Surface world just installed new kitchen countertops for us and we couldnt be happier. They were very informative and helpful when it came to picking out countertops. Then they had someone out to do the measurements within 3 days. We scheduled the install the same day and it was done the same week. Everything was done very quickly and very well. The installation was very quick and they did an amazing job.

You know, when you live in a pretty small town being able to do major upgrades to your home with local businesses can be tough. You worry about volume pricing and workforce capability, so you go to the big city just knowing youll get a better deal. If you live in Athens, AL and you want to keep it local, then Surface World is where you need to go. For that matter, you folks in the big city might want to think about this little store on Hwy 72 in Athens. Why....Im glad you asked. The prices were great, the service was even better (yes, hard to beat service with a great price, but they did). I cannot even explain how much better our kitchen looks. If you want on time, on price, and on target to make your friends and family jealous of your new house, go see Jill and tell her John said hi while you look at samples and stones. Oh, I almost forgot....if you built or bought a house with stone tile and grout in the wet areas, Jills folks can fix that too. Nope, you dont have to believe me (but of course you should), just go and you can thank me by giving Jill your business and writing something like this.

Edited Jun 16, 2020, from 1 star review:As a repeat customer of surface world, my experiences working with Surface World and Jill sum to a 4 star experience.Our first interaction went great. It was a cookie cutter job, no frills and minor qualms. We actually worked with Jill directly in getting the quote and selecting material. There were some minor discrepancies in the billing. I highly recommend you double check your bill because due to rounding I was charged for more material than we actually purchased. After calling to speak to the company, it was concluded that this was due to way they measured and rounded then summed each piece. They did adjust the final bill to reflect the actual amount of material purchased. As a warning to anyone reading this, if due to human error or questionable business practices, be sure to double check your bill. Aside from this, our experience was great and thats why we decided to use Surface World a second time.Our second interaction was anything but typical though. We had just been robbed by a local contractor and were going through the court process to attempt to get our money back and we turned to Surface World to complete our kitchen. We selected a stone and a sink and put a deposit down on it. But due to the resulting legislation of the court case with the other company, it was ruled that we had to use the slabs from the other company, not Surface World. After speaking with Christy, who spoke with Jill, the owner, they told us they were willing to give us our full deposit back, minus the cost of the sink that was special ordered and we take the sink. Of course we agreed since we intended on using the sink.It wasnt until later, after multiple recurring court visits with the other company that we were finally, nearly 6 months from the date we started, able to get a kitchen. It was at this time that the sink was thoroughly inspected and found to be the wrong sink, even having our name spelt incorrectly on the side. Of course we reached out to Christy and Surface World, hoping they would be willing to trade the sink for the correct one but they refused and refused repeatedly. Refusing to accept that the error could have been on their end, despite our initial quote having the correct, Blanco, sink and matching strainers and the new invoice suddenly having a different sink, but the strainers for the Blanco as we requested repeatedly. After numerous interactions between myself and Surface World, that spanned well over a month, after repeated pleading, Jill finally agreed to meet us in the middle and give us a partial refund after having previously refused to budge, having an undesirable attitude towards it all, and even going so far as to hang up on me, while certainly souring my opinion of the company and owner.Edit: That said, anyone reading this far is thoroughly researching their options, or a business owner, and for that I commend you and hope you continue reading.Today, June 16, 2020, Jill personally reached out to me regarding this review after having read it. After we spoke for almost 15 minutes I must say she did garnish my respect back. While I feel my sink issue wasnt resolved as it should have been, as thats the nature of a compromise, I do appreciate her taking the time to reach out and speak with me. She did remind me of matters I failed to consider in writing my review initially while also showing a certain level of care and pride that I have to value and respect.For that, and all things considered, the customer care when an error has occurred would seem unsatisfactory in my second interaction. But aside from that, Surface World did try, both the first and second time. So my notes to any consumers, certainly double check your quotes and invoices to spot any errors before they occur if possible. Before Jill took the time to speak with me, I never wouldve returned to Surface World, but after speaking with her, I am willing to give Jill another chance.

I absolutely LOVE my quartz countertops from Surface World! They handled everything quickly and efficiently, kept everything extremely clean as well. Christy went above and beyond helping me with my backsplash and countertop choices. I highly recommend!

We recently had our granite installed by Rustic River and we couldnt be happier! They were very patient with me (I was very picky about my color, etc) and they never pressured me. My finished product is beautiful and I will use them again when I upgrade my bathrooms. Great business :) The Noles Family

Piss poor attitude.Edit: Yes, piss poor attitude. No one even approached the group to ask what was going on(since someone was clearly inside the property), or to relocate(which we would have done happily,) they just immediately called the police, wasting valuable city resources. You mentioned it was after hours, there should have been no problem then(there is no sign or indicator for no trespassing after hours,) unless you just have a PISS POOR ATTITUDE.Plus, my mother was actually planning to return the next day to get pricing on 2 slabs for a kitchen remodel(we would have never seen them if Pokémon didnt provide you with FREE advertisement) but decided against it after being run off.So for a business, my review stands.

Unable to wave freight charge for a truck that delivers every week. I work in bham and would not let me pick up from distributor. Seems like an added fee that is only for their profit. That truck shows up every week regardless of how many orders they have. Too bad I really liked the tile. Also plan on replacing tile in other 2 bathrooms. 75.00 is pretty steep for a truck that delivers every week.

When we went into the store the owners were in there, and they acted like their granite guys were the best. They were wrong. When the installers came with the granite we had just installed new hardwood floors. Instead of carrying the granite through the house they came in with one of the slabs on a cart, and the cart wheels left dents all in the floor, which I didnt find until later because I had a protective paper on the floor. Then the guys were trimming the granite inside the house, instead of taking it back out, which was nauseating. Since they didnt take it back out to cut it, I later found they had cut it crooked, leaving a 1/4 gap between the wall and the granite, and not the wall that required the backsplash, so now Im at a loss of what to do with that. I emailed the owner pictures of the marks on our floor, and she never responded. They also left my new stainless sink with streaks all in it which were impossible to get out with anything I tried, so they had to come back to get the streaks out. Bottom line..if a business has good business practice and accepts responsibility for things they do, they get good word of mouth..otherwise, Id never shop at that place had I known what they were like.
