Large area be sure to pick up a map before you go to keep your bearings. Went on a weekday afternoon, seems to be two sections separated by the tracks. I started on the upper side away from the river. Found it was easier to move the car to see everything. There is a lot of walking and was plenty of free parking. Many of the building have multiple floors with multiple studios on each floor. Some spaces are shared. Dont expectspotless clean well maintained areas, that is not what this art district is about.I read reviews where people said the studios we closed or artists rude. On the upper section most all were open and most all artists welcomed me and encouraged questions. I had conversations with many artists and found none rude. Most of the art is painting/drawing followed by ceramics then wood and glass. Took a couple hours at least to see the upper section. Then moved down to the Riverview station on Foundry street. There I did find a number of the studios closed but it was after four in the afternoon.I have posted just a few pics of the many studios I went in so not sure where the reviewers went that said there was no art. To see everything at a quick pace would take about a day hours. As to prices they vary, there are small items in small studios in $20-30 range. In larger studios a small giclee may start at a few hundred dollars. This isnt Pier One.One thing that struck me is that while good art is in the eye of the beholder I didnt run across any studio where I though they need to find a new profession. While I may not have liked everything I saw I could appreciate the skill taken to create it.
Very friendly artists and wonderful exhibits. It was great to see such a diverse set if skills featured and on display. Since it was so close we took a quick walk down to the river from there once we had our fill of the galleries. The only thing that would have made it better would have been additional dining options in the area.
It looks colorful and artsy because of the pictures online..but keep in mind the artsy stuff and sculptures are few and far between..but when put side by side online it seems bigger and nicer than it actually is..Ill be nice and give it 2 stars. We were in town and online the river arch district looked like a pretty big deal. We eventually found a map which Ive posted a picture of. We walked all the areas in the Mao. Most were closed despite saying they opened at 11. We found a few that were open after walking veeyr direction for an hour. The ones we found were little hippie painting shops. A few paintings hanging on the wall. One place we found lady was making figurines but thata about it. It definitely seems like like was played up more online, unless we missed something. There is a park by the river id you like to ride run or tak your kids down there to hang out. But other thank that there was not much to see. I would be back to this area, honestly feel like we wasted a good portion of our day here when we could have been exploring some of the mountain areas nearby. As for parking, there is free parking everywhere and designated lots for the arts district so no issue there. Some areas seemed sketchy. If youd like to rent a bike to go around there is a guy who sets up a stand and rents them...when we saw him he was sitting there brushing his teeth at his rental booth...maybe he sleeps there? :DI hope this images and maps are helpful. We also saw one resteraunt down there that seems pretty popular..vivans..looks like they had a brunch variety
The River Arts District was so much fun! It was really interesting seeing all of the different interpretations of art, and you can pass through the park by the river. Its beautiful. ❤️
Walked around part of the district. Very colorful buildings painted with graffiti art. Went into the woodworking studio which had beautiful furniture, cutting boards and other wood items. Also found building with many small art studios inside. There were some artists with great paintings and photos for sale.My one gripe is that there ought to be a map/brochure that identifies what is where so you can plan your visit. Otherwise you have to randomly wander around. We didnt get far because of the heat.We did enjoy the art we saw. The district provides a great service/venue for local artists.
Great area in Asheville. Regeneration of some of the old buildings is great to see.Interesting art and some of the artists are in working during your visit. We were there on a Sunday, so quite a few of the studios were not open. It’s a great place to spend some time outdoors, walking to the studios. There is a great brochure that you can pick up, with the artists listed and a map.
We recently went on vacation and visited River Arts District in Asheville and it was amazing! We walked thru the studios and had so much fun looking at all the art. There is one artist Jonas Gerard that really piqued my interest... And his studio is absolutely incredible and a must view if you ever happen to find yourself in the area! He does have two studios.. I viewed his newer one. ❤️
There are many artists - paints, glass, pottery, definitely worth viewing and stopping to see the creativity of so many people. There is great walking paths nearby as well. Additionally, I would recommend the coffee shop Grind.
Put on your walking shoes and prepare for an afternoon of exploring art and artists who create them. Every place we visited had artists who were happy to talk to you. Tons of talented people, with very reasonable prices. A must for anyone who visits Asheville.
Love the graffiti every where . Very dóg friendly. Only down fall is all the hómless bums
Dont stay at radview. Rooms always hot
We visited on a Monday mid-morning and although its a cool area, there was VERY LITTLE open or much going on. This area is probably better to drive around, as there is a ton of great street art...but its a bit spread out. I heard that Saturdays are big, so that may be a better time to visit or perhaps in the evening when more restaurants and bars are open.
