We used to come here when it to be a Golds Gym. That feels like so long ago. But I feel like it’s much better now that it’s a VASA. The price is very much adorable. They have a lot more equipment and they’ve even added about 4 or 5 more stair-masters which is one of my favorites. The steam and Sauna rooms are great! The jacuzzi is so relaxing. The pool is great to swim some laps. I personally like this location better than the one in Saratoga for a these 4 things. Hopefully one day they’ll be able to add it.The staff is really friendly. The equipment machines and weights are well maintained. The gym as well as the locker room are also well maintained and very clean.
First visit to this location. Not impressed and in some ways not surprising. First, I understand active renovations and this has nothing to do with that. Accessibility is always the issue and they only care if someone says somethings. Why do motorcyclists think they are above the rules? Why is it ok for them to park in accessible paths? I’d like my vehicle in the shade too so I can I park in the shade on the sidewalk and Vasa will just ignore it because the customer is always right? No! They would tow me in a heartbeat and every time. Without warning. But motorcyclists are above the rules. Thanks again Vasa for showing that persons with disabilities are less important than other clientele. I fought the Orem University club for over a year to finally see improvement, but still not fixed and don’t have the energy. And not a sole at their corporate office cares to make sure rules are enforced universally.Update: dropped a star. Never contacted even though that was promised. Don’t be swayed from the challenges in my review at the promise to contact me. They didn’t.
How disgusting to train in such a dirty gym. Whichever way you look at it, this Vasa has no idea what cleaning is, in an hour that I was in the gym there were more or less between 100 and 150 people and only two people from Vasa. So do a deep clean and hire more staff to keep the gym clean. its disgusting 🤮 🤮 🤮and please, vasa members, lets help and leave everything better than what we found, the person who cut and left your hair. he is the son of his mother. How disgusting that there are people so bad looking to leave our hair in vasa
Restroom and locker room are Very nasty. Walls were never cleaned. The stench worse than an outhouse. The padding in most areas have not been wiped down very disgusting throughout the gym. If only youd spend more time fixing the issues rather than wasting it trying to see who I am or talk about it. Its plain and simple. Start cleaning. Deep cleaning as well.
Deceptive. They advertise one price, but then one learns of sizeable, hidden fees when signing up. When cancelling, one learns of certain catches not previously explained, which increase the cost even more. Dont be fooled by the low advertised price.Crowded. Machines that are out of order seem sometimes stay that way for many weeks, prompting one to have to wait in line for the working machines.
The racquetball courts are gone which is a travesty. This was one of the best things this location had going for it. Now its just a regular gym.Not sure its worth keeping a multi-location membership if theres no unique amenities available here.
What happened?! I came back from vacation and the racquetball courts are gone and the theater room is closed. Hopefully they will lower the fee because they got rid of all the cool things! Now it’s just weights like every other gym. Sad!
Great customer service. Trey was super awesome in helping me with exactly what I needed. Highly recommended!
I love going to the gym but going to this particular vasa is a bit of a struggle. The parking lot is always full and every machine is being used when you go inside. I do like the busy energy there but it gets hard to work out when there’s not enough room for everyone.
Easy to sign up. Love the new app, it keeps track of your visits etc….
They have a lot of equipment and I love the steam room but they are always so crowded. And unfortunately I dont feel comfortable there anymore. A lot of creepy guys.
I was exercising outside but the temperatures got too hot. VASA is well run, low pressure, close to home, air conditioned and extremely busy. Some of the equipment is in need of repair or replacement but I am able to use equipment I want to without waiting. The prices are reasonable. It definitely beats having heat stroke and my cardio exercises have benefited greatly. Highly recommend.
The mens bathroom wreaks of mold & mildew morning, noon, night. They ALWAYS have wet clumps and yuk on the floor. Its better at other locations but not great.Otherwise, everything else is great, especially the employees at the front desk! Employees at other locations can be downright hostile!
Honestly best gym I’ve been too tried all the other ones and it just feels right in this one, rarely need to wait for something.
Brilliant guys, taking out your racquetball courts to make room for a personal training room no one will ever use. After having a lovely fee-filled membership for two years, I think Ill take my business elsewhere.
