Had some alterations done here for a bridesmaid dress in late 2020. She took the dress in and helped me add a fabric overlay to the skirt within about a week! It turned out lovely!

Samal is fantastic - she helped me with my bridal gown and did a wonderful job. I drove an hour to get to the shop and it was 100% worth it. Love you guys!

I had 3 pairs of pants adjusted here. One pair had to be taken in pretty much everywhere, and the other 2 pairs needed hemming and also a reduction in material of the pant leg. All was done very well, the first time around. Very happy with the work!

I will not go anywhere else for alterations. Sylvias is amazing!! They are all so nice and amazing at what they do. They altered my wedding dress, a bridesmaids dress, and two suits for our wedding. They work extremely fast and the results are amazing. Everything fit perfectly.

They were very helpful and realistic with what they could do with my original wedding dress. My dress is at least 8 inches too big so it was going to be a LOT of $to alter. I havent decided if I will or wont yet but they were also helpful in suggesting places I could get a dress off the rack with my wedding being so soon. And alterations take less than 2 weeks so they have a fast turn around. They were very helpful, very nice, and really listened to what I wanted.

Awesome tailor shop. My son had a suit altered with Sylvia. She did a great job within 1 week. I am a seamstress, but do not do alterations. Believe me when I tell you she did an excellent job because I checked out her alterations. Sylvia has a lot of patience to do this type of alteration. Alterations are not an easy task. The suit fit him perfectly after alterations.

When my wedding dress arrived, I’d lost considerable weight and needed extensive alterations: shortening hem (4 layers), taking in >3 dress sizes, adding straps and 7 point bustle. I had a total of three fittings to complete the work and ensure that the dress fit snug and made me feel comfortable and beautiful for my wedding day.Beyond the remarkable skill of Sylvia and her team, everyone l encountered was so kind and welcoming to me each time I visited. For complex sewing and alteration work, I would trust no one else.

I took my wedding dress to be hemmed and bustled, and they did a beautiful job. She made some excellent recommendations, gave me plenty of options, and the results were impeccable. So happy with my dress! The price was high at $15 per button for the bustle, but other than that a totally positive experience.

Ive gone here for bridesmaid dress alterations and hemming for dress pants. The customer service is always great and friendly, costs are reasonable and the results are fabulous! I recommended Sylvias for my coworkers wedding dress and she had nothing but great things to say. I now drive 40 minutes to continue going here, I highly recommend this place for any alterations!

Sylvia and her team did the alterations for my wedding dress. They did a great job! The shop is incredibly busy, so I felt a little rushed at the first two appointments, but things definitely slowed down for the last two. The fit ended up being perfect. I would definitely recommend.

This shop is amazing. Not only did they fit me in last minute after a quick call, but their alterations skills were perfect. I had originally only asked for the length to be altered but they identified spots in the bodice that, when altered, made the dress SO much more comfortable. I got a ton of compliments as to how well the dress fit me. Ill be going back to Sylvias with all of my alterations in the future.

BIG MESS UP! thats what my wife had with her brides maids dress and that is what they fixed. We went here for our personal wedding alterations previously and had a great experience and naturally went back after a bridesmaids dress fiasco. They where able to fix the alterations on short notice, they where super honest on what they could or couldnt do to make sure my wife was looking her best. I would recommend starting here first before you end up here to fix someone elses mistakes.

Sylvias is the absolute best place to go for alterations, I am beyond happy with how my wedding dress turned out. I purchased a sample sale dress and so much work needed to be done for it to fit properly. Sylvia really took her time with me and made every detail on the dress perfect. From taking the dress out and altering it back down to fit to showing me the different style of busseling and what would look the best with my dress. I never felt rushed. I was late for one appointment and they still took there time and didnt rush me out they were extremely flexible with scheduling. Her support staff is also very nice and helpful. Sylvia is a miracle worker. I had major issues getting my wedding dress delivered from the bridal shop, it showed up 3 weeks before my wedding and Sylvia was able to help me. Sylvia and her staff is amazing! After having a terrible experience with another tailor with my wedding dress, I made an appointment for the same day at Sylvias and from the moment I walked in I felt completely at ease. I wanted the top portion of my wedding dress changed, and without saying anything to Sylvia, she knew exactly what would look best on me and made it look better than I could have ever imagined. The dress was entirely made out of lace, and she expertly took off cap sleeves and a lace back and made it a v-neck tank dress in both the back and front while retaining the beautiful lace edges. The dress also needed to be hemmed on the bottom, and she was able to keep the delicate lace details. She did all of this in only one month and was incredibly reasonable for her masterful work. The girls who work with her were super accommodating and knowledgeable and even made sure my veil was steamed and tacked on my bridal belt and sewed it into the zipper on the back of the dress so I wouldnt have to have a bow on the back. I would recommend Sylvias Tailor Shop and already have to several people!