This is the best arts district we’ve ever seen. Tons of places, with and without artists on site. Some were even painting while we were there. A great area to explore, eat, and even walk, run, bike, or boat on the river.
Seemingly endless galleries and studios. Some of the best pottery Ive ever seen. If you like art, make it part of your trip.
We went on a weekday, & not all shops & studios were open. We really enjoyed the places that were. Wonderful art. Also it is billed as handicapped accessible, & about 1/3 of the places were not. Lots of gravel & uneven pavement.
Neat way to spend the afternoon. Artists are on site working. The artwork is for the top tax brackets but to wonder around is a fun afternoon.
Good place to visit in summer! Scores of folks floating down the French Broad river in all manner of rafts and kayaks and SUPs. Good eats from food trucks and beer barrios nearby. Arts, etc. What more can you want?!
Pretty decent place. The artwork was great and the studios were a good escape from the city. Go if you have some time on your trip, otherwise skip.
What a unique collection of shops spread over several streets in the River Arts District! We saw glass being made, sculptures welded, paintings, pottery being made, just about any kind of art you can think of, and some I have never heard of, exist on these couple of streets. Most of the artists are in their shops and willing to talk with you about their technique and their thoughts. They were informative, they were friendly, and even if you didnt buy something! If you enjoy seeing unique works of art of all forms, you will like the River Arts District.
Cool place and pretty parks, awesome art
Im hardly impartial-- my studio has been in Pink Dog Creative for the last 4 years. The Arts District is a very creative place, with many amazing artists. Come check us out!
River Arts is a must visit district when visiting Asheville. Go to The Wedge for beers and an interesting food truck bite! And visit all the interesting artist studios and relax with a cup of coffee at Summit, or other numerous places to hang out. Then walk about 1 mile from there and you are in the heart of downtown Asheville or South Slope breweries. This place is evolving and getting better all the time!
Support local artists in Western NC. The River Arts District is full of great shops filled with local art. You get a great accent piece for your home and the artists here get the help they need to continue to revive this great arear
The thing about Asheville is they have Numerous spots around the city like this .Just park and walk.Great for shopping. So many Art galleries and shops. The pickiest people can always find something .
Beautiful development in this area to promote outdoor enjoyment in Asheville. Every time I visit more has been done and I really look forward to seeing whats new. Hope to take advantage of the bike paths.
All the artist were very nice there studios were very nicely displayed. The city of Ashville needs to invest in some landscaping and just cleaning/powerwashing the sidewalks.
Theres a lovely paved trail along the river great for walking, running, and biking.
The nicest part of Asheville! Clean and eclectic! The only thing is that it was a little confusing as to what you could go into and what you couldn’t...
Enjoyed walking through the all the galleries. Be aware that many galleries are closed on Sunday. The map on the website can be a little deceiving in terms of the distance between the different sections.
Great place to visit!! Watch artist work on pieces while you shop.
Amazing inspiring district full of artists workshops and galleries, you can grab some food, beer or coffee here in the area as well . Just really cool revitalization of the industrial area into an art destination
When visiting Asheville you visit the River Arts District. Can pretty easily spend most of a day just in this area especially if you have lunch at the brewery. Lots and lots of shops. Very friendly artists makes it a great experience
Cool place! Lots of cool art. I feel like there was something for everyone. Also less crowded than downtown asheville if you want to get away from the large crowds for a bit.
So many talented and gifted artists within minutes walk of each other!!!
An almost unbelievable array of artists using a wide variety of media are located in this growing art district! Just completed my second visit and still have not seen it all. Plan to visit and revisit anytime youre in the Ashville area.
We enjoyed our visit. Spent about an hour browsing art. Interesting artists. Good variety. About 20% were closed.
Very chill place. So chill that the birds aren’t afraid to walk around amongst the people
Loved it. Cant wait to come back!!!!
Very cool galleries
The River Arts District in Asheville North Carolina is a place youre going to want to spend two or three days going through. There is no way you are going to go through every shop in the matter of one or two days. Inshort, it is a destination. If you can imagine an art or a craft, someone in that area is probably doing it. There is great food every place you go. There are campgrounds to accommodate most everybody. And a lot of the graffiti you cant really call graffiti theres actually some great artwork on these buildings. That alone is worth going to see. We spent three days there and wondered had we missed anything? Probably, the worth another trip back.
Very calming to sit at the side of the river and just gaze at the surroundings.