This Vasa just seems like it keeps going down in quality. Went swimming tonight and the jacuzzi and pool had so much chlorine in it it literally burnt my husband and I’s skin ..Even after taking a shower at home we reek of chlorine! I don’t know who does the pool maintenance but it’s been terrible lately.. really wish they could get a better manager in there. Things are ALWAYS broken, water fountains to machines to the swimsuit dryer.. I really wish they would take more pride at this Vasa ..
Clean gym with friendly staff impressed by the value that comes with their subscriptions
Awesome gym, lot of equipment and the new renovations on the free weights are nice, HOWEVER, this gym is always so crowded (even at the slump times) that its hard to even get a proper workout in. I guess this isnt an inherent problem with the actual gym but it is so busy to the point where if I had other options for places to go I would certainly change gyms.
If you love cancelling your membership 3 different occasions, only to have a debt collector call you 3 months after a grace period(they didn’t try to reach me before that) this is the place for you. I had to go in 3 different times to terminate my account, and even after they told me it was terminated, I have been getting charged. Do not give them your money, you will be taken advantage of.
I love Vasa! It has all the workout equipment that I need. Its always clean and not too overcrowded. The staff is usually really friendly. Sometimes there is a grumpy one but thats normal for anywhere. I would definitely recommend !
Too many machines have been broken or missing parts for years. Older equipment and weights. Never enough space to use dumbbells, and many dumbbell sizes missing. Too many patrons never restack their weights. Cutting back on cleaning, with less wipe dispensaries. One of those gyms that focuses on the higher-paying training services, at the expense of the normal patrons. A very busy gym because of location and little competition. I have gone here for years because of the location.
Do not waste your time on this GYM They are horrible they place is not clean at all and I cancelled my membership multiple times and they still charged my bank account!!! I have tried to call them I stopped in personally horrible experience!! Never going back again!!!
I have been working out at this vasa for over a year. It can be crowded sometimes but it is alright. Worst thing of the gym is its bathroom and shower. It just seems like the employees do not care to clean them at all. Really nasty
Really nice facility. I appreciate that there is usually a free swim lane and there are kick boards and pull-buoys available.
Great gym. Only thing i dont love is how crowded it always is. They would do well to open one up in Highland or Alpine too.
My first day and I was very pleased with the gym, plenty of equipment dont have to wait, the steam room was comfortable, enjoy the pool, in all it was a really good experience staff is friendly
The American Fork location is way too busy. I prefer the Riverton location. It seems a bit cleaner and newer and not as many people.
This gym offers great equipment and tools to get a good workout in, but the machines are always “out of order” and take forever to get fixed. The gym is always way overcrowded and there are things that can be renovated.
Place needs a deep clean with a detailed eye. Many machines are broken or ‘out of order.’ Needs better management, someone who can take deep pride in the quality of the gym. Front staff seems chill, but I never see them on the floor cleaning. Very busy with lots of muscle heads too.
Honestly this gym has been trash since it’s moved over from Gold’s gym.Vasa is the only gym in my area that has what I need unfortunately. They took out the racquetball courts for yet another micro transaction, they’ve already taken out super precious gym space with their “team training” areas. Now they’re taking away that much more space so they can make that much more money off of their members if their monthly passes and their “annual fee” wasn’t milking us enough. It’s over used, equipment breaks and takes weeks to get repaired. They took out all of the good machines and its WAY TOO OVERCROWDED during peak times. I could keep going...
There’s lots of options! I sometime see struggle to know what to do because there’s so much but I’ve started getting a rhythm of my own. I’ve been to two vasa fitnesses and both were very clean and well maintained.
I hate coming to this vasa because it’s not clean and the front desk staff are not welcoming at all. I’ve been coming to this location for 5 months now and i have yet to feel good energy from staff. i was just barely walking out and a staff memberlooked me straight in the eye and then looked away and this is not the first time this has happened here. if there was an eos in the american fork area i would 110% go there over this vasa, but due to a lack of options i’m stuck with it for now. i’ve been to many different locations but the hostility at this one from staff is something i haven’t experienced at the other locations
VASA would not honor a prepaid membership I had from Golds Gym after they purchased the company. I am out a 2 year membership at $23 a month. Feel totally ripped off and corporate is perfectly fine taking my money for nothing in return.
Vasa most certainly has the best bodybuilding culture at the best price, tons of new well maintained equipment with some great customer service. American Fork Vasa is the best
The three locations that I have been to are all excellent. My only complaint is that the American Fork location needs bigger bathrooms.
