Great place to live! 1.5 miles from downtown so a 20 min stroll. Inexpensive for all the amenities included like a cable, internet, power, water, trash, recycling, dog park, grills, tanning beds and furnished allbincluded in your rent. Great to not have to worry about normaly 8 different bills.

Price is okay considering that it is close to the school and the amenities are included in the rent, but dont live here unless youre a university student who is just looking to make memories partying. So many issues with my loud down stairs neighbors and nothing is done about it, even after filing multiple noise complaints to the APD within the past year. The people who live around here are often times in thee parking lot late at night being very loud. I have lived here one year and will not be renewing my lease.Edit: Updated and lowered to one star because the noise is still a constant and very obnoxious issue. Especially when I can feel the bass of the subwoofer in the apartment below me. The cops no longer respond to noise complaints and the managers at Verge are spineless and wont do a thing. Property owners only care about your money. Dont live here if you value peace and quiet. So glad ill be leaving this property soon. Pay too much in rent (more than 800 a month) for an issue like this to be as big of a problem as it currently is. I DONT NOT RECOMMEND THE VERGE

Great location if a UNCA Student-- not necessarily the place for the average person because the vast majority of residents are undergrad students. They allow pets AND theres a dog park! Love having my own bed and bathroom. Only improvement Id ask is the general cleanliness and upkeep of the apartments-- there seems to be damage done to walls and floors where it looks like a bandaid job has been done. I could fix up the apartment myself and it could look better... wheres the spackle?! ha! Paint on the walls is a bit cheep, as it buffs off VERY easily.Besides the cosmetic details to the apartments, overall the community is great!

The Verge is great for having a separate lease from your roommates and for being close to campus. Aside from that, its appears to have a fairly steep rent for what it is. With me and my roommates each paying over $600 for rent, this apartment is not worth $1800 a month. The ground floor always has issues with bugs. And everything is very cheaply made. This was fine when I needed something close to campus, now that Im not a student, cheaper and more quality housing is on my to do list.

TOWING ENFORCED!!! $225 to get your car back. The Visitor parking is not clearly marked in some areas. Be very careful about where your visitors park. They Will have your Car towed! Do not ask the resident where to park because they may not know. Be sure to read the signs and make sure you are in a visitor parking spot. All visitor spots are located at Both entrances.

Visitor parking is on the opposite side of the apartment complex as my friends apartment. If you dont feel safe walking 2-3 blocks in the middle of the night, they tow your car. If you contact them and encourage them to add more parking for visitors on the other side of the complex, they ignore your email.

Honestly dont move here unless youre 100% happy with who youre moving in with. And even then, consider going somewhere else. The management staff say they care about the community but the moment you have a complaint, they could care less. They overcharge you with everything from rent all the way to the early move out fee if you try to leave halfway through your lease. Which is the other thing, this place will completely screw you over if youre graduating in the fall. So if you finish school in December, please consider living somewhere else. They say they have a top notch roommate picking system but not once did I enjoy who I lived with. My room ended up just becoming a roof over my head to go back to after work and school. Thats the only reason Ill give one star. But even then I stopped feeling comfortable in my own living space when my roommate started to pick fights with me all because I didnt have time to sit down for a half hour+ conversation on a daily basis. They have an emergency after hours call center that wont do anything even if you call to complain about the room above you playing music so loud at 3am that it might as well be in your own room. I could continue with how once I had a package that the office refused to acknowledge that was there until I insisted on going back multiple times about it to retrieve it, I could continue with how theres virtually no silence with all the hipster party students and appliances, I could continue with every little thing that proved to be an awful living situation especially in my last year there. So save your sanity and mental health, just go somewhere else.

If I could give zero stars, I would.Lived here for 3 years... I moved into a “furnished” apartment where majority of the furniture there was broken. Upon moving out, I was charged more than $500 to fix repairs on things that were broken or very easy fixes. All repairs were way over priced and it was just an opportunity to nickel and dime college students.Terrible experience. I would not recommend.

