Great venue! They host Caps practice and numerous other ice related sports like synchronized, figure, and recreational skating. Parking is reasonable in the garage at just a buck for 3 hours. As of this post theres construction taking place in the complex but doesnt negatively impede the experience. Should be even better when completed.

Here Im sitting outside while my son plays his hockey game in there. Only one parent per child allowed even though there is plenty of space for social distancing. This is supposed to be responsible management? Never had the chance to attend any of my boys games, and now that Im here finally, I cant get in.

My son and I both skate at Med Star Caps Iceplex as part of the figure skating program. The rink takes significant precautions both on occupancy and cleaning protocols to keep skaters and staff safe. In this time of the pandemic, masks are also mandatory on the figure skating rink and in the facility overall. Hours for figure skating are somewhat reduced most Fall/Winters due to the Caps need for the ice, but if early mornings work for you, there is generally ice time to reserve. Reservations are made via the OpenSports or Dash apps. Classes and individual lessons are available. My son completed the Basic skating lesson series here and now does Sky High for more advanced figure skaters. He also participated in some of the Summer figure skating camps, which are offered for various ability level skaters. He has really enjoyed his skating journey so far and this is largely due to the wonderful coaches (Mary Clamp and Connor Tasker, to name two) and fellow skaters on the ice with him. This is our go-to rink in the area. Great people and well maintained facility.

Aside from the 8 stories of winding parking garage - there is much to like at Kettler. Skate rentals, food concession and of course, the Stanley Cup Champions home practice ice. Come for a relaxing skate session or to see the Caps practice. Convenient to Metro and parking is a bargain!

Two rinks, for hockey on Friday nights. The Arlington Rink is better for spectators as you can sit in box-like seats and watch the game. Parking is a buck for three hours! Pay before you leave or use a credit card at check out booth.

Overall, it was good to time to hang out with family here. this place is clean and staff are nice. I would really come here more often if they have more free sessions to public. Its really hard to find the perfect time to visit.

I love this place just like I love the caps. Only thing I can ever complain about is when they close the team store before closing hours, sometimes 30 minutes prior to closing. I swung by yesterday 12/23 since their Instagram said it was open until 8 and so did their door, team store was closed at 7:30PM. That was disappointing but it is what it is. GO CAPS

My kids took a skating class here and it seemed to be done pretty well. Clean and nice and plenty of hang out space if you arent there to skate. The only gripe I have is that the equipment shop is very expensive compared to other area options and, naturally, online options. I needed a Jr. helmet for two kids. Cost here was around $95 for the same helmet that is $55 on Amazon. I like to support local business, but I wont pay nearly $80+ extra for two kids helmets.

I would come here more often if they had longer public sessions and added back the adult time. You’re lucky if you even get an hour to skate. What a rip-off. Never mind that the ice gets marked up quickly and there isn’t enough time to Zamboni during such a short session.

One of the better facilities in the DC area to play hockey. The locker rooms are large and clean for a public rink. Nice pro shop, with helpful and knowable staff. The classes offered are for kids and adults in both figure and hockey skating. The learn to play hockey for adults is fun but hard to get Into.

I always forget that we have a local ice rink until I dont and then I enjoy a few hours of skating on a well maintained rink. There are usual some very experienced or working-on-becoming-very-experienced kids around and its fun to watch them as you skate, but if youre new to skating, it might be better to start with lessons rather than jumping immediately into the free skate.

My review is based on the public skating. The facility is clean and well maintained. However, the skate guards are not very friendly or helpful. They mostly skate around ignoring everyone else. As an obvious beginner, I would have appreciated being asked if I needed any help, some tips and tricks, or at the very least a greeting. The atmosphere was not very welcoming. I felt like an inconvenience rather than a guest who paid money to be here.

We took a group of 11 (9 girls age 9 - 11, and 2 parents) to the public skating for my daughters birthday and everyone had a great time. The staff was friendly, helpful, and the rink was great. The price was reasonable for an hour of open skating.

This is my local rink right across the street. I play in the mens league and have a great time but thats all down to the team Im on. The league itself is a bit gimpy at times due to poor scheduling (play vs the same team 3 weeks in a row?)Pretty decent prices on the proshop on everything except sticks. Get those online.

Kettler Capitals Iceplex benefits from its central location (easly accessed by D.C., Maryland and Virginia residents), its ample parking (via a mall parking garage), proximity to the Metro (Ballston stop), its two sheets of ice, and its association with the Washington Capitals (it is the Capitals practice facility).Unfortunately thats where the positives of Kettler end.Kettler, in my opinion, has one of the most poorly run adult hockey leagues in the D.C. area. The league manager and adult program coordinator are absent, from a management standpoint. The GM of Kettler isnt any better.Kettler has had issues with items being stolen from locker rooms (which can happen anywhere), however the lack of personnel on hand does not help. While the ice is in pretty good shape, the facilities are poor. Locker rooms are often trashed. Toilets are many times broken (seats removed, wont flush, etc). Many showers either dont have water or the shower heads have been broken off. While some of this comes with being a public use facility (although lockerrooms are generally locked for the general public), these issues go unresolved for many many months. In reviewing Kettler Capitals Iceplex, its important to draw a line between what works and what doesnt. My experience with the front desk staff has always been positive. The ice is generally good. So the day-to-day operations are OK. The management of hockey leagues, especially in my experience in adult hockey, leaves much to be desired. Kettler Capitals iceplex would benefit from a general manager who actually manages. The adult hockey leagues would benefit from greater focus and care from the hockey director. At the end of the day Kettler Capitals Iceplex likely has little motivation to better its ways. There is ample demand in the D.C. area for adult hockey, and while demand is high, Kettler knows the money will come in, and that customer service is optional. My recommendation; before forking over $700 to play a season of adult hockey at Kettler, take a look at other adult leagues in the area. There are many sheets of ice in the area (just not as centrally located). You can find less expensive league with the same level of competition, but far better service. If youre looking for a place for open skating Kettler, while more expensive than other facilities in the area, is a decent option (if for no other reason than Metro access, parking and the mall).

The one star is specifically for the pro shop. Ive tried to get my skates sharpened twice and the gentleman (I use that word very loosely) with the glasses has been rude and told me both times Im too late. Despite the fact that I arrived 20 minutes before close. I even called the second time. Mid as well say the pro shop closes at 10.

A must visit for any Washington Capitals fan you can get right up along the glass and watch as the Caps practice. There is a store on site where you can get discount jerseys and other Caps paraphernalia. If you stick around after the practices, you usually meet one or two players as they are leaving the building.
