the employees are super friendly and knowledgeable. Sometimes during peak season/hours there can be a pretty decent wait but thats only because of how thorough and personal there service is.They also have great long term rental and used equipment prices!Lastly this is definitely the best place to rent concert, party, event equipment in Austin. Their lighting selection is top notch and at well priced
Great selection. Great rates. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. All rental experiences have been 10/10. I recommend this place highly.
Always amazing service
Rock n Roll Rentals is an incredible resource for musicians and Ive never discovered a place in any city that even comes close to it in value and selection. The staff is great too. It can get busy but that is for a reason!
Ive been renting from them for years. Years. Small stuff to bigger stuff (boards, speakers, snakes, etc.Customer service has always been very good and reps qre pretty knowledgable as well about the gear.
Always a easy process and fast. The staff answered all my questions and made sure I was all set for my event
Best gear rental place in Austin. Knowledgeable staff and great customer service. Process is very streamlined, staff helps with recommendations. Prices cant be beat. Drop-off/return process just as easy as pick-up. Highly suggested.
Rented many times. Selection is economical to.none and service always great
Staff masked. Curbside assistance. Great gear! Been using them for years! Great place if you need to rent any kind of musical equipment!
This place is top notch. I was able to outfit a large house party with proper sound / lights / effects for an insanely reasonable price. Definitely do come here if you’re trying to take your party to the next level.
This is a great place to rent for anyone that needs sound equipment, lights, or anything else music related. They have a wide variety of items to choose from to put together any event and they rent it for a great price. I would highly recommend Rock n Roll Rentals to musicians. I have rented quite a lot from these guys and they have always taken care of me. They have a pedal plan for any aspiring guitar players looking for new pedals to add to their rig. They also help with letting me know exactly what I need in order to put together a show at a private venue. While it can get very busy at certain times of the day, their customer service is very good and they make it easy for you to make a decision on what you need. Highly Recommend!
Always a great positive experience here!!
The staff is usually very helpful/informative. Their system of paperwork has gotten a lot more optimized than in the past. An online option would be great for the majority of it, though. Get there when its not busy, or youll be there for a pretty long while. Good service, good selection, quick when youre prepared/the lines short.
The website was clunky and not user friendly. It took 5 days for them to finally get back to us and let us know that since we lived 40 miles away they would only rent us a guitar if we gave them the full price of the instrument up front ($1100!) This despite good credit, and employment and and card on file. I am disappointed
This is the best place to rent any music equipment from. They have great customer service and are very friendly. Even on busy return days (Monday’s and Tuesday’s) they are mindful and quick to get their customers taken care of. My only wish is that they’d carry Marshall amps but what they have more than makes up for it!
Got my new piano from here, very fast and efficient.
So, Ive been going to RnR Rentals for 7-8 years now. I had nothing but good experiences when it came to rentals, information on equipment, and all around customer service. However, where they lack is repairs and communication regarding repairs. I turned a Pioneer DDJ-SZ2, that I purchased from RnR, around October of 2019. I get it back NYE 2019 and there was no repairs done. I received a call saying my controller was done, but there was miscommunication within the staff, and in fact nothing had been done. I take it back and get it back a couple months later. They fixed one issue I reported, but not the others. I had to take it back yet another time and explain, and demonstrate, exactly what was wrong. Fast forward to a week ago, more than 8 months after I initially took my equipment in, I pick up my controller. Im so certain that after all this time, there cant still be anything wrong. So, I take it out to a gig and lo and behold there are still issues. At this point, Im over having to take it back and back and wish I wouldve just left it there for them to sell. At least they wouldve had to do some significant QA before putting it on the shelf. My conclusion is, rent from there, but dont buy from there, and for damn sure dont take anything there to be repaired. Craig and his staff do a phenomenal job, despite my repair experience, at staying up to date with information on rentals and suggesting what would be best for your event.
Great guys and very fair. Easy to work with and great rental rates.