I like vasa for its equipment. If I were to judge Vasa as a whole, however, it would fail. Customer service is horrible. The bathrooms are always a disaster, and the staff arent very helpful. If there was somewhere else that charged $10 for a pass, I would go there
This is a pretty good sized gym. They have tons of machines and friendly staff. I love that the pool and steam rooms are open again. They still ask that people practice social distancing and mask wearing; however, not everyone does it.
Oh man, am I getting a PUMP out EVERY DAY with my boi MICHAEL WELLS, my trainer, and the plan hes worked up personally for me. Hes got a great meal plan for me as well, not just the same shiz every day.The man knows his stuff. Not only does he get you the workout you need, but hes teaching you along the way, so you can have better knowledge of what youre. Hes watching for and teaching proper form and showing how to really get that extra burnout with each muscle group, and so much more.Weather youre a beginner, trying to get in shape; or a regular, trying to get more knowledge and get that extra further step in your fitness goals, Mike is the man to go to.Every day Im training/working with Mike, I am left drenched and feeling like I really went the full mile with nothing left in the tank, I get real, satisfying workouts with this man.Ive loved this gym for awhile, great people, machines, environment; but now that Im training with Mike, Im getting 10X more gains, full workouts, and knowledgeGreat gym, great trainer, great gains, great time.💪💪💪
Equipment is always trash, and it’s so overcrowded. I would love to go somewhere else, but these guys put all other normal gyms out of business. So frustrating.EDIT: Don’t know my barcode number but I’m worked out at Vasa daily since 2015. And I posted this while inside the gym.
Take my workout here 4-5 times a week. Not sure about the construction, again. Always able to get in a good workout
I love this gym and have been going here for years. Love everything about it. 3 stars though for the single aspect of the men’s bathroom. Never in my life have I been in one that smells that bad. There was one time where I had seen the same spit piece of chew in the same urinal for 3 days straight. Please clean the men’s bathroom guys.
This place is a zoo. So busy, the equipment is somewhat unorganized, a lot of the plates are damaged, and more of the equipment is out of order than should be.That being said, I live close by and I’ll probably keep going. It’s just such a packed gym. But it is huge - and having a sauna and stuff it rad.
The training department here is absolutely fantastic! Ive worked with Dana and Michael, and they were both exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. Once I save a bit I am definitely buying personal training.
They have all the machines and amenities you need
Not nearly enough space in the vasa gyms for the amount of people that go. For example, there are 3 incline bench presses at one location and you have probably 100 people. The gyms are way too small.
There are always a lot of people, morning and evening. There is no way to train according to the planned program, because most of the equipment is used. American Fork needs another such GYM
This review is for the personal training staff and manager at AF. Vasa seems to employ very young and inexperienced boys. They lack any real physical education but try their very best to come across as knowing what they’re doing. Maybe it’s apart of the culture because I got the feeling they’re accustomed to being completely oblivious. You would be better off finding knowledgeable trainers with experience elsewhere.
Many of the gyms features are broken or under ‘repair’ and they don’t seem to be fixing it at all. There is many crowded places in the gym cause other parts are empty due to the ‘repairs’
It can get pretty busy, but that’s because it’s good. They have a lot of equipment that is maintained pretty well. This location has tanning, a pool, and a massage center.
This gym is more crowded than a concentration camp. Everyone is walking around like they haven’t had any carbs in about 2 months, Just ripped... but grumpy. Also, if you choose to play basketball just focus on layups, reason being is the rafters come into play on a free throw attempt and most definitely on a 3 point attempt UNLESS you shoot the ball like every other scrub in this gym it won’t matter either way. Every 5 on 5 game I’ve ever seen at this gym is reminiscent of the special olympics
Good gym overall, clean and accessible
The one star they get is for the clean workout space and good customer service up front. VASA upper management and payments however are absolutely horrific. About four months into my membership, charges failed due to a payment method change. After quickly resolving the issue, corporate failed to give me notice that my payments were still being left unprocessed. In the end I ended up paying hundreds due to late charge fees. I received absolutely no notice about such charges until they were months overdue (the app and website had no information on this).Being a casual user of this gym for six months it was not worth my time, patience, nor money. Also, absolutely no enforcement on mask policy...