They will help you through the entire process which is all nice except the lease terms are not flexible at all. If you want to release your lease to someone they gouge you for 85% of one month’s rent as a “fee”. They don’t miss rent on the month- the person taking over still has to pay or if they don’t pay all of first month’s rent, community fees, and application fees 5 days before the first they still charge you and make that person wait a whole month. All the while that room stays empty and paid for. That release fee is so much profit it sends shivers up my spine just to think about it- I know it doesn’t cost $500+ just to clean a 400sqft room. Not to mention the first floor rooms have bugs 8 months out of the year because they don’t have proper sealing around the ground level. They can’t even do anything for them, exterminator will come and tell you that- twice in a month. This is basically a measly step over a college dorm and even still I’ve seen higher quality dorms. Parking is terrible. Only good things are the price (which they threaten will increase so “you better renew your lease now!”), the location, the mini gym, the grounds are well kept, and once a week or so they offer free (cheap) food at the club house. Great for a 17 y/o college freshman whose parents are paying the way, not so much otherwise

If you get a random bad roommate, which is more than likely considering the demographic of Asheville, youre basically stuck with them considering that breaking the lease is unheard of. You have to pay 185% of rent to do so which is like 1000 dollars and you have to get the carpets cleaned on your own dollar. I got a bad roommate and moved out 2 months before my lease ended and paid both months. I will never forget this place. The staff are kids like you and I and cant really help you with anything and the managing staff that is older is a bit apathetic unless you complain to them consistently which can be tedious. This place is overpriced dorms and the amenities arent much. The dog park is a joke, the gym is too. . . The only nice thing is that there is free food every once in awhile and you get your own bathroom.

I’ve worked at The Grove Apartments for about a month now, and I also live on site. I’ve heard some rumors about The Grove and always believed them until I came here. I’ve been shocked by how things truly are here. The stigma doesn’t hold ground when you actually give it a shot. I’ve found an awesome group of people to work with that not only care about their jobs, but about the people who live here too. Maybe there have been bad times in the past; however, I can only speak on what I’ve seen. I’ve met some incredible people that have become close friends. The environment that The Grove is perfect for college students and young professionals! The Grove seems to always be holding a different activity to bring people together. Whether tie-dying, going to ball games or just playing corn-hole, there’s always something going on that allows me to meet new people. Despite what others may have said, the staff on site really care about their residents and we try our best to accommodate to everyone’s preferences.

There is also a ridiculous 700 dollar fee to move out early, even if your lease hasnt started for the next cycle. Dont come unless youre out of options.

Please, if youre considering moving into the Grove, dont. The only reason it isnt rated at a 1 star is because they have employees on here trying to boost the rating.Ive had trouble with the Grove since the second I moved in. I moved in during the summer because I was attending summer classes and on campus living was so expensive. I had plans to move in with a friend but she wasnt going to be there until August. The apartment and roommates I lived with were disgusting. Maggots, rotting food, animal poop, and a fly infestations were the immediate concerns but when an employee walked me through they deemed it livable. Anytime I went down to the office to try to take care of the bug problem they just told me to put out apple cider vinegar. I stuck it out for the rest of the summer and didnt leave my room.Once my current roommate moved in and I took responsibility for cleaning everything out, things got a little better. But since moving in there has been a shooting, a drug related death, my headlight was stolen (filed a report but nothing came from it), a pipe burst, and there was carbon monoxide poisoning. I unfortunately was one of the people who was poisoned and spent a day in the hospital for it. Missing both my classes and work. But the Grove doesnt seem to care if you have a near death experience caused by them. In fact, the generator that caused it never got removed but just put out in front of the building. When talking to the higher ranks about it they pretty much said that sucks but we arent letting you out of your lease. How the Grove is still allowed to operate and advertise as safe, college living I will never know.