Rock and Roll Rentals can be a life saver for anyone in the live music, or DJ industry.. Ive done business with them over the past two decades. I fully understand the approval process can be a bit of a grind...but if youre renting out several thousand dollars of gear from anywhere, wouldnt you automatically expect a credit check of some sort? Just an ID isnt going to cut it. You can imagine the amount of upkeep and maintenance they have to perform to keep the gear in nice condition. This is the go to place if you need anything as simple as a microphone, a karaoke machine, fog, or hard guitar amps, cables, etc.. Unless $$ is no object... RnR Rentals has the best rental selection and is the best value in Austin..
Great service and prices.
Its the only place to rent sound equipment in town. Because of that, they are rude and condescending. Their rental process is time consuming and archaic.
Dealing with Rock N Roll rentals is like dealing with the police. They treat their rich and well connected costumers with the utmost respect, and then treat me like dirt. Im a independent musician just trying to record some of my songs. Whenever I go in I always get the feeling that they are trying their best not to rent to me, even though Ive filled out their paperwork as asked and have a legitimate job with health insurance and retirement. Every time they grill me on my address and phone number because I dont own a car and have to come by bike. I would be okay with all this if getting through the degrading interrogation meant I could finally rent what I needed, but then they wont even do that. For example, they wouldnt rent me a mike stand unless I rented a mic to go with it. Seriously? What does it matter if Im going to pay for it?! I own a mic and no stand. Why shouldnt I be able to rent a stand for it? I dont think there is any other business in this world that I despise more than Rock N Roll rentals. My life goal is to open a rental store that puts them out of business.
Smooth rental place! They want a lot of information for renting, but thats understandable since its expensive stuff! We rented sound system for our wedding and Im very pleased. We told them what we needed and they put together a good package for us. So a sound system for a 100 people outdoor wedding came out to just over 50 dollars!!
Covid-19 has this place really spooked (like most places). I was very uncomfortable and annoyed that no one comes out to your car to see what you need - we had to text, and they arent going to deal with you unless you have an appointment.
The best. They have everything you need at great rental prices. My go to for the last 6 months for everything from speakers and mics, projectors, lighting, and more.
Reasonably priced rentals on AV equipment. They are mainly geared towards helping musicians and bands, but also rent to individuals who just want a karaoke party. We rent once or twice a year, so have to fill out their extensive form every year, but staff is very knowledgeable and helps get you the right stuff for a backyard party.
Superb service and a great selection of very affordable sound equipment. The weekend rental policy is more than adequate, allowing pick up Tuesday before and return the following Monday. The staff are technically knowledgeable, as most our musicains themselves.
I have been renting from Rock N Roll Rentals for the past 5 years. Anyone that hates on this place is probably just a bitter human being. They have provided both consumer level and professional gear at an INCREDIBLY reasonable rental rate for multiple projects I have taken on, both in the live setting and the studio setting. The staff knows the gear, is very helpful with answering any questions I might have. I am a professional audio engineer and performer and not ONCE have I been disappointed in the service or gear availability and quality.
This place is a gift. I rent from Rock N Roll almost weekly. They have amazing prices, and the staff does a great job. It might help that I am a sound engineer and I know what I want/need, but if I had to deal with what they go through on busy days, I definitely wouldnt be so courteous. They give you the opportunity to never BUY anything! Their prices are so great, you can actually make money doing whatever it is you do. Give them a shot, be patient, this kind of amazing wonderland is one of a kind and you should be grateful you get to RENT anything! Have you met people lately? Would you trust the rest of the world with your stuff? May Rock N Roll... Rock N Roll forever. Amen.
Good place to rent any musical or theater equipment you need. They have just about everything. To top it off if you dont like what you rent they will make it right. You wont get ur money back but they will fix, repair or upgrade your equipment to please you.
Excellent customer service! Great pricing on rentals. Decent variety of instruments (even a couple Thermins!)My favorite place to go to pick up sound systems for events and instruments for our family to try out at home.