Its good. I would like a slightly greater variety of machines.
Completely over crowded during morning times, and something is always broken or under construction.Plan to wait 5-10 minutes for any piece of equipment.
Nice facilities no wait for machines.
Heres what would have earned a 5 star rating and review.......a TRUE month to month option without the gotcha fees of cancelling before 6 months are up and without the laughable rate guarantee fee or any other nonsensical fees. I would have been a member from the very beginning without all of that.
We made a complaint to the front desk about a client keeping a dog or a working/owner in the car for over 1 hour . They did nothing now we know why he is very well known, no wonder he didnt care when I said I was going to call the police . Very bad business. This is the guy very aggressive in Vasa towards me .. I just cant believe the employees up front did not ask him to leave but again we know why. We have video of him trying to run into our car apparently he didnt know that we were taken video . He was trying to blame us that we ran into his car he also called the police on us while we were calling the police on him . So glad they saw the video. Very aggressive man . THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO HMMMM
Great gym with all the stuff you would like in a gym. Very friendly staff and always a clean place. My only small complaint is that it can get so busy its hard to get a good workout in sometimes
Ive been attending this gym for 1.5 years. Its crazy frustrating how so many cable machines are broken and stay that way for well over a month! We pay a yearly maintenance fee too...why if these machines arent repaired quickly!?
Its a nice gym, just on Sundays it can get a bit busy in the afternoon so hopefully maybe one day the hours can get extended a little for that day. Last time I went on Sunday the parking lot was pretty much full so yeah, wasnt able to go in. Besides all that though the gym is good, plenty of different equipment and the staff is friendly.
Do NOT get a membership here. Throughout the pandemic they have done nothing but give me the run around. I put my account on hold, then lockdown happened and they put all accounts on hold. Then 3 months later I was charged with no notice of it resuming.I was told I received an email stating it would resume. I did not. I hunted through my emails looking for it. THEN I was told my account would be frozen and would remain frozen until it is unfrozen. They resumed charging me 3 months later AGAIN! I didnt see it until the 3rd charge. So now I am down 4 months of membership. I spoke to another representative and they insist it is always 3 months. Then why did the first rep imply it would have to be unfrozen to start up again?! They continue to stab me in the back. They charged me illegally 4 months! And this rep said she would freeze my account for 3 months without charging me a freezing fee?! Just stay far away. It may be inexpensive but it is NOT worth it.
Just found out they are closing down the racquetball courts to add more weight machines. So disappointing! We used to play racquetball 2-3x a week!
They made it difficult to cancel and they were very slow in responding to my emails. There was also an added fee for canceling
Wish they had have actual ballet bars for the barre class. Hope this will change in the future!
Vasa has really stepped up they’re game. And with the new changes happening it’s really becoming a quality gym.
Clean professional. some times are busier than others, but its a large gym, with several different machines
*DO NOT GO HERE -- DRIVE 10 EXTRA MINUTES TO NORTH OREM.*This review is NOT about Vasa Fitness as a company, it is about this specific location.I have the $25ish go to any vasa location membership. I usually go to one of the two orem buildings and LOVE THEM. Tonight I was in the area and decided to check out the AF location. I have never been more disappointed or disgusted by a gym experience in my life. Some things get better with time, a gym is not one of them. This building has existed as a gym forever, evolving over time from a golds, to a planet fitness, to a vasa (and who knows how many others). I visited this same location 11 years ago and it was decent -- too bad no one bothered to update it over the years. To be clear, the weights, equipment, and other fitness tools are fine; everything works, some things are new, the racquetball courts are good (I think they got an update since my visit 11 years ago), and the basketball area is nice. As long as you stay exclusively in these areas youll be happy enough and $9 a month is justified. However, if you want to use this location like a GYM, you know, take a shower, use the toilet, or jump in the steam room, be prepared for an assault on all senses which leave you gagging and questioning why you arent getting PAID to be there.Im pretty sure the showers, lockers, and toilets havent been updated since my visit 11 years ago, and they smell like it.The missing tiles in the showers, completely rusted out screw heads, and 85 year old pipes make for a killer combination (literally, Im worried about infection and tetnis).Need a new phone? Check out neighbor lockers and look for broken shelves with quick access to other bags.Want to hot tub and steam room at the same time? Great! Because the steam room barely drains and if you wait long enough you can take a chunky dip in the slowly filling pool on the floor complete with whatever fungus is still growing in the pipes from its golds gym days.Bottom line: the weights and other equipment are fine if thats all you use, but the facilities (showers, bathrooms, etc.) are completely unacceptable for any price and no amount of cleaning will help -- these areas need an update BAD. If you never go past the front rooms, you get what you pay for and its fine, but i would regret paying ANY amount for the horrible state of the back areas. If those are legitimately updated (new tile, new plumbing, etc.) this place is worth paying for. Before that...Drive 10 extra minutes to the brand new north orem location. 16 minutes to the south orem location.Get a membership at your local rec center.Go run outside and shower at home.If you pay for the $25ish membership like I do and can go to any vasa location membership, thats great -- just dont go here.@vasa my barcode # is 131358
I use to like this Vasa fitness years ago! Back before the pre remodeling stage! Everything just seems different! Example I miss the old cardio cinema! It was way bigger and darker like it should be! Then the machines are half broken, and people apparently don’t know what social distances means! Ugh, guess I might have to cancel and go to another gym!
