When we decided to replace our 17 Forester XT with a 21 Forester I called literally every Subaru dealer in the state. Out of the dealers willing to sell for under MSRP, Jay at Charlies quickly provided me with a quote that only one other dealer could get close to. Not only did Charlies stick to their pricing during the ordering process, but they bent over backwards to make the experience one we were pleased with. Further, the trade value for our car was $7k over what the Saco dealer was willing to pay. I cannot stress enough how polite, honest, straightforward, and easy the buying process was at Charlies.

Charlies has great service!! I had been searching for a specific car in a specific color and I initially went to a dealership 5 minutes away from me. I did not get good service. The gentleman was condescending and rude. As a woman, I had done my homework on what car I wanted and what features. As a result of my poor treatment, I decided to drive over an hour to Charlies to find the exact car I wanted. Unfortunately, when I arrived, they no longer had the model I wanted in stock. All they had was an upgraded model that was going to cost more money. You can imagine my disappointment. But Kyle, my sales representative, was able to get me the upgraded model for the same price. I just moved to Maine and they made the car buying experience so easy and stress free. I drove home that night with my new car and I am loving it!! SUBARU SERVICE DEPT. The service dept has to be commended for the attention to detail and courtesy that was extended to my wife and myself in trying to resolve an issue we had with a steering issue. We had bought a Certified Jeep only two weeks ago and it has been taken back a total of two times to have the steering wheel issue addressed. Subaru Service said they would do their utmost to rectify the issue. The vehicle was test driven before adjustments, and driven after adjustments and ended in a front tire rotation to assist eradicating the problem. Although not totally managing to completely restore it, ( steering wheel not being straight ) it was slightly better than it was before.

Had the worst service today ever from charlies subaru mechanics team. Dont think we will be back ever again and wouldnt suggest anyone else to go here. They have gone down hill. To have an early subaru appointment for an inspection easy right since they were just under your car a month ago and they had to fix tires they put on wrong and were leaking and ontop of that said nothing about sway bars or anything else being wrong at that time. Usually inspection take 30 mins 1 hr at most we had to wait two hours to just be told that somehow now our sway bars are bad and they are just finishing up and they refused to do alignment on my car which we requested because they didnt originally do it when the tires had to get fixed from their mess up, so they have been wearing out uneven and too fast. Ontop of that is the fact people even with vaccine can carry delta varient and the fact they dont make everyone where mask inside is ridiculous since we have a 11 month old.

I went in to Charlies Subaru service department to get an estimate for work I needed done on my Forester. I thought the estimate was way too high, so I took it to a second repair place. I got everything (parts and labor) done for just over 20% of Charlies estimate.Single women arent quite as stupid as the folks at Charlies seem to believe.

Kyle and Caleb were great. They were responsive and forthcoming. They were really willing to help with anything. I initially reached out to them through their website. Once we started exchanging emails I don’t think I had to wait more than 20 minutes for a response. I was able to tell them what I was interested in and why I needed it. They showed me what I thought I wanted and similar vehicles. They took the time to find what was most important (safety for my kids, comfort for my 6’4 husband) and delivered it. They also addressed ME instead of my husband! That was a wonderful thing as the car we bought is my daily driver/family vehicle. I would go back there no doubt.

Was on my way back to New York from Bar Harbor in my outback and started losing air quickly in my tire due to running over a nail. Was lucky to stumble upon Charlie’s Subaru. Walked in the service door and Ben was very helpful and quickly diagnosed which tire was the problem and was what needed to be done. They took my car right in and had me back on the road in about 30 minutes. They even checked my fluids and made sure my car was ready to roll on my 5 plus hour drive home. The Subaru owners of Augusta are very lucky to have such a great dealership with an all star team. Thank you so much!

BEWARE: Great sales experience but horrible service department! Bought my 2020 Subaru Impreza from Charlie’s at the end of February. The sales department was great, so I figured service would be good too. Recently, I began hearing this howling noise. Charlie’s service department got me in after a few days and they told me it was nothing but tire noise and that I had some slight cupping at 5000 miles. A couple weeks later, I just ended up at a different Subaru dealer in Auburn with the noise getting louder. Turns out, it was a faulty rear differential. Charlie’s made me feel almost as if I was making it up or that I just was completely over reacting. Auburn Subaru was beyond helpful and gave me a free loaner car to use while mine is in the shop. Charlie’s wants to charge $30 a day to rent one. Also, not one person was wearing a mask at Charlie’s. Auburn Subaru’s employees all had masks on. Never again, Charlie’s! If I hadn’t already ordered my remote start through Charlies, I never would have gone back again. To their credit, they did call me about my bad experience but it still was not enough to make me ever consider going there again.