Love this place around there 😍
Fun to walk the shops and see all the great creative items
Was looking forward to seeing all the creative artist items that with the gas issue going on in North Carolina and was told that the arts section didnt open really until Thursday and we were there Tuesday kind of disappointing
Easy walking from shop to shop with plenty of places to stop and rest and get a bite to eat.
Neat place to visit while in town.
Good beer, shaded outdoor seating, food truck! 20+ taps!
Ahh its a artsy river. What can ya do
Its was nice to walk around and see the galleries.
One of my favorite places in America.
Tons of great art studios and coffee shop like places
Very awesome area to visit in Ashville, NC
We avoided the meal lines by ordering it and eating at picnic tables by the river. Not posting pictures of people tubing for privacy reasons but it was a rare combination of joyous quiet spot and plenty of parking!
Modern art, modern clothes, other Riverfront...old warehouse district....
Body oder, cigarettes, and stale beer smells-not worth the hype.
Wherever you look around this area you fill yourself with art
Excellent. Some shops closed due to 4th of july
Visited several times throughout our vacation in Asheville. We walked around midweek (Weds / Thursday midday) and on the weekend (Saturday late AM). So many studios were closed, eventually causing us to get frustrated and leave! Even when studios are open artists were rarely there. This was one of the things we were most excited to see and honestly it was a bit of a letdown.
Great variety of artists and their creations!!
Nothing like the river Arts District for fun or for business a lot of opportunities going on in this area for people in the construction remodeling industry great food at 12 Bones good beer at the wedge and coming soon to pleb Winery just several places to entertain kill time at the antique shops take a look at the French Broad River just right around the corner from the historic Biltmore Estates property matter fact you can put a canoe in there and Coast right by the Biltmore House you got to try this place out
Great place to visit and Jordan was an exceptional tour guide.
Lots of stuff to set out on adventure in this area. We did find a few places open after 9 mo of covid lock down but the number of people all wanting to get outside made this area very crowded, good for those that are open and we applaud them and tried to support them with purchases but after a1 hour wait for a 🍻 we decided to try some place else. Give the area a try and support the shops that are open. We think they will figure out how to operate with the crowds and this may be one of the great areas to hangout and relax or kick off your new adventure. Be safe and give us like if are happy this area is open. We know we will be back.
Great area to walk around and pop into all the different galleries. Lots of artists featured in each gallery as well, make sure to walk around and check out all of them.
Eccletic renovated buildings.Nice assortment of hand made goods to buy
Really cool place to go for a stroll and visit a multitude of artists.
Awesome place to see some beautiful and unique art; paintings, jewlery, pottery, etc
Great place to spend an afternoon browsing the various galleries!
This area is small and has a lot of personality! All of the studios here seem to be working studios, which means you can buy handicrafts but should also be respectful of the artists time and space. If I wasnt traveling from out of town I would have loved to meet them, but since it is a working space theyre not open very late into the evening. Its a nice place to roam around before heading to some breweries or getting coffee. Id love to see this area expand more and continue to be a community hub!
I love this place. Plenty of amazing artwork to explore and great places to eat and grab a drink. Always an adventure and a great place to take pictures!
Peaceful roads. Very Peaceful people.!
Super cool graffiti art that stretches along the river. Must visit in Asheville!
This is always one of our favorite locations to visit when in Asheville.
The riverwalk was the best. Will worth the time.
I loved being able to walk into the galleries and talk to the artists.
If you are visiting Asheville, you have to go to the River Arts District!!! It was definitely a highlight for us on our trip. So many amazing local artists and plenty to see
Beautiful place and riverside walk and a perfect place to explore outdoor in downtown Asheville.
Helping pick up trash along the riverIf anybody wants to help we will be back cleaning the river banks daily 5pm to 7pm.. also if anybody know what we can do with all the bags of trash let us know
If you love art you can easily make a whole day out of it.
Colorful and unrefined. Many, many shops and galleries to visit. Arts and crafts of all sorts. Artists and artisans available to talk to about their art. Friendly, laid back atmosphere. A number of restaurants to enjoy throughout the district. Come prepared to walk and explore.
Lots of fun things to look at, and friendly folks
The city is doing a bunch of work at on the river arts district. It looks beautiful. Plenty of parking and picnic tables near the river to enjoy. Lacks restrooms and drinking fountains, but Ive always had a pleasant experience.
A great little walking 4-5 block tour of different studios where the resident artists were actually working on a Saturday afternoon and more than happy to explain and show how they made their art.
I lived on the riverbank in the bushes while I was there. This is not a tent friendly place but could easily make room for people to camp
Post-industrial turned arts district. Come for the art. Stay for the food.