White collar theft from the top -I canceled my membership with VASA because my son got a job with AF rec center. We got a discounted family membership there. So, I walked into VASA and asked their sales rep to cancel my sons membership and mine. He said he couldnt cancel both of our memberships.... ???? He said I had to cancel the other membership myself online. ... ??? Okay. I played along and did that. Months later when I was reconciling my books i found that VASA had continued to withdraw funds out of my account every month. So, I walked into VASA and explained the situation. They confirmed that they had cancelled our memberships. The confirmed that we had not be back since. They confirmed that they had continued to take money out of our account, but they couldnt promise a refund. Is it too inconvenient to be honest???? To make it worse, they continued to withdraw funds out of my account! I had to change my debit card and put a stop payment in my bank to get them to stop! You would think it would end there. It doesnt. They billing department called me and told me I owe THEM money! See if you can figure that out. (because I put a stop payment in my bank. They thought I was supposed to keep paying them!) This company is so screwed up and lacks the integrity adequate to spend the time necessary to fix the problem. Unbelievable. ... simply unbelievable.
No one wears masks. There is no mask enforcing. It’s a freaking germ pit. My husband just got an update that now the sauna and steam rooms are is open. I don’t care if one person at a time will be In there. If every person that goes in isn’t wearing a mask they are all breathing in the same germs. Covid is an airborne virus that lingers in the air.
So. Freaking. Crowded. You’re paying a monthly membership to *maybe* get the opportunity to squeeze a workout in between multiple people. I have shown up several times, walked around the gym to find that all the equipment I need to fit in my workout is taken by others, and walked out, knowing that I don’t have enough time to wait for each piece of equipment to become available. VASA, please, PLEASE, a) open more locations to reduce crowds, and b) PLEASE get rid of equipment that never gets used (or lightly used), and replace with high use equipment (benches, power cages, barbells, dumbbells, etc.)
LOVE LOVE LOVE VASA. The only gym with Red Light Therapy. I am a happy member.
Employees punching each other and I waited 10 mins for them to check me in for tanning
Not enough weights, constantly looking for plates of every size. Treadmills out for repair for days.
Seriously, Scanning people is the most easiest part. There is no reason to make people wait in line when you are helping one customer. You have 2 scanners. Keep the one out so that people can scan themselves rather than waiting for an extra employee to come out, put the scanner out from under the desk. It is just sitting there under the deskWhile all this is happening, few employees are just chit chatting with each other
It is not recommended to wear a mask while exercising. If that bothers you, stay home. I love Vasa. 🤙
I like the classes, the sexy dance class is super fun. But the rest of the gym is lacking, with old machines that are cramped in too tight spaces. Its almost always over crowded, and a good amount of people dont seem to wipe down the machines after they use them. Even the mats have tears in them, they look so old and beat up, and I dont know what it is with this place, but there are so many people who will stare at you creepily.