I had heard pretty exciting things about this place. Upon entering I was met with a friendly cashier who wanted me to fill out an application(no credit check, no pay stubs, nothing required except a state ID).Unfortunately I have a US Passport, which is an even higher authority of identification and was refused service. I offered paystubs directly from my phone, my lease agreement(to prove residency, my social security card, references tried to be polite to the manager and support what I thought would be an awesome local business. I brought in multiple people to shop and spend money. I’m sure plenty of people will find use of this place, but as someone who’s spent $5000 in the last two years(with more proof I could’ve offered) only to end up liking half of it, I am heartbroken we couldn’t work something out over something so unbelievably pointless and trivial. An update 7 months later, and no, I did not reach out to the manager as you get one chance as a business with me when it comes to profiling, and that’s exactly what is wrong with this company, my roommate just returned home(a house we rent together and have lived at for 2 years) and was told he could not rent a guitar pedal. No reason, no ID problems, just refusal. It’s his day off, he’s been jamming in the garage all day and is looking a little sloppy. My advice? Rent or buy a $1000 suit, dye your hair blonde, cut it, and pop in some blue contacts before you go in.
This place has a huge selection of audio, visual, and special equipment for rent at reasonable rates. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
They were really helpful with finding lighting for a small party. They showed us how to work the lights and offered to help by phone if we had trouble once we got home. The prices were also reasonable.
Easy and simple process to rent guitar. Friendly staff.
Love this place! Been renting with them for 10+ years now. I also have bought a bunch of used gear here for a great price. Local business and the birthplace of the hipsters haha
Attractive pricing, however, their processes, systems, and staff are not customer centric. Our organization has rented from R&R, on a number of occasions, however, this was my first direct interaction. Our staff, gave me a disclosure prepping me for a callused transaction, however, my innate optimism mitigated this disclosure. I wish I could say the same concerning my experience. My experience, validated our staffs disclosure, affirming that in the future we will pursue other rental options for our future needs.I was encouraged to see that Rock and Rolls leadership read these reviews. At the very least, it indicates that someone in the organization cares, however, that same concern is not a part of the cultural value of the staff on the floor.Consider other options first!Best of luck to you, should you choose to rent from R & R.
This place was a lifesaver. I had a need pop up on short notice for a particular drum set arrangement. They have several types of drum kits to choose from, and the paperwork was quick and easy. The rental price is not much more than pocket change. In and out for rental and return is about as painless as hauling around a drum set can be.
These guys are super chill and even superer helpful. And they have a ridiculous selection of gear.
Ive been doing business with rock n roll rentals for 25 years. When they first started they had second rate gear amd were hard to deal with. Now they are a goto for all kinds of pro audio and lights. Their prices are the best in the city, and the crew there is top notch. If you need gear for your weekend gig, go early because theres usually a line of customers out the door.
Best place for djs to get rental equipment. Affordable price and great quality equipment.
I don’t usually write reviews but... this company needs to standardize their deposit rates and not engage in subjective and borderline discriminatory profiling of customers or invasive unnecessary questioning. Their customer service person straight up lied and said deposits are based on equipment value but then admitted it’s based on the individual and their subjective opinion of whether they believe you are trustworthy. It apparently doesn’t matter what your job is or what company or institution you’re affiliated with if you have the wrong last name or skin color or whatever else they want to profile you for. My white colleague was charged nearly 1/3 the deposit amount as me for equipment that was 50x more valuable, despite having the same rental history. The customer service person went so far as to ask me the name of the person who would be playing the equipment, and if I owned my home. My colleague was not subjected to the same line of questioning by the customer service person who helped her, which is the way it should be for everyone. The system is a joke and it’s easy for employees to abuse it. Two stars because there were no issues with the equipment itself, the inventory is solid and some of the staff is nice.
Unbelievable prices
Best place to rent gear from. Huge selection and the staff are great.
Best rental prices for audio equipment I have ever seen. You could host a house party for an entire week for less than 150 bucks.Super helpful staff, very knowledgeable about everything.
When youre the best, you tend to be busy. Love the service and availability of different equipment, but please learn to be a little more patient with the customers. Sometimes I send a gopher to pick up stuff Ive speced, and the staff there isnt as patient with them as Id like them to be for my $450 rental! Yes, the screenwriter is not the engineer, but hes got good directions from me, and doing me a huge solid by picking up equipment.
My only complaint is their hours of operation. 11 am is crazy late to open and closing at 7 doesnt help either. Youd think they would stay open late on the weekends. I can remember three separate occasions when weve had busted gear past 7pm. Great staff.
