Seemed like very nice people but not much effort towards evaluating my merchandise

As a first time consignee with Brunk Auctions, I was highly impressed with the level of service that was provided to me as a potential client. Within just a few days of submitting my photos online, I received an email from their Chief Specialist asking me to bring my item in for further evaluation. I then called their office and was given an appointment for the very next day with Laura Crockett. I was already aware of Ms. Crockett’s reputation as an appraiser on the Antique Roadshow TV series and was thrilled to be meeting with her. I found her to be both knowledgeable of the subject matter and professional in the way that she conducted our meeting. I especially appreciated her willingness to answer all of my questions and her patience in helping me understand the process. I’m glad to say that I left our meeting feeling confident that I had chosen the right auction company to handle my consignment.

My husband, Jim and I bid on two items at the William Banks Jr. auction, September 12, 2020 and were lucky enough to purchase them. When we drove down from our home outside Cleveland, OH, to pick up the items, the personnel were very friendly and professional. They were very welcoming. We purchased a painting at Brunks November 21st auction and had them ship it to us. It just arrived in perfect condition. When I spoke to them I was treated with courtesy and any questions I had were answered patiently.

As a newer resident Asheville (4 years), Discovering Brunk Auction House has been magic! For me, a lover of all things art and art history, going into Brunk for an auction is like going into an art gallery. Always knowing that you will be warmly greeted, and that you feel like you belong there ...even if you might not be a serious investor or bidder. The only “problem“ with that is that you feel so comfortable that you actually start bidding and selling... haha! Which is what happened in my case. I have met some lovely folks at Brunk, acquired some wonderful pieces, and recently sold some things through them as well. The fact that I live in the same town as this international auction house is just the coolest! There is something for everyone at Brunk. and it’s so much fun to participate.

Going to Brunk Auctions is like visiting a museum. My children even enjoy it! Their publications are also beautiful and I love watching the online auction sales.

This place really surprised me in a very good way. It is a family business basically in the second generation. They do a great job. We were pleasantly surprised at the huge variety of quality fine and decorative arts being managed. Watched very rare and very old paintings furniture and maps auctioned. Asheville is lucky to have this business here!!

We have been selling at Brunk for several years now and have been thrilled with all our auction results. The staff is always so knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. Everyone is very professional and we receive our proceeds without worry. If you have a high end item and are uncertain on their ability just check their past auction results on their website. You won’t be disappointed.I read through prior reviews, don’t let a few unhappy buyers deter you from using Brunk. There are always going to be people out there that are unhappy no matter what. Buyers premiums are a part of every auction. Same with shipping, if you don’t want to pay high prices complain to the post office not the auction house.

Poor pre-auction customer service. Called to speak to a specialist about a painting for 2 weeks prior to the auction. I was told condition report is posted online, they had no other statements. When I asked if I could come and examine the artwork in person, I was told they would not take the piece out of the frame, the piece was under glass. How can one be expected to bid on a $30,000-50,000 watercolor with ANY assistance from their staff? I was willing to travel 8 hours to look at it in person....but all I git was NO, NO and NO. I have been collecting for over 40 years and have never had such an experience with any other auction house. Will never purchase with them again.Now, they want me to call to discuss their customer service. Where were these people when I was interested in bidding and buying. Sorry I have already wasted several hours calling, calling and calling before the auction!!! You should have had better customer service before I posted by review.

Biased auctioner. Does not honor the bids. They will give your item to the regulars instead of honoring your winning bid. Shipping is times the retail. Im done buying from this dishonest auction house.

I used to respect Brunks as an auction house. So much so that I sent them some pictures of items Id wanted to have sold in one of their auctions. These were very high quality, period pieces worth thousands of dollars even in todays beaten down market. After waiting a few weeks to get a response I was finally sent one with a We are sorry but we just arent interested in these items. Now I have been to multiple auctions at Brunks and even purchased items from more then 1 of their auctions. So I now the quality of items they sell. My pieces would have been some of the most prized items in any of their auctions yet they were turned down? I have followed their auctions for years now and seen the quality of items they sell slowly diminish over time and thats probably because they treat potential customers poorly and are very pretentious. Do yourself a favor and find another auction company to sell thru. Maybe try somewhere like Case Antiques in Tennessee. They actually responded to me within hours and were thrilled at the opportunity to sell what I sent them.

Would not recommend trying to buy online. Tried to purchase several items. Every time I get a fair warning twice that I am about to win, then another bid comes in, no fair warning, auction ended before I could bid again. I know it’s not my internet. Never had problems at any other auction house online. Might be because they are on three internet services. I used their personal live bid with no luck. Very disappointed in not getting personal items for home. Also, looks like a great place to sell your items, prices are very high.Second experience, This time I tried bidding online and I didnt get a bid in, even though I am constantly hitting bid. Auction closes for less then what I would have payed. They have issues with their internet bids. Never have these problems on invaluable or Sothebys website.

Potential buyers beware, Brunk Auctions is a renown auction house for having a great variety of selections... but item description is not always correct. They may describe overall excellent condition and it matches the images shown, although failed to mention obvious damages & photos of such. When obvious damages are not mention/pictured it seems as if either the one who describes/pictures the lots are not paying proper attention or are purposely failing to mention it. The buyers premium is listed on their website & is rather high compared to competitive auction houses such as Leland Little & Jeffery S. Evans & associates which also carry quality items & provide a friendly staff. Speaking of staff, good business is not conducted through transparent & rather rude employees. Telling customers to mind where they walk whilst they wait to pay the clerk does not set anyone onto good terms.

I purchased a large painting from them through LiveAuctioneers and was very happy with the speed for which the auction was conducted. They went slow enough to give the online bidders time to get their bids in. I had terrible experiences with other online auction companies that move to fast for online bidders and I have missed out on items because of it.The painting arrived just as described and they use an in-house UPS Store to pack and ship the items to winning bidders. I was amazed at what a great job the UPS Store did in packing the painting. They did a great job in protecting the painting and the box was about twice as wide as other shippers had used to send me paintings.The only complaints I have are that that their buyers premium of 28% was higher than other online auction companies I have purchased from. The other thing is that they hit you with a 3% penalty if you pay with a credit card as most people would with a larger ticket item purchase like mine. Other than those fees, I was happy with everything and would buy from them again.

One of the highest buyers premium and shipping charges were outrageously expensive. Please consider before bidding on Brunk Auctions.

Buyer Beware. We bought a vintage Rolls-Royce from Brunk Auctions and the transmission went out the day we bought it. It was described in their catalog as being service conducted by authorized Rolls-Royce technicians since purchased in 1986. Upon speaking with the only authorized Rolls-Royce technicians in North Carolina-they stated that they have never serviced the car and Brunk did not include any service records when we picked up the car. We gave them the opportunity to fix the car and they have not responded to several emails and calls. They advertise themselves as being well known for their integrity and professionalism but I beg to differ. There are many reputable auction houses out there-and I would seriously think twice before purchasing or consigning an item with Brunk. Unfortunately, it is always when something goes wrong that you discover the true integrity of a business and they have handled themselves in the worst imaginable way.
