Ive known this shelter staff for many years since Im in rescue. They are VERY caring; each day most dogs get walked or have time in a play yard; theres a board that the volunteers mark when each has had their turn. In the afternoon, the dogs are given a giant stuffed Kong to help with alleviating boredom and stress. They work with manners training when possible, teaching the dogs to sit, etc for praise. Great people !
My son is allergic to the cat we got from here. It cost 130 dollars to adopt her...Now they are trying to charge me 140 dollars to bring her back? And people wonder why there are so many feral animals.
Mallory...is such a wonderful addition to the family
This pound for the unwanted. Is amazing. The employees are very friendly, they seem to rub off on the animals. Its a win win situation.
Called this morning to arrange bringing in a stray cat that has been coming and going around out home for a few weeks - I guessed about a month. This cat hurt our 15 year old cat so it cannot stay at our house. The woman at the front desk said I would have to pay $135.00 to bring it to the shelter! All because I guessed that the cat had been here for a month. I did not write down the date the stray cat came here.No wonder people are dumping their cats off in the country if they have to pay an outrageous fee to bring them to the shelter.Last night it was about 35 degrees out and this poor cat needs shelter and a good home, but the Placer County Shelter is no help. I mistakenly thought they were a shelter for animals that need help.
Great service and beautiful, clean facility. We had to turn in a beautiful dog about 2 months old for my daughter. She made the appointment but did not complete the paperwork. They accommodated us and helped us out instead of asking to get another appointment. Nice and courteous staff.
I fostered first and ended up adopting my sweet girl. Was so impressed with how clean and nice it is. Everyone is so kind. I decided to become a volunteer and become part of the team...
Very nice modern facility
I have been trying to call multiple times about a dead animal on the side of the road, was put on hold and was waiting on hold for a while, no one ever picked up, and twice the call was ended on me. I understand if they are busy but after multiple times it doesn’t seem professional.
Two pregnant cats were dropped at my hone. After kittens were born I was able to catch one mom and her four kittens. The others are still outside but we feed them. I had the mom spayed and due to all of the other cats we have rescued (11) we have no room left in the house. Also two of our cats are mean so we have to separate. I tried to take the mom and her kittens here but Leslie was very rude. She kept telling me that since I rescued them I would have to pay 135 for the mom and 135 for the kittens to surrender them. She then rudely asked me how many more I was planning on dropping with them. She said there is no way they would take the mom since she is so scared of people and that I should just let her go he feral. As for the other liter she said the same thing. For someone who is in an industry where you have to live animals and want the best for them Leslie sure didn’t. She was rude, questioned everything I said, chastised me and made me feel bad for wanting to bring the kittens in to get good homes. In the end she begrudgingly agreed to take only the four kittens but no mom cats or other kittens. I have decided against taking them to a place that doesn’t really want them. I will post locally and try to Find homes myself. Leslie doesn’t deserve these sweet babies.
They care beyond the doors. closing at nightTheir babysitting for emergency situations is the finest care for my boy Eziekiel. Thanks muchVikki
I am 14 and i have my younger brother and sister (8 and 10) and for some reason we are not allowed to look at the animals. All we do is pet them and give them company I really dont see problem with that. We walked from our house many times and one time they just yelled at us and said we cant be there. Its a good place for the dogs but they cant interact with kids without someone over 18.
One of the best animal control staff and the beat facility Ive ever dealt with. Staff are competent, friendly and helpful. They seem to be an honest to goodness public service agency, striving to do its job well.
I found a beautiful, sweet German Shepherd approximately 1 yo female running across traffic near 1-80 in Colfax today. Luckily I had a dog treat with me and she came right to me and into my car. Gave her some food and water as she was so thin and she was happy in my backseat. The problem was all other shelters were closed and I needed to find a safe happy place for her. Very reluctant to drop her at Placer County Animal Control until I spoke with the animal control officer Gonzalez on 3/25/17 @ 5 pm. He answered my questions and we decided it would be best if I took her to the facility . He was waiting outside for us, was very caring to her and assured me again that they make every effort to find owners - successful in 90% of cases. If not assured me she would find a good home quickly. Animal officer Gonzalez was the best, facility spotless, obviously cares great deal for comfort of animals. Thank you SO much. I know this beautiful dog will have a happy life!
The facility was beautiful. It is as good as you can have it when trying to hold animals for rehoming. The workers are all knowledgeable and caring. Im not sure how they found so many people that truly love what they do, but they did. The animals are extremely well cared for, and even relocated to another area when getting too stressed by all the visitors and commotion. I highly recommend a visit. You may go home with a new friend, or find you want to help in other ways.
Top notch facility. Years ago, not so great. Much effort went into design of this facility. Very clean. Many volunteers walk the dogs and make this place a winner!