Easy going and helpful especially for anyone who is not technical.
I am a long-time renter (more than 20 years!!), and they have repeatedly helped me find exactly what I need. If I have ever had a problem, they have fixed it. I understand that it is difficult if you are a first-time renter, but they are willing to let you take thousands of dollars of equipment out for rentals, so you really do have to prove who you are and where you live and work. Anyway, they make our theatre and productions really much better over and over again. So excited about the new north location. It makes all things possible. Thanks to the great staff!!!
I rented a karaoke machine for a party recently. It worked fairly well, but one of the cables occasionally disconnected (it didnt actually fall out, but it didnt function until it was readjusted). I mentioned this when returning the equipment, and RRR refunded the entire charge. Needless to say, I was very happy with the service! Highly recommended.
Fast, great prices, no deposit on a $500 Lavalier microphone. These guys have always been professional, reasonable, and accommodating. They even explained how to use the menu system and set gain on the system. I could have easily researched it and got the information myself, but they took the time to show many anyway. Ill keep renting my gear from this and the northside location as well.
The people here are great. I was always iffy on rental places but this place blew those worries away. I was clueless about how to go about renting as this was my first time doing so. The person I talked to answered all my questions and explained everything I didnt understand well. Overall I had a pleasant and satisfactory experience. To anyone unsure on where to go or what it do when it comes to renting for parties, I highly recommend this place!
Been coming for years so I owe these guys a huge five star. Love it
These guys work miracles. Its amazing that you can just walk in there, fill out a form and voila! Wanna try out some precious rack mounted recording gear before you buy it? Theyve got you. Having an event and need sound reinforcement, screens, projectors, cable, mics or lights? Theyve got you. How many business would trust their customers (musicians, no less) to check out gear valued in the $1000s?Sure, there are rules to follow. If one can put aside their ego and understand that the human beings behind the counter are doing their very best, everybody gets to walk away happy. In that way, R&R is not only a business, but also the best kind of social experiment.Ive been a pretty successful musician, composer and engineer in ATX with clients around the globe for more than 20 years and in that time, these guys have always taken care of me. I see some disgruntled reviews here and at the risk of speaking out of turn, I offer the following morsel of sage advice. If your time is far too valuable to endure a few minutes at a rental house, perhaps you should invest some of that value in purchasing the gear outright. Another option is to have your butler or houseman or intern or assistant rent it for you. If you cant afford the gear and dont have the aforementioned butler, houseman, intern or assistant, perhaps you need to get a grip, check your ego at the door and get in line with everybody else. You might even make a friend!Thank you Rock and Roll Rentals!
Called the Northern branch to ask a few questions about their equipment. Im sure they have other staff that are great, but the person who answered the phone seemed to be annoyed that I had called. Quick short answers and I was being questioned about why I had questions.
Best rental store for all your Audio and Music needs. staff is very friendly and offer recommendations to best suit your needs.
Rather youre in a band, a dj, a producer or a promoter, Rock n Roll rental is one of the best places to go for gear rental! The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and always willing to help make the magic happen! ^_^
This store is great and the personal are excellent.... 101%excellent customer service
They are always the best option for rent equipment. Do not hesitate and go rent it. Amazing customer service always willing to help.
Great for renting gear needed.
In and out and super professional. Amazing prices too
Very accommodating staff. They have the sound electronics we need. Always a pleasure to use them.
Best place for great gear and great service! Thanks guys for always being on top of it. And super knowledgeable!
Great service and curbside pickup
The pedal of the month club is an amazing value for money. The service is stellar. I wish they had a wider array of electric guitars.
Wonderful shop that has all the things you could need to put on a show
Theyve got everything you need for your next gig at a great price!! Ask for Dylan, he will take excellent care of you!!
Thx to Dylan who has always been very helpful and patient when I have a lot of questions.
Loved the gear but the reason I am giving them a 1 star is because the service was disappointing. I had a guy help me get a wireless mic he told me to fill out a form then when I was finished he took his break and just left. I had another worker ask me if I needed help I said yes and then he helped someone else. Then he said there are two people of front of me which came In after I did. Very disappointed in the poor service. Hopefully my next visit will be a little better.
