I chose Gearstar for one reason. I wanted to keep my current TH350 transmission but needed the confidence that it would stay together when I put the pedal to the floor (sitting behind a Pontiac 467, 618HP/619TRQ). I now have that confidence with my newly installed TH350 level 4 build thanks to Zack and his team.I also chose to make the 3 hour drive to drop off my transmission and to meet the Gearstar team. I have been an auto/diesel tech for almost 20 years, but I hate rebuilding automatic transmissions im more of an engine guy, but getting a rebuilt transmission is a huge gamble, or so I thought... I acquired a 1932 Ford Roadster Street Rod with a GearStar, 4L85E already installed. The car was built at Lobecks V8 Shop and completed in 2011. It is 620 hp and 650 ft lbs of torque. I had question about the trans adjustment/operation and have called GearStar tech several times. They treated me as if I had JUST purchased the trans and were patient with this hobbyist. Even after all that time they remembered the car AND trans and I talked to the builder. They are professional, courteous and my transmission IS BAD ASS! EXCELLENT. I met the owner (Zach) in York Pa this summer and was completely impressed with him and their business model. Just call them and youll be impressed. They will do whats best for you not for them. I decided to do an LS swap in my 67 Impala Sport Coupe and wanted a bulletproof trans as plans called for a supercharger in the future. Based on a recommendation from a friend, I called Zack at Gearstar and we decided a 4L80e was the right choice. Zack took the time to get all the information about the car and how I wanted the trans to shift. Gearstar also had a solution that allowed me to keep the existing mechanical speedo without having to use a goofy converter; they have a custom output shaft and tailhousing that allow the drive cable to be screwed directly to the transmission--cool. They had the trans ready earlier than promised and everything I needed was in the crate. They helped me find the correct flexplate and spacer needed for an LS3 and 4L80e and answered some questions about banjo fittings for the cooler lines. They were quick to fix a machining problem with the trans mount pad that the vendor of the custom tailshaft missed with a batch of these housings. The trans works perfectly behind the 525hp LS3 crate engine and the speedo readout is right on the money out of the box!Now I have a 4L60e on order for my 72 Nova and 383 combo. Gearstar recommended using Sonnaxs new 1st/2nd gear ratios to avoid that super-low first gear and big gap between 1st and 2nd GM put into these transmissions--dont need that with a stump-puller engine. Cant wait to get that on the road this spring! I highly recommend Gearstar for any transmission need.

I have two of Gearstar Performance Ford AOD transmissions. The first one to be installed is in my 66 Fairlane with a 600 horsepower 427 small block, The transmission shifts perfectly and is working just as it should. Gearstar has been very helpful with all our questions concerning the installation and operation. I wish all customer service were as involved and willing to work with their customers as these folks are. I do not hesitate to recommend this company and its products to anyone wanting to upgrade their vehicles transmission.

Here’s my rig, 07 Hummer H2. Anyone that knows Hummers knows they are a heavy truck. She ate two transmissions (4L65E)from places I won’t name. Yes I play hard and wanted my rig to perform without letting me down. Well after the last transmission I started researching transmission shops and ran across Gearstar (Zach)... I liked the reviews he has and was thinking that because of all the 5 stars this place has... it’s got to be burying the bad reviews... after weeks of digging I finally found a couple (2). Now that being found, I figured I’d call and see what type of service you get over the phone. Well... Excellent... I discussed with Zach the reviews to see how he reacted and to be honest.... 100% professional and knew those reviews and then pointed me to where he had taken care of them. Long story short we started talking about him building me a 4L65E IV until he saw my Rig... then he refused to build it... I know what you’re thinking, why are you writing an Outstanding Review if he refused to build what you wanted? The answer is simple... Zach explained that the weight of my Rig is too much for the 4L65E and it didn’t matter what he did, the transmission would still fail and recommend the 4L80E III and told me that he could build it for around the same price so eventually I agreed because Zach was the first person to refuse money in order to keep his perfect reputation (unheard of in this world now-a-days). Here’s where it gets interesting... Zach was patient with my bombardment of questions throughout the build and literally went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. When I got the transmission, to my surprise it was listed as a stage IV on the paperwork and crate... outstanding surprise... thank you. This next part is probably going to cost me the warranty on the transmission but it is definitely worth saying. I finished the 4L65E to 4L80E conversion (anyone that’s done it can feel my pain... lol) anyways I wanted to put his build to the test... first thing was to put it in the exact same situations that broke my other two transmissions (hard hill climbs, rock crawling, truck pulls, deep water and a 4’ Mud Hole) the transmission held up better than expected with Zero Issues... as a matter of fact... anyone that has broken all 4 tires loose with 40” Toyos on pavement during a pull can understand the wicked sound it makes and having the front lift off the ground should tell you the transmission build is absolutely SOLID. Ive been running a Gearstar Performance Level IV C6 automatic transmission behind my 600+hp stroker 460 Ford in my Canadian Hot Rods Magazine 1957 Ford 2-door Ford Country wagon gasser since 2010. Never had a problem. With the Gearstar 10 custom stall Billet Racing converter the car hits hard, has excellent 60-foot times and never misses a shift. Its a 10.80/124mph car and its never let me down. Love it and Im about to purchase from them again for a street use (sometimes strip maybe) 4R70W to bolt behind a stroker 390FE in a 1962 Ford Ranch wagon project car. Id recommend Zack and his crew to anybody for the best street/strip, strip only transmissions out there.

