Ive been going for a few months and I love it. The instructors have a wealth of knowledge and will take time to help you understand anything you have trouble with.
My youngest son trains in Taekwondo at Greatland, and is on their competition team, TKD Elite USA. The coaches are wonderful with the kids, and do a great job preparing them for success in competition and in life.
It suits my goals. gma is a fairly simple martial arts gym with some extra equipment for the mma classes, and typical judo mats that get rolled for the corresponding judo class every week. I have yet to meet anybody at this gym that was notably unfriendly to one another. most classes are taught by Trevor martin, a martial arts expert with loads of coaching and competitive experience in Tae Kwan Do, Hapkido, and judo not to mention a world championship fighter title from years ago. the judo class is taught by a less prestigious, but still excellent Jacob Dempsey and occasionally his wife who trained him when they first met some 20 years ago.I gave this gym a five star rating because i would not consider picking up judo anywhere else. Ive been to mountain view judo and anchorage dojo; they are great clubs but are focused more on practice for intermediate and advanced judo players. Learning a form of martial arts can be quite the journey. If you are looking for somebody to help you get started, this will be a fantastic gym to start at.
When the UAA Judo and Jiu Jitsu club needed a place to work out, Greatland offered the UAA students an awesome deal to allow them to train on a limited collage budget. Thank you Greatland!