Great place to donate your pets previous blankets, food, leashes, toys and dog beds! They appreciate it so much!
They are so helpful and nice there
Loved how much they cared about saving the animals life. I always thought something bad about animal control but after having my first encounter with seeing them care about saving an animals life and getting it a good home changed everything. I cant wait to volunteer at the new shelter. Thank you again
I have been trying to adopt a dog here for over a week now. The lady who is supposed to contact the foster home to make an appointment told us last Saturday we would be able to meet with the dog on Tuesday. She never gave us a time and told us she would give us a call back on Monday with a time. We called her three times with no answer and even went down to the shelter Tuesday morning to try and talk to her so we can adopt this dog. Still no response from anyone at the shelter. Very frustrated as I am trying to help by adopting a dog and no one there seems to care.
The volunteer was friendly but the rest of the staff was fat and very rude. The women behind the counter made the would be cat adoption unnecessarily difficult. My wife and i ended up leaving after almost an hour of nonsense. Bradshaw spca was far easier and had a much friendlier staff.
I surrendered my 1 year old puppy he was pit mixed with bully he was very loving but very hyper I had to get rid of him because I was moving to a place I could not have animals I really thought this place would teach him a little obedience & put him up for adoption but instead they mistaken him being hyper for agression my dog loved me & my daughter he was the sweetest dog I’ve ever had and knowing they put him down really hurts my heart he just wanted to experience life but apparently that got cut short I guess I really just paid for him to get him killed instead of find a new home I sure miss him & very sad he was so adorable he always hugged me & my daughter gave us kisses I don’t know how anyone could of look at him & do thisP.s not to mention the receptionist was very rude she did not make this process easy if I had a question she just looked at me like I was stupid I shouldn’t of taken him there after the bad feeling I got from her. Horrible. & for them to say they save about 94% of there animals why do they only have 6 dogs up for adoption? I can’t get over how they stereotyped my dog I wish I found him a home before taking him to this place they didn’t even keep him a full 30 days I wish this place goes out of business or finds more compassionate people towards animals
It looks like a few old shacks there very outdated, and kind of creepy theyre building a new one across the street that looks amazing and very modern so I hope it brings hope to those awesome puppies in need for a new home. I will update my review once the new place is up and running.
Beware of becky valdez, unprofesional,rude,condisending,self-rightious liar. we called on our cat, drove 30 miles to pick him up, she refused to release him. she refused to let me talk to her supervisor.she made up her own rules, lied multiple times.treated me and my daughter like we were criminals.refused to believe he was our cat until she got a credit card from my daughter.they made us wait a week.to add more charges. drove 30 miles back there in a week, finally got our cat, and as the young girl vet attendant, who was wonderful by the way,was explaining the medication dosage we were leaving with, becky valdez interupted, taking the medicine from me and our sick cat and saying we couldnt have it. eventually being over ruled by the vet.she was visably angered by this. at no time did i ever raise my voice,be rude to this woman.i still dont understand what her problem was,and i guess i never will. a terrible human being.
Wonderful modern facility for the animals and caring staff and volunteers.
Found it ridiculously difficult to actually meet a kitten. My husband and I trying to be responsible asked to meet and greet a kitten and were told a staff member needed to be present. However, everyone was out to lunch. We asked when we might return when someone would be available. We were told 2:30. Left and came back at 2:30, were told we could go in, waited 30 minutes and recieved no help.Being able to interact one on one with an animal outside its kennel is an integral part of the adoption process. Its sad to me that there was so little effort and assistance to get theses cats and kittens furever homes.
Not much help at all, wanted me to leave a baby kitten outside to find its way home...one who was obviously lost and not outdoors much...Ill find help elsewhere for this poor lost kitty...😞
Excellent facility with awesome staff
I just euthanized a dog that I had for 13 years, so in my search for a new companion, I decided to ck. the animal shelters in the greater Sacto. area. In my quest, I visited the Placer County Animal Shelter on B St., Auburn. Myself and my friend were appauled at the treatment we received. The people were not at all helpful or friendly and were actually rude when telling us we could not enter an area that housed stray animals. After being at several other shelters the same day, we were allowed to view ALL animals being housed (except sick or injured). It wasnt offensive that we couldnt view the animals, its the way a staff member actually yelled at us when we went to enter a room!! After explaining that we wanted to view the animals, we were told we needed to be escorted by staff. When no staff showed up to assist us, we left and vowed to never go there again. I ended up finding the perfect pup at the Sacramento County Animal Shelter, where the staff was friendly and helpful. I would recommend going to SCAS or SPCA before stepping foot in Placer Animal Control. They need to realize their job is to find good homes for the animals, not scare away potential parents~ They seem to be on a power trip......Good luck!
Its a wonderful place to come and see animals