Zach and his crew were extremely helpful and patient with us on our build. They answered many many questions without hesitation. We were converting from a 5 Speed to an automatic 4L80E level 4 in our 69 Roadrunner Hellcat swap. Transmission came in earlier than expected. We had a few communication issues at first within our car and the transmission controller. They helped us get everything sorted out after transmission was sent back to be checked and cleaned. It was returned to us within a week of sending it back to them. They covered everything!!!! Shipping and repairs the whole 9 yards. I would even say they took it 10. Gearstar built a 700R4 (with the 60 degree V6 GM bell housing) for my 3/4 scale 32 Ford roadster 5 years ago. They knew the trans I wanted and it was built to handle 450 HP (more than enough to handle the 3.2L blown V6 @ 220 HP). The car weighs 1850#s and has 4:10 gears in the rear end. Needless to say, when you step on it, it hauls! Trans shifts firmly either manually or on its own. It now has over 4500 miles on it, no leaks and still performs as if it was just built. Great trans!

The original transmission in my Hot Rod was a 700R4. For some reason we had lots of trouble with the original transmission. I had seen the Gear Star Transmissions Ad in Street Rodder Magazine. I began to research this company on the internet as well a thoroughly checking out their website.I called and spoke with Zack Farah, the owner and explained to him the trouble that Id had with my 700R4. He took time and asked me about the car. Engine HP, differential gear ratio, tire size, type of driving I did, etc. I asked lots of questions and he patiently answered them. After a fairly detailed conversation with Zack explaining the pros and cons of a 700R4 vs the 4L60E transmissions I decided on the 4L60E with a CompuShift Controller. It’s incredible the amount of abuse that the level 4 - 4L80e can handle. After countless launches and many sets of tires burned to the ground, this thing is still shifting as firm as they day we installed it. I had expected it to get a little soft by now with all of the heat generated by long standing burnouts with almost 700 hp....but it continues to take it day in and day out. I have purchased three Gearstar transmissions (1) 4L60 and (2) 4L85s.Running superchargers on the motors in front of them, generating over 500 HP.These transmissions are all that and a bag of chips.I can not speak highly enough about the knowledge and quality of their expertise and efforts.We run these transmissions through tough assignments and other than our own missteps(over revving due to a blocked open throttle body gate) the Gearstar transmissions have out performed our wildest hopes.EZ

We just finished having a new 700R4 level 4 installed in our ’32 Ford Coupe from Gearstar and we could not be happier. The car has a 480 HP 383 engine from Blue Print Engines in it and this transmission is absolutely perfect with it. The car idles nicely in drive when stopped at a light and as soon as you push the gas peddle the car moves and the transmission has firm, snappy shifts. We are truly pleased with the quality and performance of the transmission as well as the service that we received from Zack and the rest of the team at Gearstar. Zack spent a lot of time on the phone with us asking detailed questions and the transmission turned out to be a perfect fit. We highly recommend Gearstar - it is a truly fantastic company. Had these guys build us a C4 transmission with Pro trans break for our 1987 Mustang that we drag race. Have had the transmission for a year and a half almost two years. Trans is strong as the day we got it. Great company and customer service. If you need a trans for racing their your guys.