Im glad to have a dealership relatively close by that I can bring my beloved Subaru Outback to for all her service needs. The auto service is good but I do miss the awesome customer service from my former Subaru dealership in another state. Sometimes I just feel like a number at Charlies and theres usually a push for additional services that arent necessary. This gives the impression that only my money, not long-term commitment to Subaru, matters. Ill continue as a customer because Im loyal to Subaru.

Don’t go to Charlie’s if you’re a woman! It is shocking the difference in how they treat women and men- even in the lobby! Just ONE example: I walked in with my friend and we literally had to ask for help and it seemed like the guy begrudgingly went out to find the exact car we came to look at. 10 minutes later and we wondered if they had forgotten about us.... a man walked in a few minutes later and got “Hello, sir! What can we do for you today?” from TWO different male salesmen. My friend wanted to come home with a car today- but we definitely won’t be bringing one home from there. I had also been texting with one of the sales people for 3 days- with NO response after their initial text. You people want to sell cars, right?What year is it, anyway?

Job ended up costing 4x what the estimate was. They wouldnt help compensate for the rental car that I had to have for a week longer than planned. Just gave me the run around when I tried to contact the manger. I was warned before taking my car here but I had to because of the warranty. Would NOT recommend

Ive purchased from Pape and Stanleys previous and both followed up by salesman to make sure I was happy with the car. Its been 2 months and Ive never heard from thr salesman again. Our attempt to turn in our leased Subaru and either lease or buy a new unit could not have been more difficult. Their best idea was for me to purchase the lease and then trade in the car to reach the purchase payment that I wanted. I was not given critical information about their deal, they would not allow us to turn in the Forester that day, they wanted me to pay for 4 tires, which should have been considered normal wear and tear at the end of a lease, and the finance person could not have been more rude. There was a complete failure at both customer service and usual courtesy. The deal was dead within seconds of my arrival.

I had some recalls on my car. In the past I used Bath Subaru. But now live closer to augusta so I used Charlie Subaru this time. When I went to Bath Subaru, I was given a rental car. I was able to do the things I had planned. However when I went to Charlies, I was given the choice to sit and wait or get a ride home. I had to find a ride to get my brothers car, to use that, and when I got to where I needed to be, my car was ready, so I just turned around and went back to get my car. While waiting for the shuttle to pick me up where I dropped my brothers car off, I waited 45min for them to drive down the avenue.. and they parked 3 parking lots away from where I told them I was, so i had to go find them.

Unprofessional sales team led by a rude general manager. A friend of mine attempted to buy a Forester today at Charlie’s and was met with rude remarks on the sales floor (said within earshot) and was mocked when she advised she needed more time to decide. I let her know to complain (as I would have), however, the remarks were made by the GM. There are PLENTY of other Subaru dealers in Maine - go somewhere else.

Drove two hours to get my 2016 crosstrek serviced and brakes worked on. I was told when I made the appointment that I could drop my car off on Sunday for it’s appointment on Monday at 2 pm and was never told to leave my keys in the drop box they apparently have. I left my car right next to the service door unlocked with the keys on the seat early Sunday morning and when I called Monday at 5pm to make sure the car was ready I was informed they never worked on the car because they had no idea it was there. The person I spoke to on the phone when I made the appointment told me that they would know I had dropped the car off early, so the miscommunication about the keys and the drop box could have been solved by a simple phone call asking where I had left my car. It was a complete waste of my time and a situation that could have been entirely avoided had there been better communication all around at this dealership

Purchased my car from here had just totaled my car and second purchase from Charlie’s, happy with sales person and process accept I didn’t get my title in time to do my registration ! so my plates expired and when I asked to have my plates extended they said yes as I had just totaled my car previously with a deer now the new purchase. Almost 10 days now I have the title numbers but plates are expiring and my town won’t be open and they refused after saying they would ... not pleased !! This means I will have to find a different way to work because if I do hit another deer I’m obviously not covered if not registered or driving on temp plates that have ran out which was recommended .... poor customer experience !

Purchased my Crosstrek here in July. The salesman and sales manager stayed late to help me seal the deal! I got a car I absolutely love and they were great! I would highly recommend them. They are the closest Subaru dealership I would trust to go to again... and I live between Ellsworth and Bangor. Its worth the extra driving.I also take a personal satisfaction driving past a Bangor dealership on my morning commute to work with a Charlies sticker on my Crosstrek.

I used to say that I would buy another Subaru vehicle based solely on the quality of the service department. That has changed. The work is still excellent, but beware of them coming up with lists of expensive things that NEED to be fixed right away. Always have your regular mechanic double check. We did, and of the six things that would have cost us $5,300, all we had to address was one thing that cost $450. We were not impressed!