Some people just like to complain about anything and everything. I agree with Lara Flex. This is a gym, If people not social distancing bothers you, stay home. What do you want, for them to close the gym down?? We dont. Try working out with a face mask on. I can barely breathe with them on just walking through Wal Mart let alone working out with them on. I do however wish they would put in more free weights and cut down on the size of the cardio section, such as treadmills etc.Not all but some. A lot of times the cardio section which is too big to begin with is completely empty and the free weights are too crowded because its too small. The staff there is great,so are the members. The only issue I have with the members(some of them) are them not reracking there weights and some of the members sitting on the same machine, bench press etc. messing around with their cell phones for too long while people are waiting. At least show some consideration for other people who come to workout and not just to listen to music. Theres always room for improvement at any gym including when it comes to simply re racking your own weights. If anybody is too lazy to do that than they have no business going to the gym also if they are hell bent on social distancing then maybe they should just stay home and barricade themselves .-Bret Maverick Rodrigues
I have been going there for years. All good, but they decide to make two huge areas that are only for their trainers and people they train. Majority of the time these areas are empty. What a waste of space !!!! Give the equipment and space back to the members.
Love the sauna and steam room.
**Not Clean**The bathrooms and machines arent well kept.**Hidden Cancelation Fees**They also said that there is no cancelation fee but when I went to cancel my membership they said I need to pay $70+ dollars to pay for a cleaning fee and that I need to pay for an extra month of service to cancel.**Covid**No one wears masks and I have a few friends whos only activity was going to the gym and they got covid so it seems to be a covid friendly environment.
Worst gym in the area. I promise that youll want to find another gym!!
Great selection of weights and stations. Showers are terrible if that matters to you.
Female “manager” from this morning was blatantly disrespectful to my wife. Office staff in general has been improving greatly recently but I couldn’t believe the interaction my wife recounted of the “manager” this morning.
By far the worst VASA. Overly crowded, no one cleans equipment, and the men’s bathroom is smelly, disgusting, and doesn’t appear to have been cleaned in over a week.
This VASA gym has come a long way since it was previously named Golds Gym. The staff if always courteous and kind...saying hellos and good byes and never feels forced. When I have a question once a year...if they do not know the answer, staff finds out and gets back to me right away. The equipment is contemporary and well kept and the gym is always clean. This is money well spent...thanks for offering such a great place to stay in shape!!!
People go to the gym to workout not to have to hear peoples drama like Liz Krebs a few posts down, calling the police on people because of their dog. Thats not the gyms responsibility to make sure people are treating their dog properly. Do people like Liz Krebs even go to the gym to workout or just cause drama? And people saying the gym is too crowded on Sundays and you cant socially distance themselves and people dont wear masks while they are working out. Bla bla bla! You said you reserved the gym? What do you expect,to have the gym to yourself?(carnival carnie) If your so paranoid about Covid 19 and socially distancing yourself then the gym isnt the right place for you. Stay home. Vasa is a good gym. Could it be better? Yes. It does get crowded at certain times but thats how all gyms are. It would be nice if people would rerack their weights though. Thats everybodys responsibility. If your too lazy to re rack your weights then you have no business working out at the gym.All the members at Vasa have been great to me.So have the staff but one problem I have is they make you pay a yearly maitnence fee but alot of times things arent always maintained. The jaccuzzi hasnt been working in a long time but I know thats because of covid 19 but it comes with the membership. If the jaccuzzi isnt open then they should knock off some of the membership fees.Im not worried about it though. Another problem at Vasa even though this isnt the gyms fault but people messing around with their I phones and cell phones while they are hogging up the machines.Do that somewhere else, some people come here to workout, not play on their phones.Vasa is a good gym but theirs always room for improvement at any gym. People who go their and love to call the cops shouldnt be able to have a membership there. Keep the drama somewhere else. Its not the gyms responsibility to enforce leash laws and if your paranoid about the virus, stay home. If you want a uncrowded gym or the gym to yourself then invest in a home gym.
Wanted to go to this gym for a few months before I wrote a review.Pros:-Staff is nice and friendly. Team trainers here arent annoying salesman.-Relatively clean-Stays pretty cool, the last VASA I went to was usually on the warm side-Price of course is unbeatable-Overall good vibe-There isnt a ton of broken equipment like Ive seen at other gyms. Also some of the equipment is higher quality with timers and rep counters which I love.Cons:-As other reviewers have mentioned, its busy. Very busy. This is what happens when you have a great gym at a great price. I can usually adjust my workout and eventually get what I need to done. Ive never seen it so bad that there are lines of people waiting like I saw other reviewers saying, but maybe Im not using the same equipment as them.