I take all my clothes to Sylvia for tailoring. They will tailor clothes to exact request and do a phenomenal job. She has done multiple sport coats, suits, and even re-did a cashmere overcoat to fit more tailored.highly recommend using Sylvia.

I finally found a professional tailor! She worked on my suit jackets that had been altered by two other “professional” tailors and still looked wrong. It only took her a second to figure out how to fix them, the result: amazing! She is extremely friendly, professional and welcoming. I recommend her 100%!

Sylvia is absolutely amazing. I chose her for my wedding gown alterations after a recommendation from the bridal shop and I am so happy we went with her! Sylvias workmanship is exceptional. My mother and I wanted removable straps made to wear during the ceremony and purchased a yard of the beaded lace on the gown to work with. She created, from the extra material, beautiful straps that did not disappoint. The first set made by another girl at the shop werent quite right, so Sylvia took over and they ended up being perfect. The entire bodice also had to be taken in - it was completely beaded lace so I was anxious that Id be able to tell when they let it out (after being taken in too much) but it also ended up being perfect. Sylvia was also able to alter my mothers gown on same day notice 2 days before the wedding. She truly saved the day!Sylvia and her staff will bend over backward to do it right and make you happy. I have taken several other pieces - dresses, pants and skirts - to her to alter and essentially have a new wardrobe now. Its just icing on top of the cake, how sweet she and her staff are. I have moved out of state, but will save all my alterations to bring home for her to do when I visit - the service, quality and value is worth it!

Make sure to ask what type of buttons they will be putting on. They fix things quickly when you are unhappy. I felt as if my dress changed the neckline. It was fixed within an hour.

I bought my wedding gown from brides by young and they recommended me here. Sylvia is roud person and I had to pay 850 dollars for my Tailoring plus I had to take it to a deferent seamtress to fix it a week before my wedding 😭😭😭😭 stay away from this places I wood not recommend to anyone.

They did a great job on tailoring my shirts. Took off about an inch of fabric. Now my shirts look much more fitted and modern.

I am so sorry to be complaining but I have a major issue with the people at Sylvia Tailor Shop at 1115 S Arlington Heights Rd, Arlington Heights, IL 60005. First I had some dress straps repaired and they did a very very cheap job. It was so bad that I had to have somebody else redo them. I should have learned my lesson but obviously I didnt because I went back this weekend to have to pants brought in 2 inches. Not only did I feel it was expensive at $13 a piece they had the nerve to charge me 4% for using my credit card. I know a small few places charge extra to use a credit card but this busines did not have that posted. No, they waited until they were processing the bill. Please do not consider this place they may do some good work but their customer service is absolutely lousy.

This review is difficult to write because Sylvia is very nice... However, the quality of the service and the communication from the store is enough to prompt a two-star review. Heres how:With my wedding five weeks out and my first wedding dress a disaster, I bought another one. This new dress needed basic wedding dress alterations (taken in at the side, length taken up and a bustle put on) and some beading removed. I made an appointment to come in and two women (neither one Sylvia) worked quickly and efficiently pinning the dress. They could not give me a price for the alterations and told me Sylvia would call herself the next day.Sylvia called five days later with a total price of $385. She wanted me to specifically come in at 2pm the following Tuesday to see the work they had completed. I agreed and made a note of the appointment.Being a wedding gown fitting, my mom came with me to see the progress the following Tuesday. When we arrived, they had no record of the appointment and had not starting working on the dress. If my mom hadnt driven an hour to come with me, this wouldnt have been so terrible, but they didnt apologize and told me to come back the next week after challenging me on why I wanted to remove the beading (Buuuuuttttt, it looks SOOOOO prettttyyyy).Now a week out from leaving for my wedding, I came in for the final appointment, which was really my first appointment seeing their work. The dress was fine, but tighter than was pinned (and I had not gained any weight). Sylvia was working that day and was very warm. She gave me a free garter and added $35 to the bill for the beading removal work that wasnt considered. I paid it and left, relieved to have a dress at all.The dress survived the ceremony. The reception was a different story. What they had decided to do was create a French bustle that included to very thin loops to hold a entire layer of fabric. Seven minutes into dancing, both loops ripped. I ended up actually tying the ripped fabric to another part of the dress after trying to hold it for a little while. It was embarrassing and distracting.Overall, I wouldnt recommend Sylvias for tailoring anything, let alone a very important garment. I wish it would have worked out and I could have written a glowing recommendation, but I wouldnt want someone to overpay for bad work like I did.