Every time I go in to the club house and ask anyone at the front desk a question. They look at me like Im stupid for asking the question or give me some bs answer. You would think they would want to treat us (the people that live at the Verge) with a little more respect when it comes to having questions. If I would have known what I know now before signing a lease I would have not signed. They say they are trying to change but I dont see it. I have been to housing projects that have better customer service than this place. If youre thinking of moving in, dont. Run far, far away.I thought when I moved in here that this would be the perfect place to live while I finished my college degree, and instead its been a nightmare. Most of the tenants are young college kids whose parents pay their rent. They are disrespectful, loud, and many of them use drugs. There was a drug-related armed robbery in one of the buildings a few weeks ago. Beer bottles get shattered on the sidewalks on a regular basis and the management takes forever to send people to clean up the messes. I have many, many pictures of the disgusting state of the grounds here. There have been smashed watermelons and pumpkins left to rot, porcelain pottery thrown from balconies, and other ridiculous things. The office will change their hours without any personal notification. They send emails out asking to renew your lease, but they never send out emails for important information residents need. All of the bicycles and scooters people used for transportation had their locks cut by the management because of a fire hazard and they will not be reimbursing people. They also have a towing company come to tow vehicles on a regular basis, and if you dont have a sticker on your car theyll take it and force you to pay a couple hundred bucks to get it back. There isnt enough parking for residents, so be prepared to walk a ways to get to your car.The buildings must have been constructed out of rubber bands and bubblegum, because even in my apartment on the second floor I can hear residents on the fourth floor. The walls are paper. If you arent a sound sleeper you wont have a solid nights sleep. Ever. The neighborhood is not very nice. Kids regularly show up to try to steal bikes. Panhandlers bother residents for money. Some people even tried to steal my dog once. Its like the wild west, but there isnt any John Wayne to keep order. They havent been able to keep a general manager on staff for more than a few months since I moved in a year ago. Please do yourself a favor and live somewhere else in Asheville. This place is horrible. You may think, Eh, whatever, I can handle it. But seriously, when youre up all night because your neighbors are on drugs, blasting dubstep until 4 AM, and then you go outside and your cars been towed and the office is already closed (despite their posted hours saying theyre supposed to be open) youll wish you listened to me!

I was overcharged for several months of rent. They bill for utility over usage without representing the overages, The location is convenient, and I found most of the staff very pleasant, however if any issues on your account are found, you will first be blamed, until YOU provide proof of the errors they have made. Worst of all, they just try to be as difficult to deal with as possible, I have asked over and over again for the CORRECT balance that I owe, and have not been able to receive a response, they WILL NOT respond to anything that is emailed to them, which is typically the action of a guilty party that does not want evidence of their misinformation or blatant lies used against them in a court of law. Also, I suspect the Five star reviews they have on here are planted from employees, and they still have a dismally low rating. I have not spoken to anyone else who has lived in these apartments, or knows someone who has lived in these apartments, that has had a good experience with this company. All it would have taken by this company to keep this issue from escalating would have been communication, if they were not able to correct the errors like they said they were, or needed more time to correct the errors that could have easily been rectified before the situation escalated simply by emailing me, calling me, or putting a letter in my mailbox politely asking for a little more time. That would have made all the difference, instead the issue continues to escalate, and may even result it litigation. It is shame that I am having to leave this review... I am not an internet troll and do not give poor reviews if they are not deserved (as a matter of fact, I almost never give poor reviews to anything), but in this case The Grove Apartments gets one star for being incredibly difficult to deal with, non-communicative, and a huge added amount of stress for me, in a time in my life when I need it the least. (P.S. I also had to report the business to the BBB for the overages to my account, and lack of assistance getting it worked out.)Update. I havent lived there for a couple of years. Found on my credit report today a 7,000+ rental recovery charge for a error they made, a lease they broke.

This is a great place to live. Rental rates cant be beat for the amenities. You will be sharing the living room and kitchen with a roommate but youll have your own bedroom, bathroom and walk in closet. The staff is good at matching roommates but theres always room for error and you could get a roommate from hell. The maintenance guys are quick to respond to work orders, and the office staff are always friendly and eager to help with any issues that arise. I did have one roommate who was very childish and immature, and her complaints were highly exaggerated. Her boyfriend was here almost constantly and taking over the common area as if he was paying the rent. I finally complained and that matter was handled immediately. It’s much better now that I have another roommate!

The apartment themselves aren’t bed. Management is terrible and does not do anything in concerns to you. Because you have roommates that are assigned at random you do not know who you are living with. Last year my roommate was there for 6 months and then moved out when someone moved in in her place automatically. Lived there almost a month and we ended up with her boyfriend living there on the weekend, a friend living on our couch, and a pit bull that was not registered in the apartment. Made inquiries and she was not suppose to be there. This year my roommate moved out after the other one made threats to her because her dogs got out (which neither are registered), couldn’t get them back into the apartment, and eventually told the office that they were running around. Even with this management told her that they could not evict the threatening roommate. Same roommate has not registered their dogs still and one goes after and attacks my cat. Reported this to management twice and they have not done anything. My former roommate also made several complaints to management. Called the office because they told me the courtesy office would contact me. They did not know what I was talking about with the reports. Even if you have issues with your roommates and make several reports, there is nothing done.

