Ive used Wicks a few times for maintenance and repairs, and Ive always been happy with the service. The prices are reasonable for this area, and lower than some around here. An exampe of their great service: yesterday, I bent a mower blade on a stump and took it in (on a Saturday morning). The mechanic was in between jobs, fixed it on the spot, and charged me for barely more than the mower blades. I think theyre excellent.
Took my mower there that wasnt working right, took about 10 days but now working like when I first brought it. Thanks and you pay for what you get. Its not expensive there but if you want it fixed correctly some time you have to pay for the mechanics experience that they offer.
I took my husband’s chain saw to Wick’s for a minor repair & to have several blades sharpened. The gentleman behind the counter told me it might take 10 days but it was done inside of a week. The man even carried it out to my car for me which was super helpful. My husband was happy with the results; his saw came back clean & perfectly tuned.
We have used Wicks for about 30 years. They are in their second location - both of which were older houses on Route 1. We have always found them to be friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They give honest, efficient service, and have always done it right the first time. This time - in 2013 - they said it would take a week or maybe a little longer, but we dropped it off on Saturday, and it was done by the following Thursday. Id call that quick service, since its April, and the beginning of the - Ohmygosh! Time to mow the grass! season. I would recommend Wicks without hesitation.
I am happy with the work Chester of Wicks repair did for me.I bought a used 1986 Snapper 3311 riding mower for $200, with the idea I would need repairs. I had it delivered to Wicks, and asked for an estimate before any work would be done. They have a $150 fee which is applied to repairs for diagnostics. While I was not happy about that charge, I wound up using it to get my mower fixed. They had to rebuilt the top end of the motor and do the valves, and my price for that with some other minor things was under $300, which I felt was fair due to the amount of the work needed. I can say the motor runs great and started easily after Chester worked on it.I brought my mower to them in the middle of busy season (mid June), and I can say they had it fixed and ready within 10 days, which I thought was amazing for this time of yearI am happy, I felt like they were honest and their repair work was very good.David
Brought them a mower in April 2013 to repair the front drive, which had stopped working. Took about a week to repair, and got it back working fine. Less than one season of mowing later, the drive is not working again. Informed that warranty on labor/parts is 30 days only. Not a great warranty. For the price of the repair, I could have purchased a new mower.
Im new to the area and found this place through a google search. This is exactly what I was looking for in a small engine repair place, they are located in an old home just off the main road. The helper there doesnt seem to know much about engines, but is very friendly and welcoming. The older fellow, whom I take is the mechanic, is about as friendly as wasp nest. He always appears to be in a big hurry, and certainly doesnt appear to care to chat with a young buck like me about a chainsaw. I havent picked up my saw yet, but thats my experience so far. Will update once I see how the repair went (carb rebuild in a stihl 026 which had been left sitting for about 2 years with fuel in it).
Not much to look at but the guys here do good work. A bit expensive but good small engine repair service is hard to come by and these guys deliver good service.
Very nice 👌 people
This review is for the benefit of the local community in Mt. Vernon, Woodlawn, Ft. Belvoir and surrounding areas.Ive been dealing with Wicks for the last 20 years. The mechanic is the same one as they keep good people around. They specialize on the sales and service of Stihl machinery and also work on most other brands in the industry. The reason I rate them 5 stars is because they have never sold me anything I didnt need, charge for anything that wasnt done, they warranty their work, and are straight up on the expected time of return. The best thing I can recommend to anyone, is to maintain your machines during the off season and avoid the rush during the on season. Everybody and their brother wants their mower running first thing in the Spring. So have your machine running before then and you wont have to worry about any wait. They are a small privately owned shop. They treat their customers better than a number. Ive saved money there and spent more when needed. But I can assure you that Ive never been disappointed.
Good service, decent pricing. I wish they had longer hours, say from 7 to 6.
Very professional.