When I needed a rental car, because my car was in their shop following a disagreement with a snowplow, Charlies dealt with the insurance company to insure that the rental *was* a Subaru. My experience at Charlie’s was top notch. I ran into a problem with the transmission in my Subaru Outback and wanted to take it to a reputable Subaru dealer. I made the right choice with Charlie’s; they gave me a comprehensive diagnosis and tried some simpler, less pricy solutions before it became clear that a more pricy repair would need to be done. They replaced the valve body for me, and were very knowledgeable having run into this same problem many times before (as a side note: any owner of a 2010 or 2011 Outback, please be advised that this is a problem you will run into if you haven’t already. If you haven’t yet or currently are dealing with it, do some research on your warranty and get the replacement ASAP. And have Charlie’s do it!). They kept me informed through the whole process and I felt that they were on my side the entire time. Now my car is running better than it did when I bought it used. Thank you to the service team at Charlie’s, and a big shout-out to Todd: you do a great job with the public and breaking things down for the layman, excellent work.

Finance lied to our face about available interest rates (saying the advertised rate was only available for a 3 year loan). We also let the sales desk talk us into turning our lease in early instead of having them take it in as trade. Turning it in two days early to give Charlies a May sale is going to cost us a few hundred in early termination fees.I definitely should have done my research first, but we definitely didnt leave this dealership with a good feeling, not to mention theyve stopped communicating with us at this point.

My wife and I went to get 60k mileage service done last month on her 2006 Forrester which included a tire rotation, lube job, oil change, new spark plugs, and differentials. After we picked the vehicle up when they were complete, we noticed a violent vibration in the steering wheel, and break petal when applying the breaks to stop. After spending a couple hours waiting for them to complete the service, we didnt have the time or patience to turn around, and complain to them that their technician had gone awry somewhere within the break pads/rotors to get to the differentials. Not to mention they charge $75/hr for what we considered to be terrible work.My guess about the rotors were affirmed later by a local mechanic who I had look into the problem. He told us the dealer technician had either used a metal mallet, or blowtorch to take off the rotors, and subsequently bent them. This is a rookie mistake, as rotors should be taken off with a rubber mallet to avoid this, and most skilled technicians would understand this. I cant say for sure, but I find it hard to believe they drove the vehicle out of their car lot, and didnt notice their error right away, and instead simply ignored the vibration leaving it for us to notice. Needless to say, I will never bring a vehicle to this dealership in my life, and would not recommend anyone else to do the same.Hi guys, just wanted to add an update on our terrible experience from last year. I had some work done recently on my wifes vehicle. Come to find out from my new mechanic, the spark plugs were never replaced by the Charlies dealership last year, although they charged us for it as part of the 60k service. Absolutely zero integrity coming out of this dealership - Hope everyone sees this before considering to have any work done there -

My husband and I were in Maine visiting family when our Outback started to leak oil. We called Charlies first thing Monday morning and they were able to get us in right away to assess the problem. Not only did they look at the car immediately, they fixed the problem (thankfully, nothing major) right away and the entire process took under 2 hours! They totally misdiagnosed my Subarus issue. I was told that my transmission needed to be replaced and I could drive home without doing irreparable damage to my car. Nope, I took it to 2 places in Portland, both who said it was never a transmission issue, but my turbo was falling apart and driving it home in this condition had totally destroyed my engine. I had to buy a new car and sell my old one for parts.

I got a call a few days later when I posted a FB review and was asked if i would change my rating ... I said NO... Augusta Maine customers should look elsewhere. Evergreen Subaru in Auburn was outstanding, Ive been to Pape in So.Portland with great results as well. I wouldnt recommend Charlies for Sales. While under a warranty for a used car purchased there, a thorough inspection of the car was requested specifically to make sure that the car was not starting any problems. Everything was great. The next month. the car was running funny and went to service is, not only was the problem solved but they also obviously noticed that there was a suspension part that was rusted through and falling apart. Cost of repair. About $1,000. Yes, it was under warranty but the warranty expired the month prior which is why I had them do a thorough inspection. The next year, the timing chain broke. Engine trashed. Car totalled.Oh, When was that? One month after the last payment, 6 months after the thorough inspectionNOT. HAPPY.Did I also mention 2 months after buying a NEW CAR from them they talked my wife into buying a dirt filter? $60.00 on a TWO MONTH OLD CAR!!???I HATE THESE THIEVES. Be AWARE AND CALL THEM OUT. THREATEN THEM IF THEY ACT INTIMIDATING. THEY DONT DESERVE A DIME BUT YOU KNOW THEYLL GET IT. SO MAKE THEM EARN IT WITH HONESTY.