Found black mold in our AC, management refused to replace it until the new leasing term, which was when I moved out. First floor felt like a cave, frequently see local tweakers walking around outside. Decent place if you have no other options, never enough parking if you get home after 9pm, but my rent was ~$580. I lucked out and didnt have insanely loud neighbors, but could hear plenty of poor souls who did when walking from the far parking lot to my building. Dumpster was always overflowing, trash everywhere. Maintence workers are good people. The 24hr gym was nice, and never busy. Wasnt always reliably told when a package had arrived for me. The real sin was the AWFUL carpet, dark grey tile carpet that STAINED my feet and socks black the first few months I lived here. AND I had to pay to have the carpet professionally cleaned when I moved out. Ridiculous, as Im hoping they replaced it when I left for the sake of the next tenant. Not the worst place to live in north AVL, but I would not recommend living here unless you really like reminding yourself what a dorm is like. Best for students who dont care and just want to be near campus.

The staff, maintenance crew, and property management have been very helpful in during my 2 yr lease term; actually no problems to complain about staff wise. Police patrols recently through the apartment complex have been making seem safer as of late; if there was ever an actual emergency UNCA PD/APD could respond quickly. It isnt the best apartment complex by any means; areas like parking, trash/broken bottles (left by people partying late in the night; idea? Trash cans placed on property for people to throw away trash/recycling?), lack of amenities (no pool, bb court, tennis court etc. only a grilling area, pool table, exercise/yoga room, and mini game room and a computer room), cheap furniture that gets reused by multiple tenants (my apartment couch, table and chairs never got replaced even when damaged) and rent for a bedroom in a 3 bdr apartment is a bit pricey for what you are getting are all problems in my honest opinion. Good things to note about the apartment complex is that its off the interstate. It is close to; the bywater, salvage station, downtown lex ave, near north Asheville, Harris teeter in walking distance if needed, location is across UNCA and close to ABtech (10-15mins).

The Verge is a horrific place to live. Firstly, the staff is very close minded. They have just recently diversified their staff; for years, their staff consisted of white rednecks who judged and gossiped about all their tenants as well as behind one anothers back. Secondly, when matching roommates, they dont take your personal interests in mind. As long as they are being paid, they dont care about matching roommates properly. Most of the residents are fellow students like me, but most of them are druggies and partiers. If you are serious about your studies, The Verge isnt the place for you. Thirdly, parking is always complicated, and if you come home late from school or work, you have to park far away as it is first come first serve parking. The parking spaces are not assigned and because the residents have so many visitors, boyfriends and girlfriends visiting, residents never have a place to park. Because there is a bad and questionable neighborhood behind the complex, residents often see druggies walking through the community. Fourthly, they have have had carbon dioxide problems, drug overdoses etc. People are lazy and dont care about the property. The stairwells are always filled with trash, beer cans, marijuana butts and cigarette butts. It truly is a hell hole. Yes, they have free internet and cable, but the apartments are dated and filled with cheap furniture.

The setups for the different rooms are quite nice and I actually love how they provide you basic furniture and even a desk. The community events were great, such as free pizza and sometimes they would do holiday themed events. Personally I always found the staff helpful or at least they would try to help me with any issues I had. The location is great because I never needed a parking pass for the UNCA campus and its literally right across from it and the botanical gardens, and even a newer greenway area (not to mention a relatively short distance from downtown). The gym that they have provided me with everything I needed and you couldnt ask for better treadmills!I wish I could say I loved it but honestly the place isnt exactly perfect due mainly to careless residents (past and present) and some of the company policies. The policies will extremely irritate and wry at you if you dont THOROUGHLY read everything in the contract the saids what you can do, what you cant do, what they do for you, and some surprising things they dont do for you might have expected them to do; again THOROUGHLY read that contact if you dont want any nasty surprises or a hefty fee charged. *One you should probably know is that you have to get your carpet professionally cleaned before you move out and provide them with prove you did or youll end up like me two months after I moved and theres a $100 carpet cleaning bill in my mail.Still, overall it wasnt even half as bad as people warned me nor half the cost of living in any other apartment complex even with the fees. I know other residents have not had as nice a time as I have but it is possible to really like living here, you just have to make it your home and not have too many high expectations.

I have lived at the Verge going on four years and Ive definitely gotten my moneys worth. The Verge offers one of the lowest rates in Asheville an is ideal for UNCA, AB Tech and other students. A shuttle is offered to UNCA and these apartments are located less than two miles from the heart of downtown Asheville. The complex is geared toward students so it can be a little noisy on big weekends such as homecoming but security features an on site detective an ensures a safe and beneficial living space. From my experience most problems tenants have are quickly and easily solved by management.