Had Zack and the guys build us a 4r70w for a coyote swap Ranger we built. He went the extra mile for us and dyno tested our transmission to make sure it shifted through all the gears perfectly. He does this for ALL his customers! Every trans that comes out of their shop is tested the equivalent of 100 miles. That speaks for itself. All they need to know are a couple specific questions answered about the build and they get to work. He also helped me get a controller for the electronics in the trans so it would shift right. Hands down I would call them for any transmission I need built. They do so much more than what you get from other companies. If I could rate them higher, I would give them a 10!!!! They have been in business almost 20 years and have a less than 1% return rate. If your thinking about using GearStar, give them a call, you won’t be disappointed!

I just wanted to let everyone know that Gearstar has some of the best people in the business and they build great products. We being in the industry and having the need for their products, we have used numerous transmissions in all kinds of hot rods, 50s and 60s cars and especially in some of the Shadow Rods 1927s we build too.We installed one into a 1950 Ford behind a Flathead engine we are working on and did a 5000 mile plus trip to California and back with no issues or concerns. The car now has over 20,000 on it with this set up and still performing flawlessly.Take it from someone who drove that 1950 on that trip and has put many of the additional miles on it, they work great.We also installed a 700 R4 behind a stock 1941 Cadillac Flathead in a 1941 Cadillac 60 Series we use to pick people up at the airport in when we have guests visiting and it too has been great. Makes cruising down the freeway much better with the overdrive and now AC too.So for anyone needing to know of great products by great people, you can get everything you may need right here!!!!!

I originally had gone with a local transmission builder in which had failed immediately and they had given me the run around until i eventually gave up and moved on. I turned to Gearstar for a badass 4L70e level 3 transmission. Everything worked as it should have until it started slipping, I immediately called Zach and without hesitation he sent me a return bill of lading. Upon a video inspection, a copy was provided to me, the 2-4 band broke. They quickly replaced all necessary parts to return the transmission to the original state as I first purchased it. Zach and his crew are very professional and knowledgeable. I cant thank them enough for standing behind their product. I would definitely choose them again on a future build and recommend them to others.

The transmission on my Chrysler Mini was acting up coming out of gear and slipping, I took my Van to a local shop where I was told I needed a new transmission, I started looking for reputable shop to do the work, GearStar came highly recommend by my Dad, I called them, they gave me a price to rebuild my transmission & Converter, I made an appointment and dropped my Van off, couple hours later I received a call from Zack telling me that he had some great news for me, I do not need my transmission rebuilt, the problem I have is a vacuum line leak which is causing the erratic behavior in the transmission, that replacing the line is inexpensive, I could not believe what I was hearing Gearstar could have easily rebuilt my transmission replaced my Vacuum line and charged me for it. Gearstar is a very honest & professional shop I highly recommend them!

Purchased a Level 4 200-4R for my 1984 Monte SS after discussing the application with Zack. Had an issue with torque converter to flex-plate clearance. Gearstar has a hard-earned reputation for building the best crate transmissions for street / performance aftermarket applications. I purchased a Level II 700R4 for my 34 Ford and I agree that Gearstar builds the best. The trans works great, shifts great and I love having the overdrive and lock-up torque converter on the highway. Good product support, even years after my original purchase (nothing wrong with the trans, I just needed some information for my build records).

I want to take a minute to thank Zach and the guys at Gearstar, we dropped my youngest sons car to Gearstar yesterday morning at the recommendation of my boss after having another transmission shop tell me it needed a transmission rebuild for $2200. I received a call from Zach 2 hours after they had my car he informed me the transmission rebuild was not needed. They changed the oil on the transmission and made some adjustments, we picked up the car and the transmission is working great, my total for my bill was $122.00. I called to inquire about a 350-TH to 200-R4 swap and was met with a number of questions about my car, its engine and use. The tech was patient, diligent and provided details about what I could expect from the gearing and overdrive of the 200 as well as what to expect during the swap. When I get ready to make the swap, Ill be calling Gearstar for a transmission.

I sent my 32 Ford coupe to Gearstar 1st week of June to replace my 350 Transmission with a 700-R4. My car has a chevy small block making 450 HP, Gearstar recommend their level 3 700-R4, they also recommended upgrading the 3.06 rear gear to a 3.73, they installed a nice cooler in front of radiator, they had to move the radiator back 1 inch to make room for the cooler, These guys are Pros they did a great job car looks perfect, I couldnt be happier with the work and service, the difference in performance is simply amazing, the car feels like it gained 30 HP, acceleration is much improved and I can cruise on the highway 75 mph at 2600 RPM, they are a reasonable shop, and the work was flawless I feel very good about the work they did, the work on my car was completed in 2 weeks as promised, I highly recommend them.I used passport transport for shipping the car to Ohio & back Im very happy with the service.