UPDATE: removed another star. I tried to cancel my account (and the charge has appeared on my credit card) but my account is still showing as active and the fees still show that they are due in a few days. There is no way to remove my bank information from the site either!!! The way the system is setup they are going to charge me AGAIN and Ive heard getting a refund from these people is impossible, even if the mistake is theirs. Im so frustrated right now.Original review:Shortly after I signed up for the gym membership all of the gyms were closed due to covid-19. My financial situation has changed because of the virus and I went to cancel my membership and am required to pay a “rate guarantee fee” in order to cancel. You are supposed to have 2 months after signing up before this fee is due. During my “second month” of membership all gyms were closed and accounts were supposedly frozen, but this fee is still due. Because I am cancelling before 6 months I am ALSO required to pay a $25 fee (this I understood when signing up and am willing to pay).I tried reaching out to see if there was any flexibility in these payments because I have not received what I was promised as part of the contract yet they still expect me to pay up. I got an obviously copied/pasted response that did not even acknowledge my concerns, let alone address them. So I am expected to pay almost $100 to cancel a gym membership that I was only able to use for a few weeks.Even in the best of times making your customers pay a “rate guarantee fee” (that supposedly applies to future payments) as they are cancelling their membership seems dishonest. During these times it just feels heartless. It’s disheartening when companies say things like “We believe we are truly in this fight together” (direct quote from ABC4 article) to the press when behind the scenes it’s obvious they don’t really believe it. Having personally done free work for clients who have been hit hardest by the virus, I know that a little flexibility and compassion can go a long way.As to the actual facilities, I signed up to go to HIGH Fitness. The actual HIGH classes are great and I’ve loved the instructors. Classes can sometimes get overcrowded, however. I once attended a yoga class and it was the worst I’ve ever been to. I would not go to one of those again.
Kinda crowded sometimes with small classes rooms. The past 2 times I’ve gone I’ve had older men following me around the gym or looking at me so I bring a friend so I’m more comfortable. Good equipment and it works for a pretty good price. Nice steam room and great facility for a quick workout on your own.
Ive never had a problem with this place till when I just went in today the guy behind the counter talked to me like I was a 12 year old that was beneath him and it was so frustrating.
This is a great gym, in terms of quantity and variety of equipment and training options. We have been going here for years and have appreciated the upgrades and remodeling that have helped it keep up with trends in the industry. HOWEVER, I am seriously considering canceling my membership because the place is always SO BUSY I cant really get a workout. Many times I cant even find space on the floor to do some minimal moves. VASA, you need to open another location in the AF/ Highland area!
Love this gym! The trainers and staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The facility is clean and offers a lot. I really enjoy all the trainers and the team workout classes. My personal favorite is the kidcare. The staff there knows my children and helps them feel comfortable and safe so that I can workout. I’ve been so impressed with the care they give my children. It’s not just a daycare where you drop your kids off and they watch a movie the whole time. They teach them, and interact with them. I came in the other day to grab my kids and they were learning about Mexico and got to make a pretend passport and get it stamped before they left!
I like the classes, especially the High Fitness with Metta and Pump with Ricki. They’re great instructors and the room is always super full. Arrive 10 minutes early! Downside to this location: expect 1/3 of the equipment to be down. Seriously. There was a time for nearly a month that an entire row of treadmills were out of order. There are only 8 stair masters that are consistently busy while a dozen treadmills aren’t being used. I wonder why the location doesn’t order more stair masters, especially since they receive so much money from club members.
VASA is clean, large and has pretty much what youd expect from a facility like this. It would have been nice to have someone take 2 minutes to show a first timer around and ask if I have any questions. I also dont know why it costs $50 to lock in my rate, pretty sure a computer can do that for next to nothing.
The gym is nice considering the monthly fee you pay, but they try to nickel and dime you as much as possible. They charged me a $50 fee to lock-in my rate for the year. They also charge a $25+ cancellation fee if you cancel your membership within 6 months and require you to give a one-month notice before you cancel, which basically makes you pay an additional month of gym fees since that details not widely advertised. Their customer service is also pretty terrible. Do not recommend joining unless youre planning on staying with the gym for a long time and dont have alternative options.
